I cannot express how much worse this is than Mother of Runes. The thing with MoR is that she makes it impossible to cast your targeted removal, because she can just neutralize it. This doesn't shut off removal as you can target her.
I guarantee you once any hype has settled down, this will not be making it into any serious constructed decks in any format. Save your pennies on any hype girls and boys.
Is it just me, or is anybody else getting a feeling of familiar?
So I firmly believe there is room for a card that is less powerful than MoR, but good enough to be played. Yes, it doesn't blank every bit of targeted removal your opponent has for the whole game, but it's a one-drop, it doesn't need to be that powerful to see play. The fact that your opponent has to spend their first removal spell on your one-drop no matter what else you have in play is definitely useful.
Like the card a lot, it's probably more fair than Mom as well. The art is fine, but I don't see "Kor" over here. Would have preferred a actual human model, perhaps a cosplayer here. Ah well, card is fine.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
She has protection against Morophon, The Boundless, and as we get more and more sets, WotC is giving us more and more colorless non-artifact creatures other than Eldrazi, quite a few token creatures, and this protects against colorless artifacts and colorless artifact creatures, not to mention this conveys protection against almost every land capable of inflicting damage one way or another, yeah this is going to only get better as the years go by.
Mother of Runes is a pain to get rid off, this one is easily dealt with. But even if it dies to removal, i still think this is good and could see play in some decks. (just not 4 off) In equipment decks i could see she being great.
Redundancy to Mother of Runes in EDH is always welcome. I suppose.
Too bad the art looks like a badly photoshopped real life picture (might be just the low-res attachment, tho), I hate it when card arts look like that.
anyone else feeling that the name is kind of not giving enough respect to mother of runes ? why "giver" ? i think aunt, dought, sister, ... even grandmother of runes would have given much more tribute to mother of runes. i mean they basically copy so many cards and change them by a tiny bit, so i think i they should given more credit to good old mother ^^
\My main problem with the art is that she doesn't look a Kor at all. Pale skin is not enough. She just look a random girl with some blue lights over the face.
We can't see her ears and women Kor don't have beard barbels. So I don't think she looks any less Kor than Kor Spiritdancer or Devout Lightcaster.
Maybe is just the art style, but not even the eyes (which are usually very sharped) looks Kor at all.
@Legend & @AtraxianShade: wtf? Dude, the fact that it looks like a photoshopped photograph should tell you how great the art is. It’s almost photorealistic, and yet it’s hand-painted. Leave the bath salts alone!
I can’t understand the people bashing the art. I understand the shade thrown because she doesn’t look Kor, but damn, that is a sweet piece of art.

I agree mostly, in fact that's what I thought at first, but I think the card deserves a little more credit. A lot of modern decks rely on creatures to win and this has a huge impact on combat. Otherwise there are still a few decks that would play a flag bearer for 1 mana. In rare cases you can do a mom impression with two of these out. It's definitely not mom though. Mom would have been pretty busted. I predict this will see fringe play.

This artwork is awful... after things I've seen Seb do, it kind of baffles me that people would be doting on it.
Card is playable, but not especially good.

yeah this is basically a 1 use lightning rod for your opponents removal, was it really insane to get mother or atleast made this human for the relevant tribe? Is humans so broken in modern? Isnt it one of the last fair decks?
This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.
I didn't think I was dyslexic, but, somehow, every time I read this card's name as I'm scrolling through the Rumor Mill, there's a brief moment where I see "River of Gunes" instead.
And since "gunes" would obviously be pronounced like "goons", and because my brain is weird, I now have a mental image of the kids from the background of Mother of Goons standing, waist deep, in a river.
Turns out McKinnon used his sister as a model for this card because he wanted to "put her in the game". I knew something was off about this, it's not his usual style.

The technique is great, but the whole feel of the art and the end result rubs me the wrong way.
You might be the best cook in the world, but I'll dislike a dish made with pumpkins and aubergines no matter how well it is cooked, this art is a that dish, used as a dessert.

...i don't agree. its a better mom. neat. is that good enough for modern? maybe. is it a new edh staple? yeah sure i guess. is it busted as ****? no.
