Champion of Justice can get a ton of loyalty counters, and he at least gets indestructible. Although I guess in a format with Path to Exile, that doesn't matter. Champion of Justice is objectively the most boring Gideon, though.
Note that I didn't call the original Gideon bad, I just think the lack of indestructible makes him more vulnerable than his later cards.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Gideon is definitely on Theros at the moment that he actually perishes.
So yeah, I'm calling it. Ajani and company go to Theros to rescue Elspeth and Gideon from the Underworld. The Search for Gideon is a bit of an one-the-nose reference, but it doesn't sound like a bad set title (to me). Surrounding factors I'm less sure about but make sense to me:
1.) Phyrexia corrupts Theros. The contrast is so extreme that the compleated Therosi would be satisfyingly unnerving. Like how it's eerier to see a possessed child's doll than to see a possessed suit of armor, the insidiousness is more apparent the less threatening the thing was to begin with. Which leads to...
2.) Erebos fights Elesh Norn. Other than Xenagos and Elspeth, the gods haven't fought anything that could defeat even one of them. Elesh Norn's Phyrexia actually has the power to kill all of the Gods. So, desperate times call for desperate measures, and maybe Erebos either willingly lets the dead return to fight alongside the rest of Theros to stop the compleation, or maybe he gets killed (expunged? "killed" seems off considering the blurry line between dead and alive here) and then all the denizens of the Underworld are free to leave.
3.) Xenagos gets out too and becomes another looming multiverse threat. That way even if there is a victory and Theros is saved, there could still be enough fallout where the story continues to have a struggle while still feeling like the Theros-Phyrexia conflict has concluded.
I like how you started and it's interesting.
Gideon is back and fully revive by Erebos, but as legendary human creature without his spark and now carries Godsend.
Which is granted to him by Erebos to fight Elesh Norm, Unknowingly to Erebos that Elspeth managed to bind herself to the legendary sword, So knowing the fate of Gideon would likely be like hers. She intervene quickly by planeswalking Gideon away to alara as Theros plane collapse along with their Gods and was fully destroyed by the phyrexian.
The destruction of Theros was quick because they weren't prepared with such modern advancement that phyrexian had.
So they sets on a journey to retrieve his spark in order to stand and fight better against phyrexian that destroyed their planes but without planeswalking abilities he needs to tag along with other planeswalkers for help.
They could seek the help of Teferi and Karn. To gather a powerful weapon against the phyrexians and restore Gideon's spark.
There are a couple of awkward story elements to Kytheon being in the Therosian Elysium. First, how did he get to Theros after dying in his sacrifice on Ravnica? But more awkwardly still, if only those who die peacefully and with completeness about their existence go to Elysium rather than Erebos's underworld... what are the rest of his irregulars doing there?
So that said, I choose to see Heartwarming Redemption more as art than science. Gideon/Kytheon ain't coming back.
We had got demons, angels, zombies, spirits, alternate dimention, time travel and redundant cliche of villains trap in a spiritual realm or of them being rebirth to a fully restored self.
We got Sharkan fully changing his timeline lol
They might be "human" as a creature type but they are "planeswalkers" which are probably a higher being than spirits, angels, dragons or even gods of their planes. Gideon is no Gerrard Capashen.
Why are some people start bringing science and question afterlife this ain't space voyager fiction, cyberpunk or any sci-fi related stuff.
To end the debate if afterlife exist in planes. Here is your answer.
Venser and Radha assured her that they would stand by her and help her to face her nemesis. Jeska and the two planeswalkers teleported into the heart of the rift. Here, Jeska faced an image of Karona, the embodiment of the rift. Drawing power from the willing friends, she charged the image of the goddess and shattered it. She spread her planeswalker essence over the rift and further, over all the rifts and fissures of the multiverse connected to it. In one huge discharge of her power, she closed them all, allowing the Great Mending to begin.
Immediately after her sacrifice, Jeska appeared in a white void, where she was welcomed by her beloved long dead brother Kamahl. With the two siblings finally reunited, Jeska's mind happily welcomed the oblivion.
Prety sure that by the time Gideon and Liliana were fighting bolas, Chandra/Lazav had alread destroyed/shut down the immortal Sun. But better to wait the book be oficially out.

so the dimir helped shut down the immortal sun. Is that the reason they infiltrate Bolas Citadel?
The cell padding for the rules text box could have been larger. Not enough room between text and border!
Worship, Blackblade Reforged, Martyr's Bond and RIP are great choices with fitting and kickass art. The rest of the cards feel a bit more generic to me as they're all "Gideon with his weapon at the time in an action pose", but they're fine as well.

Champion of Justice only gets a ton of counters if your opponent has a ton of creatures to chump block him for days and/or a ton of creatures to attack and kill him. Gids 1.0 at least has two other things he can do, if a beefy dude with no evasion isn't helpful. Sure, CoJ can threaten an ult, making your opponent need to attack him, but Gids 1.0 can just take the choice away from them entirely with his +2. A lot "Top 10 Worst Planeswalkers" lists include Champion of Justice, and for good reason.

There are decks where you actually play the Champion of Justice? Because for me it's truly unplayable and with an ugly design. At least the original can actively remove threats and I play him with success in my Atraxa EDH deck since it protect me or my other PW for at least a turn (and it's simply great if I have the general out).
That is a quite wonderful montage. Very nicely done Manite
Thank you. I started with a homage to HoD's Last cycle inspired by Worship and Gideon's Sacrifice, and it sorta ballooned into a full-on montage summarizing Gideon's life. Kind of a memorial, you know?

Weird that they picked the objectively worst Gideon for the spellbook. I guess because it's his original card, with his full (post-Bant) name? Is Signature Spellbook: Nissa going to be Elf-tribal?
You've clearly never come across the infamous Boros time Gideon. Now that....that is something we all try to forget.
