Weird that they picked the objectively worst Gideon for the spellbook. I guess because it's his original card, with his full (post-Bant) name? Is Signature Spellbook: Nissa going to be Elf-tribal?
I guess it depends on what format you are talking about but Gideon Jura has won me a bunch of games in Modern in Esper Control. The 1-of in the deck has been really good and I can't think of any other version of Gideon that would fit in that slot and do what he does.
But, I do agree that they most likely went with the original card (or because it is the full name) just like they did for Jace.
Will definitely pick this up if I can get it for around 20 bucks. If it gets marked up too much by greedy sellers I may pass.

This is what a signature spell book should be like; it actually feels like Gideon’s character, his life, his belief. Jace’s was just him attempted to sound badass, without his spirit, hardship, and connection with people.

Nah, its going to be all land animation, all the time. Including Verdant Touch from Stronghold (It's not on the reserved list).

Oh wow, that RKF Blackblade Reforged is fantastic. I think it's a must have for my big-dumb beater Dakkon Blackblade EDH deck. So much greatness in that.

I mean something new with built-in indestructible and another ability inspired from his previous planeswalker incarnation.
If wizards sended hin to Theros then maybe it could be possible as a human soldier (would be nice as a eidolon) if his spirit is in Ravnica then maybe we could see a spirit Kytheon-Gideon. Would actually like to see his character again in the future as a spirit creature helping the living

i mean it kinda makes sense. jace hasnt had a whole lot of character development despite being featured so much. sure he has had his experiences with betrayals, hardships, and even triumphs; but he hasnt changed much because of it. still the stoic super prodigy mind mage obsessively curious with a genius intellect.
i suspect his general lack of flaws and adherence to badassery is why people hate on him so much.

Wizards no longer publishes MSRP for their products, although the MSRP for the Jace version was $19.99. I see this costing about the same.

The original Gideon actually sees a fair amount of play in Modern as a 1- or 2-of in W/U and Esper Control decks.

He's an old school Magic guy, so if you were not there in Ice Age / Mirage years, you missed most of his contribution.
Known cards are original Pillage & Price of Progress, Muscle Sliver, Sedge Sliver, and obviously Dakkon Blackblade. It's definitely impossible to get his style confused with someone else's.
I have a sweet spot for Nebuchadnezzar and Recall.
The signature spell book concept is one I really like !
