"The hero with the magic sword slays the dragon? Not this time." - Nicol Bolas
Prison Realm2W
Enchantment (U)
When ~ ETB, exile target creature or planeswalker until ~ leaves the battlefield.
When ~ ETB, scry 1.
After millenia to craft victory. Bolas has eternity to contemplate defeat.
Is this finally a death in the gatewatch? Of course, with Return to Theros on the horizon, it's not unlikely they will get Elspeth back, you know, to replace Deadeon.
Also, I'm glad Bolas doesn't die. They'd be stupid to kill such a great villain off...even if they made him a terrible villain by virtue of terrible writing.
Yup, this is Gideon literally dying for nothing after giving up his indestructibility because Bolas also made sure the Blackblade won't hurt him. At least in this, he was prepared.

It is a classic villain trope though, give the heroes false hope, let them waste time and resources on a plan that utilizes said hope, then gloat when their plan doesn't work.
As for the cards themselves, both a fairly solid removal spells for their costs. I like.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Funny how a couple days ago mods in the forums were idiotically censoring story leaks from the novel.
Whoever read those posts before the purge knew this was going to happen.
Whelp, about 50% of the people interested in the lore are gonna be disappointed. Most people have already theorized that Bolas is gonna be trapped in the Meditation Realm by Ugin. Me personally, I'm not upset. Bolas isn't as "mustache twirling" a villain some fans try to make him out to be. For me, he represents an evil that will never truly die. He is the embodiment of evil in the multi-verse, and killing him would be anti-climatic. As for the cards, they're pretty dope! I like the artwork Tyrant's Scorn. There's something about seeing Magic's "Superman" getting smacked down and around by evil again (Amonkhet anyone?). Prison Realm is a little "meh" but the scry 1 could come in handy.
On one hand, I like that the simple, foreshadowed plan of using the Blackblade doesn't work and Bolas had the foresight to guard against it. On the other hand, the plan that actually does lead to Bolas's downfall make him look even more idiotic.
The thing about killing Bolas is that it just wouldn't be enough retribution. He has 25,000 years of atrocities to answer for, dozens of enslaved/destroyed worlds, and deaths on his hands numbering at least into the billions. Cutting him down with a sword and just ending him in a moment of righteous justice would feel good for a minute, but then ring hollow.
Bolas has to feel his defeat. He has to know he is beaten, pathetic, and impotent forevermore. His infinite atrocities merit an infinite punishment. Now his victims can begin to have justice.
Yeah... "forever". I guarantee he'll miraculously escape in about 5 years or so, whenever the Phyrexian storyline ends and WotC needs another big bad again.

Take note that Tyrant's Scorn can't actually kill Gideon Blackblade. It can bounce him, but not kill him. And there's always a chance someone will save Gideon's life, like Ajani. Looks like the Blackblade won't be so lucky though. I guess it was too much to ask that Bolas actually, truly die after all the atrocities he's comitted. He'll be back eventually. Maybe not next year, maybe not in the next five years. But sooner or later, events will conspire to bring him back. Again.
I'm guessing Jace turns Bolas' spark-stealing spell back on him right after he's banished to his Meditation Realm? Likely with Ugin's help?
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

No novel spoilers until the book has been release, please. Thank you. -knickm
the survivng planeswalker will regret that they didnt kill him, cause again innocents will die.
i mean what were they thinking ? and the possibilities of his return are so high, he could find a solution himself, one loyal minion somewhere might help him from the outside or what could also happen is, that in a large fight with another yet unknown supervillain his prison gets damaged so he can free himself or w/e.
not many known planeswalker died, the main villain didnt die... what is this war ? it was supposed to be the endgame finale, i got really hyped for story but this... boring. not saying a 12 year old could have written a better story ... but, maybe a 12 year old could have written a better story.
sorry, but i just had to express some kind of disappointment. its also just towards the story, the set itself seems to be super strong.

Still, nice cards.
Man, that flavor text feels SO good to read.

And now forever. Nice.

Dakkon Blackblade 2WUUB
Card-wise both are quite great in limited
I'm sure he will "find a way" to escape his prison when WoTC needs a strong villain again.
