The best part of this spell is Domri death. Oh god can't belive that brat took down old man Borborygmos and made hin a exile, and then when things are going bad he p*** out and go ask bolas to have mercy on hin if he fights the walkers and the rest of Ravnica. Thanks god this trash walker died, had some potential in Gatecrash but in Allegiances he was just all around trash.
Plz Wizards bring back Borborygmos or Ruric Thar, or give us a Gruul leader that isn't a embarrassment, that really cares for the injustice the other guilds did to us (hate Selesnya and Simic especialy)
They took our Jobs
Now that you mention him. Out of curiosity, did Ruric Thar see some action in this war? I haven't seen him in any cards yet.
He has only some quotes (guildgate is one) and in the story he is one of the gruul leaders that deslike the way domri defeated Borborygmos (by summoning alot of boars :\) (those fight game spammers)
We could, but who says that Yawgmoth had access to these? Even if it is ancient knowledge, it is possible that it's not quite as ancient as Phyrexia ancient.
This is true, but the person I was quoting was trying to make a point of "Well sparks were different back then so Yawgmoth couldn't take them!", even though the Elderspell has existed since before the Mending, when sparks were indeed different back then.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

Okay, thanks for the info.
I'm just a bit surprised he hasn't joined in on the action yet.
Strictly, and much, better Bone Splinters which has always existed at the edges of playability. This gives more targets, more fodder, and an alternative casting cost, all for the same base cost and rarity.

Amen, brother.
Domri Rade was one of very few planeswalkers I actually wanted to die in the war. I don't know if it's the punk styling or what but something made me hate him from the very start.
Remember that Bolas is extracting fundamentally different sparks than Yawgmoth.
If the spark extraction is a property of the Elderspell, and the Elderspell was discovered by Bolas within the annals of ancient forgotten Dominarian history, then couldn't we deduce that it was possible to extract these sparks back before the Mending?
But before the Mending planeswalkers were more powerful, so it may not have worked then even if it existed at that time.
wow, domri never got much love from the community, did he ? like no one moans for him, poor boy. not sure how old he is in the story, but to me it looks like a wild teenager that was easy to manipulate and that was abused by a milenia old dragon

Or, more simply, he just was a poor-written filler character merely created for color balance issues. No one is missing him because he was badly written in the first place.
An "anarch" that just straight obey the orders a tyrant and even die as an expendable sacrifice in order to fulfill the ultimate power and authority of said tyrant? This story is getting more and more of a dumpster fire every day
MaRo: Planeswalkers are superheroes.
MTG fandom: Time to reenact "A Death in the Family".
(Of course I'm going to make that joke. "A Death in the Family" was my first comic. I'd only seen reruns of 60s Batman before that, so, even at five, I was basically in the same position as the older fans who didn't know their Robin was off fighting demons, being tortured by a cult, liberating his girlfriend's home planet, and taking care of the son of that mercenary he has a weird relationship with.)
Poor Domri. Destined to die to bring the end of the Multiverse. But hey, like I've said at least a hundred times, it's an event comic. Most characters die in these things.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
1) We have an abundance of RG walker characters already, with Arlinn going mono-green for this set (and from the looks of it Sarkahn is mono-red) just so all of them could fit in.
2) We have a bunch of beast mage like walkers who can take his design space.
3) Related sum to 2, flavor-wise much of his trope space has been taken since we have Aminatou and Teyo (and maybe Huatli?) as teen age and younger walkers which was much of what made Domri special at the time.
4) He was defiantly not the most popular of the walkers.
5) From a story standpoint as user-11102155 said, Domri was a dumb reckless teen who got played by a ancient evil mastermind dragon.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
It will be hilarious if it turns out that Eternals don't kill walkers to extract their sparks. For example, Dack in the trailer doesn't look dead after such procedure.
The technique used to extract sparks is still the biggest secret for me. Yawgmoth tried to do so and achieved nothing when Bolas has an army where every common soldier can perform it by a single strike or bite. I don't even.
Remember that Bolas is extracting fundamentally different sparks than Yawgmoth.
Bolas has been alive far longer and had a spark of his own far longer than Yawgmoth ever had a old-school walker to study. Hell Urza in less time learned how to convert them in to nuclear bombs. Yawgmoths was what amounted to a science-based physician in a world full of magic. His attempts to find what allowed one to have a planeswalker spark were always going to be futile because any living sentient species could potentially have it and many species have different biology. He was trying to find a physical reason for planeswalker sparks when they are aren’t physical.

Please tell me the named planeswalker death count is just Domri. The reaction from the magic the gathering community would be vastly superior reading material to any War of the Spark novel.
"This day will end in death, but not the one you hoped for. Yes, the death to day is just (BEEP)ing Domri Rade."

I think he is like 14 which does make this kind of sad.
But at least he got two very good cards out before biting it.

Your mother was a hamster and your spell smells of elderberries!
Sorry, but every time I see "Elderspell", I can't help but think of this quote...
Which brings us questions: is there a Holy Handgrenade on Ravnica? And can Gideon count to
fivethree?Domri was a pawn of the villain lmao.
This is true, but the person I was quoting was trying to make a point of "Well sparks were different back then so Yawgmoth couldn't take them!", even though the Elderspell has existed since before the Mending, when sparks were indeed different back then.
Well, what do you think is exploding on that new explodey land?
Okay, thanks for the info.
I'm just a bit surprised he hasn't joined in on the action yet.

RUNIN: Norse mythology set (awaiting further playtesting)
FATE of ALARA: Multicolour factions (currently on hiatus)
Contibutor to the Pyrulea community set
I'm here to tell you that all your set mechanics are bad

Yeah. If Chandra's Triumph showing a Dovin engulfed in flames was not a character's death, this could be just a loss of spark, not life.
Notably, he states that this is the case if an Eternal does it, which may mean that if something does it, it may me possible for the PW to survive.
Also full disclosure, I didn't like Domri much either. >_>
