As for the card, very nice card. I've been wanting to do an animated land deck for commander for a while.
Your post just made me think about using this on Arixmethes, Slumbering Isle while it's a land, which sounds absolutely hilarious. When it "wakes up", it's a 21/21.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Sounds good, probably doesn't work - it becomes 0/0 as intended.

This is 5 mana hasty 9/9 if you have it in your hand, or if you draw it you need the 6th mana source to drop it and swing with a land.
Plenty of mana dorks to ramp into this t3/4 in standard. Sure tap out for something irrelevant. I'm going to animate my land, 9 you, and then thud you for another 9. GG if you shocked.
That's a potential t4 lethal on the play with 2 dorks, animate spell, thud, and 3 lands. That's pretty brutal. Especially if you go T1 dork, t2 steel leaf champion, t3 nullhide ferox, t4 this after float mana in response to the board wipe...

This also lets you sidestep the legend rule for a legendary land for this card changes the name. So you could control two copies of a legendary land - one with this which is now called Vitu-Ghazi, the other normal.
I have no idea why this would need haste. If i got 6 mana, i'll simply awaken a land that was previously played.
To get rid of the need to track which land was played on which turn. Imagine arguing with your opponent about which of the identical Forests is the one you played this turn...

Awaken Vitu-Ghazi, then Bloodrush Skarrg Goliath onto it. Oh, and don't forget Terra Eternal just to be a ****.

I'd guess Arena. On Arena, while players CAN pick and choose which lands do and don't get tapped to pay a cost, they don't want to have to code the not-full-control logic "Always use this turn's land to pay the mana" nor do they want to have to deal with complaints from not-full-control players claiming the interface hosed them by default-paying costs with the wrong lands. Easier to just make it idiot-interface-proof.
I know animating lands and giving them haste is also so that you can see use the land-creature that turn for mana as well if you want.

“There are no weak Jews. I am descended from those who wrestle angels and kill giants. We were chosen by God. You were chosen by a pathetic little man who can't seem to grow a full mustache"
"You can tell how dumb someone is by how they use Mary Sue"
You might want to think of it as 6 mana if you are considering the haste and "flash" aspects. Otherwise, the land you play it on has to be tapped to play the spell, making haste irrelevant and "flash" to block irrelevant. It is still a cool end of opponent's turn play to make a big guy to swing on your next one. Just remember you need 6 mana up to use it immediately.
That is why you use mana artifacts in the deck, so you don't need to tap the target.
As for the card, very nice card. I've been wanting to do an animated land deck for commander for a while.
That doesn't really change anything though. If you want to leave a land untapped that is still one extra mana, doesn't matter if you pay with lands or rocks.
But a 9/9 flash haste for 6 is still nice, so is a 9/9 flash citp tapped for 5.

Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.
The dino was 5 green mana and didn't have haste, this is only 2 green and 3 colorless so much easier to cast and can attack immediately.

Get it? It has Awakening!
I think it'd be neat to get a "Time Spiral of the Guilds" set where each guild gets returning mechanics that fit some aspect of their guild.

Properly costed too at 5 cmc.. would be broken at 4 mana, and too slow at 6.
Need to get one of these..
