I also just noticed that Ral himself gives you a free Grapeshot(ish) for every Instant or Sorcery.
That has to be good somewhere, right?
Like, somewhere higher than Standard?

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
I suppose paying 4 to do nothing is too much for modern, otherwise I think Ral would jump into Taking Turns. Every extra turn card give you two turns, and you can plus Ral during the first. He basically double the extra turns, giving the deck even less likelyhood to whiff once it goes off.
Ral is officially redeemed in my book. That artwork is amazing and the artists really pushed the impression he is giving his all for Ravnica.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
I heard about this bolas actually tricked ral he was never a bolas agent just like he did with Kaya
The bolas loosing arc is getting more and more likely by the minute
Liliana comes to her sense and have the eternals only attack bolas and leave the other walkers alone
Ral gets Izzet to revolt against bolas and help niv-Mizzet become the new guildpact depicted on niv-Mizzet reborn
Kaya gets orzhov to revolt against bolas
Jace restores vraskas memory then Golgari will revolt against bolas
Dovin will probably get overthrown some how or killed then lavina or who ever has azorius revolt against bolas
Dormi will be killed or overthrown then whoever will have golgari revolt against bolas
And ugin is probably gonna play a big part he might know a top secret trick with the immortal sun to trap bolas or only turn off his powers with it
I mean, Bolas losing was inevitable. He was running a fast (by his standards) con, not a slow one. Plus from a narrative standpoint he has to lose. I'm looking forward to a break from Bolas, hoping they avoid jumping into an overarching singular villain for a while. If they make a villain group that's acceptable though.
So, Ral's definitely not on team Bolas. Can't assume he's suddenly on team Gatewatch, but better he side with them than the Elder Dragon trying to steal his spark, right?

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
So, Ral's definitely not on team Bolas. Can't assume he's suddenly on team Gatewatch, but better he side with them than the Elder Dragon trying to steal his spark, right?
Yeah, Ral's always been more of a Team Ral, kinda guy.
It's increasingly looking like while he did some work for Bolas (probably because when Bolas "asks" you to do something for him, you don't say "No" if you want to continue living) he was never in on Bolas' plot. And now that Bolas is attacking the one plane Ral actually cares about (it's where he keeps his stuff =P), Ral's very much not okay with that.
Is it just me or is that Planeswalker pretty damn good? I can imagine some variation of Jeskai control making the rounds again after release.
Imagine having Ral on the board and then using his minus ability to kick a fight with fire or a massive Explosion hehe. That's pretty awesome.
I love playing Esper control, but it's really slow and can be boring to play. Jeskai control in standard is less powerful, but I like it's got more of a "spell slinger" feel to it. It feels like you're improvising every turn. Very different feel from Esper, which I like, but I'm glad to see Jeskai getting some more fun cards to mix it up a little.

Well it is a planeswalker that can win the game the turn after he is cast soo ye probably he can see play in standard. In modern there is some possibilities but he would probably not improve the decks he could be good in.
Take a seat and wait. Someone will find a place for hin.
one sad thing about his card tho, is that if your opponent have hexprof, then ral has to shoot hin self (if there are no other walkers)
The bolas loosing arc is getting more and more likely by the minute
this implies there was some chance that bolas would win...
you can see it in the way the story is unfolding in the previews. the fact that the god-eternals nor the 'elder spell' have been previewed yet means there will probably be some down turn where hope seems to be lost then some deus ex machina event will let the good guys win the day, but at a cost.

Aftter this I can say Bolas definitely sucks at alliances.
Bolas doesn't do alliances. That implies he has an equal. He does deals. Something he can do for you (which either works for his plans or doesn't matter) in exchange for something you can do for him (which works with his plans).
I really hope, though, that there is a card--hopefully Chandra's--where she's blown all but 2 of Dovin's fingers off, and then asks, 'How many allies do you have now?'
I have not read the complete lore, but it seems he was just manipulated by Bolas?
That's how it seems. That said, Bolas manipulates and lies to like, everyone. Even himself, as shown prominently in the Core 2019 story.
Ral's still going into my Bolas deck, though. He has worked for Bolas and even reported directly to him at times, so it's not a huge flavor stretch or anything.
