How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
he seems okay, but not as impactful as the recent 4 red drops we've been getting.
He does help dig towards outs if you're fishing for specific cards. Unfortunately you typically won't have many cards in hand in a red deck by the time this hits the ground.
You can t3 off paradise druid and it dodges most removal except lava coil. At that point you're down 5 cards and potentially have drawn 2-3 cards, so the most you could pitch would be 5 cards. If you t4 it you could dig and cast etali, primal storm (which I guess is the best 6 cmc drop). At that point your opponent is on t4 and can wrath you lol.
Great if we get any discard related mechanics in later sets this year (which last was madness in SOI or cycle in amonkhet, so we're sorta ready for the mechanic again).
The steps and phases rider is so that the mana lasts past the end of combat I suppose. Him and grand warlord Radha can form the backbone of a pretty gross banefire set up.
Honestly, it's kind of rare that we get discard effects that:
1. Are reusable
2. Have no mana cost
3. Allow multiple cards to be discarded BUT isn't a full wheel.
4. Is attached to a decent card
While this card is far from Yidris (the legend it most reminds me of), I still dig this thing.

That potential combo with Grand Warlord Radha and Banefire was the first thing I thought of when I read that ability. This seems pretty good.

Oh, wow, this is actually pretty nuts with Riot since he already has trample. Doesn’t care about how much damage, just that he connects. Going to be a standard player for sure.
He combos with a Niv mizzet strategy with expansion explosion. If a jeskai or grixis control shell cant keep the board clear in this meta I'd be very surprised.

2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

He adds R whenever he deals combat damage, and the mana doesn't empty until end of turn. So you could essentially run things like Combat Celebrant or Relentless Assault for continuous combat phases to build extra mana accumulation.

He's a zombie he was already dead. Not hard to believe he just got some patching up. IIRC you gotta cut anything on amonkhet to tiny bits or the curse will just keep bring them back.

It also seems like an interesting change on the previous cards and enabler for both Neheb, the Worthy and Neheb, the Eternal EDH decks.
How can Neheb still exist? Wasn't he killed by Samut during the Hour of Devastation story? Or am I remembering it wrong?
Cool card, though.
If he were grixis I would be totally on board
-Chandra Nalaar
So I was right? Good to know. I wonder if we're getting proper explanation.
I had this same thought. Apparently Hour of Devastation was "merely a setback" and they should have burned his body... Or something.
The Scarab God *can* technically raise zombies as zombies again... I guess.

The answer is, I'm sure, "his body was intact so Scarab could bring him back again."
