This is extremely wierd in blue. As it is either 3U Create a 3/3 black zombie army token or 3U put three +1/+1 counters on your black zombie army token...neither of which strikes me as blue.
Creating a 3/3 token army for such cost is basically casting Giant Octopus or such.
But since you are only putting +1/+1 counters on a Zombie, it passes along with Havengul Runebinder.
It may look like a color pie break, but it isn't one.
*Looks at title* This will be an amass spell.
*Looks at card* Okay, just an amass spell.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

in limited its maybe better than hill giant. If the format is light on removal, the ability to make a +3/+3 bonus on one of your creatures is better than another 3/3 body. But all these planeswalkers and tokens in the format make me think otherwise
I really love the flavor of “amassing an army”. But the execution is just lazy AF imo. It would’ve been nice if it was like “choose a creature type” instead of locking you into the stupidest “creature type” in the history of Magic. Even just good old Zombie would’ve worked. Not only would the flavor be better, but then there’s be backwards compatibility.

Yeah I don't see what would have been so wrong with just replacing every instance of 'army' with 'zombie'.
Its not like zombies would suddenly take over standard or modern because of it, its not even necessarily a benefit in a deck that has zombies since it means less bodies. It would just mean a far more generalized interaction given the huge number of zombies.

The whole point is the there's only one Army at a time (unless you copy or have a changeling or something) they want Amass to build one big creature, not buff a bunch of different Zombies.
Amass and army is such a flavor fail. An army of one token? If at least the army token would lose counters when damaged it would make some modicum of sense.
PS: and on top of that, UB is the new Selesnya WG? Makes token and puts +1/+1 counters. So weird.

Single creature cards have represented multiple individuals for the entire existence of the game. Amass is no more a flavor fail than Scathe Zombies.

Relentless Advance 3U

Amass 3.

It's just a blue Hill Giant.

It's implying that this may not be the first Amass spell you've cast.

Create an army token and put +1/+1 counters on each army token you control.
Yes, they would have to rebalance due to power, but it would be more interesting.
