Oh no, not Lili and Dack! Please, don't tell me they've just killed the only member of the Gatewatch I actually cared about and my favorite non-Gatewatch 'walker both in the same two-minute video!
I know a war has to have casualties, but why did it have to be them!? I wouldn't shed a tear for Gideon, Jace or Chandra. In fact, when we discussed the possible planeswalker deaths in my playgroup the other day, I only listed THREE characters I really didn't want to kick the bucket: Liliana, Dack and Karn.
This so freakin' depressive. I was so hyped for WAR and now it's turned into the set that kills my interest in Magic stories by eliminating the characters I liked while keeping all the boring douchebags around.
I feel like we still need to resolve the Raven Man, so Lilly will live.
I sooo wish you were right, but we literally saw her disintegrate in the video. There's no coming back from that, unless some time reversal is involved.
I feel like we still need to resolve the Raven Man, so Lilly will live. Giddeon doesn't have much story reason to live though.
I would agree, but he hasn't gotten back to Theros yet to amend with his past, and I'm pretty sure he will be the one retrieving Elspeth from the Underworld. Probably as Ajani's last wish...
Of the current Gatewatch Gideon is the only one that is expendable as his story is done.
All five (counting Nissa here) still have story to develop. I'm pretty sure Chandra, Jace and Gideon will outlive this. Nissa is expendable, and Liliana is not (due to Raven Man) but the trailer points to that possibility. I wouldn't put any hopes in the end of this story being anything other than Gideon using Blackblade to end Bolas.
Btw I just want to note that not only did they delay their stream but also managed to give us the world premier of their trailer... muted.
If that was for the better is debatable, but one would think they'd bother with a sound check or something before their so far biggest online event.
This cant be the way Lily goes. It would accomplish nothing. She seems mere seconds from complete disentegration and the eternals she sicked on Bolas arent even close to him,

Been a member here for over a dozen years. Playing since '95 just got lost in the twitch shuffle.
Am I out of the loop here? Does the Internet just hate Linkin Park? I think the theme of the song ties pretty well with Lili's story overall and the moment depicted in the trailer.
Or maybe I'm just out of touch because Hybrid Theory was my ******* middle school jam.
Bear in mind; Liliana is not safe if the mystery of the Chain Veil is solved this set as part of the conclusion of her arc. That resolution could be part of what gives her power to turn on Bolas.

It DOES accomplish something. If she's the one controlling Bolas' troops then having her die means Bolas either has to do the job himself or the army is left in chaos. She was working for Bolas because of her fear of dying, so her finally deciding that death is preferable to serving Bolas is pretty big.
totally called the lili heroic self sacrifice bit, her story and character progression just screamed for it. i think whether she dies a true death, dies a suspiciously open ended elspeth-esque death, or is saved at the end (maybe by gideon) is really the question.
as for ending her story arc entirely, i agree it probably wont happen. in fact this seems like a perfect opportunity to progress it or at least segue into it.

With Teferi turning time around everything is possible to some degree.
If you introduce any form of time-traveling nothing is really set in stone anymore.
So... 2 cases:
1) Gideon will save Liliana by using his shield magic (somehow) and she regenerates redescovering her powers as a healer.
2) WotC will get rid of her because her clothes were too revealing and she was too sexy.
Or she lives in a withered lich-like physical form, doing away with the sexiness.
If Gideon sacrifices himself for liliana I can point out he may not necessary die and become a god just before the death rather than be in erebos underworld like Elspeth
Oh I think ugin gonna do the fatal blow to bolas and he gets the ultimate spark and spreads it out to give it back to the surviving walkers

You already forgot something Teferi can warp time so if he’s there he can probably reverse the desintergration

can totally agree on that. time travel is one of the hardest sci-fi/fantasy story elements (or whatever its called) to pull off without people scratching their head thinking 'well why didnt....'.
guess that kinda applies to a lot of magic in mtg. just gotta suspend your disbelief and accept that things dont happen a certain way because there would be no story otherwise. like asking yourself why a villain didnt just kill the good guy when he obviously could have or why bolas doesnt just make a bunch of walkers his sock puppets with mind control.

I'm thinking one of the new PLaneswalkers has the Time Stone. I really hope this set ends with an infinite loop of "Bolas, I've come to bargain!"

This is now and forevermore what Bolas truly looks like. Combine Smaug and a Balrog, get Bolas. Love it.

Evocative story presentation and the music was just fine.
