Thinking about it, it would be a way to make Intro Pack Planeswalkers playable in a non-casual format. Those PW are deliberately made to be unplayable in constructed... but they would certainly be strong to play in limited formats.
We will have to see, but they would need a lot of answers as well: most would probably need to turn into creatures to attack to prevent board stalls, Dreadbore/Hero's Downfall/a ton of burn...
Perfect set for a Hero's Downfall reprint at uncommon. Drive the price down, save limited, hardly any more impact in a set rammed with PW focus than Murder would be for those "too powerful as an uncommon" folks.
why are we all assuming its 36 planeswalkers and not... 5? one for each color? or 10, one for each guild?
also i'm less interested in the planeswalkers being here, and more interested to see the planeswalker interactions/hate thats printed here
This has already been discussed numerous times. The trailer included art for 36 Planeswalkers. MaRo confirmed they're all art for cards in the set. He's then teased via Blogatog both 30+ Planeswalkers and the potential for Uncommon Planeswalkers.
Dude... non-named planeswalkers kind of defeats the point of planeswalkers.
They aren't like wizards or shamans. Every planeswalker is "special" and has a specific story to tell with where it came from, how it ignited, and where it went.
Let's not forget that the framing device of the game for a long time was that the PLAYER was a planeswalker wielding tremendous power. Turning planeswalkers into something so commonplace that their individual identities don't matter would kind of be... trivializing it
While I've heard people speculate they changed the planeswalker rule specifically to prepare for this... that doesn't make any sense, either. Unnamed planeswalkers wouldn't have a subtype or name and therefore wouldn't be affected by the old planeswalker rule.
The closest thing that I could imagine to this is a possible planeswalker card for a walker who is actively hiding their identity (a la Blind Seer), in which case we may get a (still legendary) walker called "The Laughing Man" or something.
I have to agree. Uncommons would probably be, what, two-ability Planeswalkers with some utility, but not more powerful than a given legendary creature? I mean, they're basically going to be red shirt Planeswalkers, but whatevs.

It's a three dollar card, does the price really need to be driven down?

That suggests these won't be typical PW's but more something like Sagas. It just doesn't seem to be thematic to have them be stained glass art and then normal abilities, rather it makes more sense that there's a concept or mechanic driving why they're all represented in a particular way, much like some Saga's were akin to pages from a book.
I would not be surprised if they're in fact something like limited use planeswalkers, with several different abilities but one time use only for each. I find it hard to believe they balanced around 36 normal, full power planeswalkers without either a lot of brokenness or disappointment down the road.
I just hope they won't be making more "Tybalt". I'm not demanding all 36 walkers to be full power modern staples, just don't make more than half of them "tybalt" power level = also known as useless.

Yes and no, the stain glass was a filter they put on art that will be used for the cards.

From the article: no, they are just promotional images.

The colors won't be in perfect balance, but I don't see why that would be a problem as long as color distribution is fair. Most of these are not going to be constructed plants, so maintaining exact color balance isn't as important as maintaining the limited environment.
I can see a limited environment with a lot of planeswalkers working fine so long a there are enough ways of interacting with the walkers that don’t require attacking them. Stuff like banishing light at uncommon, bramblecrush in green, a red lava coil variant that can hit planeswalkers and creatures, maybe a sorcery speed common black removal spell that hits walkers and creatures with a cmc of 5 like Deadly Visit and some sort of lockdown enchantment in blue that keeps creatures tapped and can also be put on walkers to prevent adding loyalty (or prevents using loyalty abilities that subtract loyalty).
I am hoping that Narset is full Jeskai colors this time. I liked both her creature and Planeswalker forms, but I was hoping as a 'Walker she'd be RWB. Here's hoping she's gained back the red!

How many walkers amoung these will be playable i wonder
I'm gonna guess we gonna see a lot of Sarkhan, Fireblood or Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury like walker cards, more niche and powerful or certain for the right deck or more utility or tool boxing than just an all around power houses.

Who is Predator oh Davriel you mean. I think Sanderson said he is ESPER? So ESPER, BANT, GRIXIS....just need Jund and Naya lol. To achieve some balance.
Also a -6 for just a Flame Slash is kind of wonky, even for a common planeswalker. Would personally make it a -3 and have it be a Roast. Because of Gurmag Angler.

Seriously how just ok would a walker like this be at common. 99% of the time it is just a more vulnerable version of Curse of the Pierced Heart.

obviously, its not completely worthless yet.

Ah ok, interesting.
To balance you need a number divisible by 5. Ugin and Karn throws off any calc.

I mean usually get one good walker a set. So I don't know 6 out of 36 I wanna say. I expect at least one to be Teferi Level or stronger.

It would shock me if that or very close isn't in here, it would go really well with spectacle
BW: Sorin, Kaya

That's even color distribution and takes 32 slots, leaving 4 spaces for three color cards:
BRU: Bolas
RWU: Narset
RUG: Sarkhan
UWG: Tamiyo
Edit: Locking in my predictions. It would be highly unlikely that it's completely accurate, but I bet it's not too far off.

The big relevant difference from curse of the pierced heart... is that this would deal damage on your turn, not your opponents’.
For enabling Spectacle and Bloodthirst, that’s a *very* substantial difference.
