Brace yourselfs for possibly at long last getting the ally colors of the swords
Yay!!! I just hope they don't nerf them like they did finishing the manlands. if they keep the '3-2-powerful effect and 2 protections' then I'm good. I wish the other ones were cheaper

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
Well, that's five possible mythic slots right there, on top of 1-5 Planeswalkers.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
I hope not. As much as swords are cool for commander/casual 'wasting' 5 mythic slots for cards that are not quite modern playable would be a shame. They're better off being left for an equipment matters commander precon or a battlebond style product
Exactly. Maybe or maybe not. Enthusiasm is good but needs to be held in check at times.

Bear in mind there is no realistic chance that a majority of the set is strong in modern, even at Mythic rarity. That is simply not how Magic sets work. Nobody is playing Balefire Dragon in Modern just because it was a Mythic Rare in Ultimate Masters.

🤣😂🤣😂 It wasn’t even played in Innistrad standard either at the same rarity. At least the swords saw some play during their respective stanard runs. Though yes Light&Shadow and War&Peace didn’t see as much as the others.

Unless this is the tinfoil hat place they reprint Stoneforge Mystic because it's not legal in modern...yet.
It is in the modern card pool but banned
Correct. But their wording seems to be intentionally "tricky": "..with a mix of reprints not yet legal in Modern.."
Stoneforge Mystic is a card that is not yet legal in modern, and they could unban it on release. They seem confident that the buy-a-box promo is a cool version of a reprint that people will want - I think SFM potentially fits that bill. And, if they're printing the ally swords, a good way to make them not feel like wasted mythic slots would be to make the swords better in modern, a la SFM reprint.
I don't know if SFM is the card; it's mostly just funny to bring up because it's the one people keep spec'ing on to be unbanned. However, WoTC's phrasing does make it seem like they're reprinting a card that they intend to unban.
War and Peace was the sword for that Standard. Early on, people liked Feast and Famine, but the Squadron Hawk and especially the Delver decks evolved into using mostly War and Peace in their final form. Body and Mind wasn’t used at all.

You make a very compelling case. Can you imagine a world where Jace gets unbanned, Stoneforge gets unbanned, they print 5 new swords, and literal Counterspell is modern legal?
Do we really need five more swords? Sure the swords are "two color" but they're actually all colorless. Any deck that wants a sword has plenty of options.
I feel like if you want great equipment, there's no reason it has to be more of the same. The same old 3 cost, 2 equip, +2/+2, two abilities on connect model isn't the be all. Why not spears, shields, or axes? Helm of blue/black could be just as good as sword of blue/black.
Would be neat if they weren't all swords. But what do I know? Someone in their marketing probably told them it would make the set sell more if they released five more Swords of Y & X.
So they have to a free our favorite kor right from the banlist? If they are printing more swords.
Yeah sure why not😜. It’s not like they banned Stoneforge Mystic because of the availability of the three swords and batterskull in that standard or anything....oh wait...they did.
Seriously though....NO. Stoneforge is Overpowered To The MAX! Being able to plop down any equipment at anytime for 1W is broken.
WotC has been stuipd and back and forth on things the last 3 some years. Don’t encourage them to break the one thing they do that is intelligent and reasonable....not banning everything else/powering down everything else just to make one card not overpowered.

I thought they were saving the allied color swords for the return to Mirrodin? Well, if they would pring them now I'm not complaining.
Just don't make them too broken in abilities.

The problem is the original swords are all too powerful for Standard, so if we wanted to get the other half through Standard, they would be weaker. Most people want a compete cycle of similar strength, so this is a much better way to deliver on that request.
Edit: also worth noting that Mirrodin is now New Phyrexia.

Not really too powerful for Standard. A card like Abrade in the format is more than enough to keep them in check. Any time someone spends 5 mana on them just to have the creature removed at instant speed is a significant set back.
About the allied swords it is nice to remember they did one on Unstable (lol) and I bet that if they would release more then they prob would make them separately and not all in the same set. Soo Maybe we could see a allied sword in this (and having swords skipping standard is probably a good idea).
Also I was thinking... plz wotc make a card for Colfenor, maybe a abzan treefolk with death touch that gains life when a card you own is exiled and can pay life to pick cards from exile.( ye know it is too specific but I think it would match with other cards attributed to hin)

I have all 5 of the others. I'll not be missing these... If they are printed. Maybe is still maybe after all.

Hold your horses I said possibly not is happening
Usually when maro does the “maybe :)” thing it happens but that doesn’t mean it is happening
I am still excited foir the prospects. I had not even thought new swords would be the the set.
