What would be cool and what somebody suggested: Having Feroz as another planeswalker, with his ability referencing Feroz's Ban.
It would be interesting to see what the ratio of new vs reprints would be. I'd hope at least for the "standard" 70-80nex pieces, as in the supplementary sets like Conspiracy series or Battlebond.

Would be nice, but having both Serra and Feroz would be like rubbing salt in the wound of those players who are missing the lines "This card can be your commander" and/or "Partners with Serra/Feroz"
Just the promise of this set (and its lack of Modern reprints) is triggering the Secondary Market already. Check out the price on Scalding Tarn. Just when I hope a set will make a format cheaper stuff like this happens. Oh well, c'est la vie. Looks like I will be playing a lot more Pauper. Hope there are some decent commons coming out.
Card price for high demand cards always tend to go up when a set is confirmed not to have them in it. And fetches don’t go down for reprint sets. MM17 didn’t dent the prices of enemy fetches at all, hell the reprints have the same price as the originals. Unless it they come in a 3.99 well printed set like allied fetches did enemy fetches won’t go down at all.

What I was hinting at is that a set like this needs to have some reprints in it as well to keep secondary prices at least reasonable. On top of that this needs to be a yearly set, every 2 years like it will probably be and Scalding Tarn (and other high power staples) will be 200 dollars a copy.

I'm pretty sure the op was referring about the fact that he's hoping that the new cards (like Serra) will outnumber the old cards (new to modern, but only reprints), which is what I would also kinda hope.
Now, since Cabal Teraphist is listed as the 80th card of the new cards and after black there are still all the red, green, multicolor and artifacts and lands, I guess the new ones will be really a lot, definitely more than the regular 54-56 cards of commander / summer supplemental product like planechase, conspiracy or battlebond.
Or maybe WotC isn't treating this as a supplemental product (with all the new cards in the beginning and just later on listed the reprints) but like a core set, which means that the new cards could be 200 like 50 spreaded around the set, but I really hope is the first case, because that means that the new cards will be really a lot.
Given the info we got now both the things are equally possibile at the moment.
It said there’s 249 new cards and there’s 254 total my lad
249 new to Modern, which includes pre-8th edition reprints. The extra five are the basic lands.
Honestly, I think the new cards will be fairly limited in number and there will be a ton of chaff reprints at all rarities under the guise of making it a good limited format.
As long as they print Elvish Spirit Guide I won't care what else is in the set. So long as it's not a rare. Then I'll be grumpy.
Edit: I have a soft spot for Spectral Bears. They're not on the RL (uncommon) and could be a cute fit in the set.

elvish spirit guide seem highly unlikely. not entirely implausible, but wizards takes the conservative line more often than not and another piece of 'free' fast mana has a lot of implications that can be easily overlooked in testing.

If simian spirit guide hasn’t been on the ban watchlist (and hardly anyone is even using Chancellor of the Tangle), I can’t imagine elvish is beyond the pale. And that new art for it needs to get on paper.
They’re not going to shake up modern if they’re so conservative they won’t even reprint things because they are similar to cards whose power level is tolerated in in modern.
They wouldn’t tolerate esg in standard because they don’t want that fast mana in standard. But this set is a chance to dodge what has been the reason-not-to-reprint for so many cards for so long.
I'm among the group that feels tribal will be a big thing in the modern horizons set due to the appeal it has to casual players. Think wildwood symbiote, quirion ranger, goblin lackey, goblin ringleader, goblin matron, standard bearer, benevolent bodyguard or mother of runes, enlistment officer, recruiter of the guard, and this soldier I cant remember the name of that can play around with blocks.

youre right. my point was that it looks pretty tame on the surface. however fast mana is often a roleplayer in the most degenerate play patterns, and ESG may give some unknown or overlooked deck the critical mass it needs to be truly broken. some risks are more worth taking than others. i get that some people like the card, but in the grand scheme of things i dont see many (or any for that matter) outcomes that would come from the inclusion of the card and the boost to the types of decks that play it.

Ok I will admit is a selfish desire to have it in Commander more than anything. That format really need those colored 2 cc mana rocks for color balance reasons. And I know they will never waste those 5 slots for a commander product, since it got only 50 new cards at time, so this set seems the good place to fit that hole.
As an addendum to what someone said before, I'd love to see the Mirage fetchlands (Mountain Valley et al.) along with an enemy colour variation to complement. It would be the ideal way to offset the obscure costs of the rare versions in Khans and Zendikar. Not sure if they'll occupy ten slots for that but hey one can dream!
I’m wondering about a couple of other old cycles of not-rare lands. The enters tapped taps for one sacs for two cycles (Ruins of Trokair cycle, Irrigation Ditch cycle), and the enters tapped taps for 2 twice lands (Remote Farm cycle).
They wouldn’t exactly become modern staples, but they would fill niches in draft (any of them allows a 3-drop on t2, at a cost) and be passable budget entry level options that have been left in strictly-pre-modern land too long.
However, how is WOTC planning to address the elephant in the room, ie, the manabases, Modern is pretty much a fetchland+shockland format, Tron notwithstanding. What is a Goblin deck going to do against those manabases?
Ruination could be backbreaking for Modern. In fact, I fear that might make monored too good. We might start seeing more Sacred Ground and Terra Eternal to prevent utter blowouts.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
