Oh yeah, her face does look kind of weird, then again I guess I just didn't notice since personally I got used to her being off model most of the time.
the art is worse than usual, which is REALLY saying something, as 99% of mtg art these days resembles a bucket of CGI vomit. WOTC cutting costs as usual.
Over the course of its 25-year history, Magic: The Gathering—the world’s first and most popular trading card game—has redefined the fantasy genre through its exploration of diverse, fantastic worlds. And traversing those worlds are Planeswalkers, heroes who have sworn to defend the Multiverse from harm. Magic: The Gathering: Rise of the Gatewatch is a visual history and celebration of Magic’s first team of Planeswalkers—Jace Beleren, Ajani Goldmane, Gideon Jura, Chandra Nalaar, Nissa Revane, Liliana Vess, and Teferi. The Gatewatch’s character histories, from their origins through their final confrontation with Nicol Bolas, are presented here via the very best card, packaging, and convention-exclusive artwork, all of it reproduced together here for the first time, some seen for the first time outside of the card frame. Rise of the Gatewatch is a giftable visual reference guide sure to appeal to new and longtime Magic fans alike.

Ah yes, the first planeswalker team, I remember the Gatewatch when they were called "The Eight Titans" during the war for Dominaria against the Phyrexian invasion. /sarcasm
Chandra is the 2nd most popular planeswalker and doesn’t receive nearly the amount of hate that Jace does. Maybe Jace will sacrifice himself killing Bolas? Another possibility is something similar to how Avacyn trapped Griselbrand in the hellvault. Maybe Jace and/or Liliana will trap Bolas in the eternal sun but they’ll be trapped also. That way we could have stories without Jace, Lily, and Bolas but always revisit them at a later date.

Jace getting killed right after he unlocked his memories of Vryn? Doubtful.

Yeah, the problem is that all of the Gatewatch have compelling reasons to remain alive. Jace and Gideon have yet to revisit their birthplanes, Liliana still has the Raven Man to figure out, and Chandra is too popular to kill off. She seems to have the longest way to go as far as character development is concerned.
Nissa is the only one I could see being killed if she does show up, because her arc would be resolved by her making the choice to leave Zendikar and fight Bolas again.
Counting the newer memebers, Ajani still has Elspeth looming over his story, Teferi still has Zhalfir looming over his, and that's about it.
I don't doubt that a few planeswalkers are gonna die in this set, but I have a feeling one or more of those deaths will feel out-of-place.
I guess people are kind of off-put by Chandra's face? Otherwise the art looks about par for the course to me.
It's not so much that as "Oh look, they're all making mana-colored swirly thingies." With purple being the new black and amber(?) being the new white. At least to me.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Chandra has Jace to distract the hate for her. Chandra is also kinda bs diversity in my book.
Also I would say Chandra doesn't really have compelling story reasons. Jace has Vryn, Lili has Raven Man, Nissa can help fix Zendikar, and even Gideon still has to settle with some Gods. Granted I agree Chandra is not going to die. Gideon is most likely cause no one knows what to do with him.
If I were a betting man, Chandra will be the next Planeswalker to get the cool Signature Spellbook, so she will pull focus a little this year.
Sounds a reasonable bet she is getting a push of late. Granted I think they might take the wrong lessons from Jace. The issue is not Jace especially its overfocus on one character or one group of characters to the detriment of every other character.

And Chandra is a key figure instead of Jace.
...It’s probably nothing.

2. Chandra didn't do really much in the Gatewatch.

Chandra looks terrible.
Gideon, Lily, and Jace look fine.
