"Teyo Verada wants nothing more than to be a shieldmage, wielding arcane energies to protect his people from his world’s vicious diamondstorms. When he’s buried alive in the aftermath of his first real tempest, the young mage’s life is about to end before it can truly begin—until it doesn’t. In a flash, a power he didn’t know he had whisks him away from his home, to a world of stone, glass, and wonder: Ravnica. Teyo is a Planeswalker, one of many to be called to the world-spanning city—all lured by Nicol Bolas, the Elder Dragon. Bolas lays siege to the city of Ravnica, hungry for the ultimate prize: godhood itself. His unparalleled magic and unstoppable army appear poised to bring the city to utter ruin.
Among those who stand in the way of Bolas’s terrifying machinations are the Gatewatch, Planeswalkers sworn to defeat evil, no matter where it’s found. But as they work to unite the other mages and mount a defense of the city and its people, the terrifying truth of Bolas’s plan becomes clear. The Elder Dragon has prepared a trap to ensnare the most powerful mages from across the Multiverse—and it’s too late to escape.
As forces great and small converge on the city and the battle rages, the stakes could not be higher. If the Gatewatch falters and the Planeswalkers fail, the curtain will fall on the age of heroes—and rise on the infinite reign of Nicol Bolas."
Hopefully it provides much details on Teyo's homeplane as it already sounds very interesting. Also hopefully that Teyo is a very interesting and well-developed character.
If the Gatewatch falters and the Planeswalkers fail, the curtain will fall on the age of heroes—and rise on the infinite reign of Nicol Bolas."
And this here is exactly why Bolas can't possibly win, or the rest of Magic will just be a series of postcard sets called 'Bolas visits Ixalan', 'Bolas visits Innistrad', 'Bolas visits Kaladesh' etc., each featuring a PW card called 'Bolas - God of [plane]', with art depicting him laughing maniacly against an assortment of backgrounds.
"The stakes could not be higher."
Good joke, considering the plot armor most of the protagonists have. There's no way Wizards would hurt their "most popular" characters too much, not to mention all the hanging plot threads, and the same goes for the most popular plane. Hell, I doubt even Bolas will kick the bucket, they will probably want to reuse such a popular villain.
Teyo's homeworld sounds pretty neat. Could it be the "underground plane" (storms on the surface -> people have to hide)? Whatever it is, I' like to hear more about it.
I wonder if Teyo will get a card or be story only. I like him being a new walker too, can be way to have exposition to explain whats going on.
So I guess this book will have events from Teyo pov and the web fiction focus on someone else.

I get the sense that you're criticizing the story on account of being able to predict one element of the outcome. With humour, sure, but this seems to be a criticism or gripe as well, otherwise you wouldn't raise it.
Why is this a problem though?
take Lord of the Rings: the stakes are literally "the end of the world" so of course the protagonists win in the end. That doesn't make it a cheap, boring or predictable narrative overall though.
More or less every story with stakes like this presents the idea "yes, you'll probably win, but at what cost" so the story becomes more than just an incredibly superficial "do we win" (to which the answer is obvious, and that seems to be your gripe). Instead we get elements of "what sacrifices do we have to make in order to not lose" which can make for a compelling story. You want a stable character you can root for, one that (hopefully) won't fail in their journey, but their struggle and arc as a character are what's important, not just the simple matter of whether they 'win' or not.
Interesting, previously people thought Teyo was a lady, guess he's just handsome and wears a robe.
The few white dudes they put on cards these days mostly look like a cross dresser at best lol

It wasn't too long ago that the Eldrazi, the other recurring archnemesis, were more or less indefinitely taken care of. I could see an outcome where Nicol Bolas is indefinitely taken care of -- sealed away or incapacitated in a way that the story can leave him alone for a while and when the time comes, becoming archvillain again would require an Ob Nixilis style storyline. I, too, would rather not continually dwell on the gatewatch crew and Bolas.

Waiting for Jace to be rocky and save the day; Ajani almost killed him. Just milking that lore as much as they can, then go back to preexisting sets so nostalgia.
I don't doubt that a couple Planeswalkers may die, there are quite a few who didn't have the impact that Wizards had hoped they would, or straight up cannon fodder 'walkers that were never meant to be all that important. (Arlinn Kord, Huatli, Tibalt, forgetting a few that literally are forgettable.)
And if anything, we're definitely gonna lose some Ravnican legends. Sad
1. The diamond storms and shield mages are very similar in description to the Hekma and general feel of amonkhet. I'm not sure if removing Egyptian influence is enough of a differentiator for me. I wouldn't be surprised if Teyo didn't make the end.
2. I guess it's safe to assume that only planeswalkers who try and travel are lured/directed to Rav?
3. If there are a bunch of walkers (Nissa, koth, elspeth, Kiora, garruk) who don't show up in art / teasers so far, this is a great way to clean out the "fridge" that creative mentions from time to time. I think the story has a lot of auxiliary things going on that are very much so loose ends (kiora stealing thasssa's indent just to leave and not fight for zendikar).
4. Very obvious that bolas cannot win because of the Chandra comic. We know at least some of the good guys survive the eternals + immortal sun + bolas. I agree the journey is the story not the end. I'm looking forward to it.
Teyo better end up being the reason for Bolas defeat. The description leads me to belive Teyo is a literal unkown factor Bolas can’t account for because there’s no way he would have know about him beforehand. Bonus points if Teyo accidentally becomes the old-school powered walker Bolas is trying to return to. Heck that would make the most sense as to why Bolas gets defeated.

the terrifying truth of Bolas’s plan becomes clear.
He's going to steal their sparks to become a god? Can't think of what else qualifies as terrifying for a bunch of bamboozled planeswalkers. I'll be happy to wrap up Bolas as the big bad (hopefully). He's kind of boring at this point.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

I mean it spoils that Chandra, Ajani and Tibalt survive and Chandra has some PTSD but you certainly don't get the impression reading the comic that Bolas achieved total victory and slaughtered most of their friends or that Ravnica is gone as a Plane. Now it seems some people died and Ravnica took some damage. But Chandra and Ajani act way to casual to make me think anyone is prepping another fight against Bolas. The comic is like 2 months olds and all that stuff is in the first issue.
If Bolas does become a god, can't Elspeth just be resurrected and slay him? Seems pretty simple to me.
Elspeth isn’t inherently a god-slayer. It was because of a weapon that Purphoros created that could slay gods. And resurrecting her isn’t simple because Erebos bars the dead from returning to Theros from the Underworld, which includes Elspeths ability to planeswalk. The only way to escape is forge a golden mask and wear it and become a Returned, which remove your memories of your life. Or as Reviving Melody’s flavor text states a very strong emotional connection to someone on Theros. While she has a strong connection to Daxos who is on Theros....as a Returned

the most revolutionary thing that will happen (I think) will be that from 10 guilds we will have 5 (by fusing guilds in couples).
This will allow to have single sets for returning to Ravnica and shake up the flavour a little.
For as much as I love the 10 guilds, they were thought for a 3sets-block design and unless they want to spend at least 2 sets every time they return to Ravnica, some of the guilds must go.

That would imo be too much of a change to the fundamentals of Ravnica. Besides, we already have Tarkir and Alara as the three-color faction planes, and Maro keeps saying that three-color sets are hard to design, so there are unlikely to be more.
