No, no it is not, unless Tezzeret is brain dead enough to take the Planar Bridge over to them they can not leave Argentum/Mirrodin/New Phyrexia and even if he did the only way they could be a threat is if they managed to make oil bombs and infect entire planes from scratch a plan that is nowhere near guaranteed to work.
Trying to force New Phyrexia as some sort of real threat is on the level of trying to force Zendikar 2 in terms of bad ideas.

Besides I’m sure the phyrexians are trying to figure out how to do something like planar bridge on their own

You are way underestimating them. Old phyrexia could easily craft planar portals, if a random elf learnt how to do that (and Venser was able too if i remember), why phyrexian shouldn't be able to craft similar engines?
On their strenght, they can easily infiltrate sleeper agents and destabilize
Honestly i think they are more a threat than eldrazi or bolas, simply because they are more subtle and resilient.
If Elspeth's origin wasn't retconned, we still have misterious phyrexian colonies scattered thrugh the multiverse

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
I seriously don't understand why so many people want to see wizards kill off a huge swath of there most popular intellectual property. I can dig a few irrelevant characters getting killed off. It seems better to finish the Bolas plot line and diversify and fill out the characters they already have and flesh them out into something interesting. Maybe a main gatewatch character who doesn't have any meaningful story left could die. It's also most likely not going to be Jace. He is one of the only main gatewatch characters who's home plane we haven't visited yet and that's at least one story I feel we will see before he gets the axe. They went through the trouble of getting his memory back after all! Probably not going to kill off Bolas either. Good villains never get killed off for good. Pretty sure that might be considered bad story telling. Me personally I don't have a problem any current walker, I'd hate to see a bunch of them killed off at the moment. The forum community in general are incredibly cynical and would find a way to voice displeasure at any possible twist in War of the Spark. Looking forward to war of the spark though! Teaser looks great

Killing off inconsequential characters accomplishes nothing. It has no impact on the story or the consumer, making an attempt at shock value that lacks shock.
And most of the Gatewatch characters are boring as hell and haven’t gotten any more interesting over the years.

Game of thrones kills things and is popular
Infinity war kills things and is popular
Honestly i'm really getting and infinity war feeling out of this set, i think wotc is trying to replicate it as much as possible.

Flipwalkers, and things that can activate into planeswalkers have the wrong flavor: people aren't becoming planeswalkers, they're having their sparks taken.
Not entirely, people have just been thinking about it backwards. Think more like this or that. Cards with two effects that when depleted of loyalty counters, are then flipped into Legendary Creatures.

Sure, but what would WOTC do following the post-Infinity War or GOT-inspired ending...They would have to replace it with something as enticing and capturing to ensure player base continuity. I do not think a Jace & Vraska lovestory would make for a successful spinoff in that sense (provided both survive of course).
At least with the end of the Invasion/Weatherlight 1.0 line we had a segue with the Mirari and that lead us to Mirrodin, which would eventually lead us to the cast of characters and arc we have now, but that was years in the making. I do not think players attention spans are that patient enough this day and age. Ok, we could do Weatherlight II (which I would be totally fine with) but is that enough to keep the existing base on board.
Edit: In fairness, the Odyssey/Mirari story gave us new characters with occasional flashbacks to the times prior to that line happening (refernce to the Ancestor). I guess they COULD have a whole new storyline with a new cast of characters and reference previous Gatewatch-esque characters in memoriam. A thought...
- We still have New Phyrexia that is entertaining the idea of other lanes if not directly trying to create a technology to invade them.
- Emrakul is still inside Innistrad's moon.
- Nahiri is still an angry lady (assuming she doesn't turn up and dies on Ravnica)
- Zendikar is being rebuilt.
- Resurgence of the clans on Tarkir now that the draognstorms have subsided.
I personally would love to see a scaling down of the plot. The Gatewatch Vs. Bolas and "it is all Bolas' plan" was long (and boring) enough, even longer than the whole Weatherlight/Urza saga at this point.
Returning to different loosely related plots with returning characters instead of a fixed cast of heroes like we had from Mirrodin to Origins would be a very welcome change (at least form me).
This was what I was thinking too. Not necessarily only 2 abilities (mythic walkers will be the norm, possible rare walkers only having 2 - abilities) and once all loyalty counters are removed it transforms into a legendary creature. This could represent that when the walker 'dies' it becomes a legendary creature. I think there could be a large amount of design space if they do this.
I'm not saying it's the right way to handle the story, i'm just explaining the reasons behind it

Yes every writing takes inspiration to different media, but it isn't necessary for those examples to be copied.
And it's a misconception to assume what works in another media would work exactly or smoothly in another very different media without the consequences to it's franchise.
Yes every writing takes inspiration to different media, but it isn't necessary for those examples to be copied.
It’s not necessary for any particular inspiration to be used. You’re conflating what you personally want with what WotC should be doing as a business.
And it's a misconception to assume what works in another media would work exactly or smoothly in another very different media without the consequences to it's franchise.
Why do you assume WotC sees no inherent risk is doing what they’re doing? Why do you think there’s a risk-free way of running a company?
The bigger problem is WotC's idea that all sets have to have one cohesive plotline following the Gatewatch.
Would anyone be interested in seeing Tamiyo just revisiting Kamigawa for a set? Or an interlude on Lorwyn or Alara? Sort of a "Where are they now?" type of tour of the planes. The Gatewatch isn't needed for all that and considering their current track record, it might be time for a break. Since Zendikar, every plane they've visited as a group except Dominaria and maybe Kaladesh is worse off than they were before. Not entirely their fault, but mostly.
And why does it even need to be linear? Why can't we have one block about Serra's Realm? Bad example, given the mono-white influence there, but that's not the point. It's destroyed *now* but it existed - let's see what it looked like! There's plenty of other possibilities that don't involve following the fumbling exploits of the Multiverse's least effective super-team. Too bad it's practically telegraphed that they're going to stumble into a nearly consequence-free win because WotC would never trash Ravnica or do any of the GW any permanent harm, not to mention reintroduce an evil Pre-Mending-level Planeswalker.
The whole thing with this Teyo, for instance, is good. If it's not Vryn, they have a new plane they could make a set about that would have NOTHING to do with the Gatewatch, or Bolas, or any of that.

Old Phyrexia had the tecnology to make planar portals before, it could very well happen again
Just get into the topic I originally responded which is suggesting that game of thrones or infinity war. Yes everything has a risk but they should choose it wisely not everything that is trendy should be imitated and not everything that works from the other would work the same thing on another.

But you have no idea what will work or not. Your criticisms are asinine since you have no idea what the story will actually be. People saying “I have a feeling there’s some Infinity War or GoT influence in there” is just that, people saying.

Why you said I have no idea? That the truth, there is no silver bullet or a one size fit all solution to everything. Everything do works in way you understand what works and not but it doesn't mean you achieve the similar expectation, resolution, risk and consequences.
This is a TCG don't expect it to work like a tv series that prioritize ratings.

My first Set was Avacyn Restored so I have no nostalgic feelings for Kamigawa, Alara or Lorwyn. They are as interesting as a new plane for me. And to be honest I dislike Tamiyos super blue, neutral alignment.
Everyone is different. I like this form of story telling. You have a thread that is easier to follow. The story jumping and switching of the protagonist would be annoying.
I dislike the fact, that we are mostly visiting planes with some kind of apocalyptic problem. Maybe they should add some kind of break set. For example a set dedicated to Ajani searching for an Ally in multiple planes. The Core sets are already doing something similar, too.

Basing from Game of thrones is not good strategy in handling a TCG franchise like MTG.
Poor analogy and marketing management for tcg to refer from a different media with a different priorities and target audience.

MtG is essentially peerless. They literally have to look at other forms of media for marketing inspiration.
