I assmume Izzet Drake and Boros Weenie will be there since they're some of the ones with the least rares/mythics. It'd be fun to see Mono U tempo tho, it'd sure upset some people even if they reprinted it 1:1 because of how few expensive cards it runs.
I hope Teferi's in one of them so I can pick up some more. I got mine at $13 (lol!) and I'm not paying $50 for another.
In Gavin’s interview with the Professor, he was torn about saying the answer. He seemed to want to say yes, but obviously can’t. He also mentioned how the Chandra/Hazoret challenger deck was the ‘IT’ deck when they announced them. I don’t think he wanted to say yes that Teferi is one of the decks and over hype it and make it automatically the ‘IT’ deck. He probably wants the other decks to get a fair chance.
The other challenger deck got a fair chance since we didn’t know Chandra was in one ahead of time. If people did, nobody would have bothered to give the other decks a glance.
Funny that, not even a year later, another one of that generation of decks has overtaken the Hazoret deck in value. It makes me wonder if that's by design - that one deck will be the clear value favorite for standard use, but another one stands to be the longterm best value because of capable modern content.
(actually, by pennies, the Hazoret deck is now third - but that's because of Unclaimed Territory holding standard value)
Of course, this all gets kinda gummed up when Phoenix and Teferi already have huge modern footholds.
Right now, per mtggoldfish, the value of the 4 first-generation decks is actually a pretty close race. Only Second Sun Control is far behind the other three, which are all within a couple dollars of one another.

Honestly it seemed more to me like he didn't want to give the answer because it's "No" and he wanted people to at least see the decklists before they decide "no Teferi, no buy".

Excited? He was clearly nervous. Why? Because obviosuly the Prof and his fans wanted to hear that Teferi will be in the deck, and was stuck without anything to say that would not be disappointing. If he was really excited and if Teferi was going to be in a challenger deck, he would've immediately said something to the effect of "just wait and see", and not spend 30 seconds in awkward silence. He basically wanted to avoid a Wyatt Cheng.

Guys really hoping for Teferi are reading what they want in Gavin's expressions. I think Gavin was simply put on the spot and all sorts of PR disaster scenarios ran through his head with that question. Now I think I have a more neutral take. I don't care much about Challenger decks since I only buy Arena stuff now. In fact, once you take a step back from paper Magic enfranchisement like I have, you may see how silly some of the more extreme people read into things.
Then again, so far no one has said Gavin's expressions confirmed that we are returning to Kamigawa.
the previous challenger decks were a great product with 4 meta relevant decks.
since i Ajani's Pridemate was confirmed, i wonder what deck he will be in that is meta relevant. never saw him in any list of any decent tournament, nor in my own standard games. i know he was in a kind of starter deck online, but that cant count, or ?
are they downgrading the challenger decks ? the last ones were well designed and playable right out of the box. i fear a white weenie deck with a pridemate wont be able to hold up to the previous challenger decks

but who would want to buy one as card game ?
the purpose of the product was to be able to play right out of the box with these in a tournament and have real chances with space to improve the deck

GRN Pro tour deck list with the lifegain package. LSV's deck with the settle in the side I think. What is interesting about this deck is that you can put quite a few legion's landing to fill up rare value and history of benalia - which is way more expensive than it should still be. The rest of the deck is quite cheap from a secondary market perspective. Both are rotating relatively soonish and add a lot of omph to something like tokens or the RW variants - allowing people to trade and branch out.
There was a jeskai control deck that also did well in that top 8. The deck ran 4 teferi though. So maybe a watered down version.
I agree that drakes seems like an easy include, but the deck is very cheap compared to other decks. Not sure how you squeeze value in it without making it like a turbo niv deck or dropping Phoenix in. Both of which feel too recent to show up? I dunno.
Mono blue has been posting okayish results for quite some time. siren stormtamer and merfolk trickster carry some value for uncommons which could help prop it up out of the gate. This deck does play differently than W or RW aggro and I could see both of them. It's very close to drakes though.
Mono green stompy had an incredible amount of hype during Dom (when these were being conceptualists probably). It's a great repository for lots of staples getting ready to rotate.
Golgari seems like the more competitive green deck. doom whisperer gives it plenty of value and top end out of the box. It plays the explore package more successfully than mono green as well.
My guesses:
Golgari (GB)
Drakes (UR)
White or Boris aggro (W or RW)
Something else, probably 3 color.
The first three pretty evenly hit the entire color pie and play uniquely. Jeskai control also did well on the SCG circuit before the GRN pro tour. I think there is a strong chance the deck is teferi, a crapshoot of a mana base with some gates and some rares, that really isn't great at keeping up with the others without defening clarion for white, serrle the wreckage for golgari, and lava coil for drakes. Leaves very little room if you add dig spells.
Flip cards should be easy enough because landing is so obvious alongside pridemate and all blue decks benefit from search. You can just print sheets of flip cards if you correlate the numbers correctly with minimal asditional expense. They were doing flip tokens for lots of precons for awhile and no one batted an eye in regards expense. They are also iconic for the the Ixalan block.
I wonder if they might duck Golgari purely because the last batch had a Golgari deck - whether they're going to make a conscious effort to avoid printing the same color-combo in consecutive years' selections. Wonder if they might just do mono-G stompy instead.
It's an interesting question; last batch the decks were predominantly comprised of cards from the first half of the 'current standard season' - really the only noteworthy card from Ixalan block was a Settle the Wreckage, and the bulk of the relevant and rare cards were from Kaladesh-Amonkhet year assuring the decks would be decimated at the next rotation.
Would they print decks that are comprised so heavily of current-year cards that would survive the next rotation, or is it part of their business plan to always be preceding-year-heavy to assure the decks are needing wholesale replacement rather than tweaking the following year?
I hope Teferi's in one of them so I can pick up some more. I got mine at $13 (lol!) and I'm not paying $50 for another.

That's also my concern, but I hope this year's product will be a bit more in line with GRN Standard. In fact, last year's metagame was heavily balanced around KLD and AKH blocks, and less XLN cards than now were competitive; DOM cards like Teferi were already competitive, but DOM was too new to be inside the product, so I think that this time we could get a couple of decks (likely Drakes and Boros Weenie) that could be around 90% perfectly listed, except for the manabases... and Boros could easily have a nicer manabase since it is so cheap otherwise.
In fact, last year's metagame was heavily balanced around KLD and AKH blocks, and less XLN cards than now were competitive; DOM cards like Teferi were already competitive, but DOM was too new to be inside the product
Teferi wasn't 'already competitive', DOM wasn't even out yet. Last year's challenger decks came out three weeks before DOM.

My bad, probably because we already knew the card beacuse of the mega leak. That doesn't change the point on XLN very much though.
I could see them doing Boros-Agro-lifelink, URdrakes mixed with phoenix, Esper Teferi, and simic agro-midrange with hydroid krasis (for that i say they knew krasis was pushed and they pushed some other simic 2-3 drops like Gchamber guardian and they could put one Vanifar with one krasis and 3-4 of the guardian) I think it is safe to bet that they did not included the dfc from Ixalan rivals or if they did just search and adanto .
Idk it feels right that they would push an archetype just soo the decks could be sought after in release even with a recent released set and other in the making, think it would be easier to coordinate with the printing
Based on Gavin Verhey's comments on the Professor's video a couple weeks, there is a slim to none chance that any RNA cards will appear in these challenger decks because the quickest turnaround they could get with deck construction, testing, getting the cards printed, then shipping them out is around 3 months, and RNA has barely been out 1 month. We're lucky if there are just a few GRN cards included. According to Gavin, they are trying to get these challenger decks out to us as quick as they can so that they are as relevant as possible, but there is only so much they can do.
from what ive read they are just like the first challenger decks were based on competitive decks around a pro-tour. in the case for these decks that would be pro-tour GRN. also its safe to assume the 'value' reprints will be centered on cards that will rotate in the fall. this is why they push a faster turnaround on the product, because it gives those sets a bit of extra equity in their sunset in the standard environment.
some white weenie deck is pretty much a shoe-in with Ajani's Pridemate confirmed to be in one of the decks. at the time boros was popular, and so was just straight W. personally i also think a GB explore deck is a no-brainer since you hit cards like jadelight ranger, carnage tyrant, and vraska's contempt - which all fit the bill as expensive and rotating.
just consider the 'top' decks around that time: GB explore/midrange, boros heroic weenie, mono red frenzy, mono blue tempo, jeskai control, UR drakes/phoenix, boros angels, GW tokens, bant fog
then consider some key reprints they might wanna hit:
-history of benalia (wouldnt be surprised to see this as a 4-of in the white weenie deck)
-legion's landing
-ajani, adversary of tyrants
-check lands
-search for azcanta
-treasure map
-vraska's contempt
-jadelight ranger
-carnage tyrant
-rekindling phoenix
-lyra dawnbringer
-settle the wreckage/cleansing nova
-vivien reid
-vraska6
there should still be some reprints from GRN, but id expect much fewer rares/mythics and in lower numbers. so like 1 shock land, lava coil, niv mizzet, find/finality, aurelia, etc.
teferi is open to debate for inclusion in any of the decks. seems like the obvious 'chandra' of this set of challenger decks, but teferi floated a higher price point than chandra through his stay in standard thanks to ample demand from non-rotating formats (yeah i know chandra sees some play in red prison in modern/legacy). also building a jeskai control deck as a challenger deck is already difficult enough to balance value wise being 3-color; but i could see a 1-of teferi in a jeskai drake control deck as plausible maybe with an azor's gateway + banefire/expansion package in there.
what you absolutely should not expect is a 2-3 color deck based around mana-bases and cards from RNA.
