Drill Bit2B
Sorcery (UC)
Spectacle B
Target opponent reveals their hand. You choose a nonland card from it. That player discards that card. Never boring.
I had a hearty laugh at that flavor text. The flavor for Gruul and Rakdos this time around is impressing me when in both previous showcases they've fallen flat. Rakdos cards in particular are doing a great job of establishing a particular feel for the guild of anarchic, no-*****s-given, violent entertainment. Like if Lady Gaga were also a Cenobite but also Freddy Kreuger.
Standard is slow enough that we don't need this effect on turn 1. If you absolutely *must* have this effect on turn 1, though, we do have Duress, Divest, and Vicious Rumors. Ideally, on turn two you can use Rumors then Drill Bit, if you are in to that sort of thing.
Eh, it's ok I guess? I mean, what exactly would a spectacle deck want to take that duress wouldn't get? Lyra?
Probably won't see play as long as we have duress.

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring
The problem with this card in Modern is that, by Turn 3, Thoughtseize is often vaguely useless. So, even if you get Spectacle with this, it's kinda too late against aggro and some midrange.

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Rhys the Redeemed
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Sen Triplets
The Mimeoplasm WUBRGSliver OverlordGRBUW WUBRGSliver Hivelord(Superfriends)GRBUW
I'm super excited this for CanLander Black Mold. I much prefer dropping a 2/1 for 1 on T1, and then another 2/1 for 1 and this on T2 than having Thoughtseize on 1.

The flavor text is cute, but very obviously wrong.
Also, is this the only preview today?!
Why such a short week?
I think their standard spoiler schedule these days is 8 days. They start on a Monday and do full reveal the following Wednesday, with nothing or nearly nothing on weekends.
This spoiler season started on a Wednesday. I expect they’ll wrap next Friday.
Is it just me or does the guy look like he is 'laughing out loud' at the prospect of getting a drill in his head?
I noticed that. I think the blindfold is supposed to imply that he doesn't know what's about to happen. So he's being carried and is experiencing the thrill of being part of the spectacle without knowing exactly how much a part of the spectacle he is really about to become. Honestly, the flavor of this card is a home run. Paints a pretty damn dark picture of the violent hedonism of the Rakdos.
Boring sounds similar to bohren which is the german word for drilling^^. So for me the card is never "boring"
"Boring" actually means "drilling" in english, too. It's pretty funny because in Croatian we use a simmilar tool related verb to call something a bore - "pilanje" which is "sawing". Being a tool off somehow makes the flavor even funnier to me
Also, this isn't even bad in the right kind of deck. The kind which wants to avoid a wrath effect, say. The difference between duress and this is that this has the added potential of taking out a bomby finisher if there's no wrath to be picked out. Or, if played quickly, a blocker/stabilizer/catchup. On the upside. The mana difference is pretty dooooh.

"Masques Block is the worst block ever! There's not one decent card in there! The whole internet say's so, you're literally the only person who ever said it was good!" - random noob in a conversation with an Eldrazi.
This is fine turn two. Attack with a one drop you cast on turn one, or a Fanatical Firebrand. In fact, Firebrand makes achieving spectacle in any given turn almost trivial. As does Carnival // Carnage. Carnage a few turns after Drill Bit is solid, also.
I do not know enough about Standard to really assess the card for that, but it certainly seems... mediocre.
It is unplayable anywhere else.
Instant discard is rare for good reason, but this really feels like it needed that. As an instant, it would fill a slightly different niche, but be able to compete with Thoughtseize & Inquisition of Kozilek in Modern and eternal without being too strong; I personally would still favor Thoughtseize most times, as the turn 1 consistency is usually preferable.
Yeah, with the amount of shock lands in standard, I feel that instant speed would serve this spell much better. In fact I feel spectacle really would be a much more interesting mechanic if more of the spoiled cards could take advantage of opponent’s shocking themselves with their own lands.

They would have to use it before or during your main phase on your turn, which is certainly a corner case.
