Whoever guessed it would be based on an opponent losing life (or being damaged) was right. They ought to get a free mana of any colour the next time they play.

The art looks good and I'm glad to see a wider variety of demons. Spectacle seems good and not how I expected. I'm wondering if it will be used to reduce mana costs also, sort of like Prowl.

Protection from reason (Decadent_Creed can't be blocked, targeted, dealt damage, or enchanted by reason.)

instants with spectacle should be interesting, especially in any format with shocks and fetches

The answer to that is yes, as we have already seen one where the Spectacle cost is less (Light up the Stage). Just you don't get any added bonus effect for casting it with the Spectacle cost, at least on that card. But the reduced mana helps that card all the same.
I believe the answer is ‘Yes’, but, does Rakdos, Lord of Riots reduce the cost of Spectacle?
Well you are still casting the spell when you use the Spectacle cost, so yes Rakdos' cost reduction ability would reduce the cost of Spectacle. At least going on current rules interaction.
Now I'm starting to get excited for this set, can't wait to see what the other guilds get.
I'm waiting for the flash spectacle cards that you cast when an opponent pays life for a shockland. They probably didn't push the mechanic that far though

I was literally just thinking this! Bloodthirst, spectacle, and simic counters would be amazing. I hope its true and that there's a Zhur-Taa Druid reprint in this set.
Huh. I don’t hate it. I dont have a big enough data pool to work with, but it seems the non permanents with spectacle cost less and the permanents with it cost more but get an extra effect.
It is easy enough to trigger though since damage does cause you to lose life due to how game state works. The spectacle cost really determines how good the card is.
The common is over costed for a 4/2 vanilla body and is costed just right for five. Though your opponents might not have any card in hand by turn five.
R.M Reveler is a touch risky turn two since you still have cards in your hand then and may not really want to dump any of them. Turn four though you still get some value since you might drop less card than you draw.

With Spectacle worded the way it is I guess this means we won't be getting Bloodthirst for Gruul as both would care about the opponent losing life/being damaged for an effect.
In fact I hope that none of the other guilds in RNA get a returning mechanic. They messed Selesnya up with convoke. I see it as three Ravnica visits: three separate mechanics. Oh well...

I know we are just starting with the spoilers but am I the only one worried about spectacle being too nerfed, seeing how easy it is to damage an opponent especially in those colors

We got impulsive draw 2 until next turn for spectacle R. Doesn't seem too nerfed to me.

You’re not the only one. At the same time, we’ve seen some pushed stuff. It definitely seems like the mechanic could be eternal playable the way Revolt was, but there’s definitely concern they won’t push it hard enough the way Revolt wasn’t. abut Revolt brought us one of the most important cards in recent memory, so who knows. I will say there’s a boatload of design space for the mechanic, seeing alternate effects if the spectacle cost was paid.
I think everyone hoping for a Spectacle Lightning Bolt or stuff if similar power level is bound to be disappointed. That doesn't mean there won't be any interesting/powerful cards, if Light up the Stage is any indication.

Shocklands were specifically mentioned in the introduction video for the mechanic.
Mini bedlam reveler for 2 mana. Wowzee. Play if before combat to cycle lands early, draw three later. Looks like a modern burn staple to me. May be good enough for modern humans too.

Set looks good so far.
Techniquely you need to do the spectacle cost to get the bedlam reveler effect
Not sure if it’s power or toughness or number of tokens but looks like X 1/1 spirits or a X/X spirt token when the creature dies (I’m pretty sure it’s tokens though)
Maybe we'll get a pushed Murder effect with Spectacle for B? That would be p cool.
I think you're a little too optimistic there. Since Fog effects are pretty thin in sets anymore, pinging for Spectacle is not at all difficult, and therefore at best it'll be Spectacle-cost either 1B or (and I suspect this) BB.

Spectacle is an alt cost based on the proposed "paincast" mechanic - you can cast it for that cast if an opponent lost life this turn
