If this keeps up I might have been wrong about saying that most afterlife cards other than Tithe Taker will be slightly overcosted. We now have two afterlife two drops with on-curve stats and a little upside. If this keeps up W/x weenie is going to be very resilient considering these, Martyr of Dusk, Hunted Witness, Dauntless Bodyguard, and Adanto Vanguard .

Waiting for some high costed enchantment that grants your creatures Afterlife.
I'm thinking more like an Angel. Something in the vein of Angel of Invention. Something like:
Nontoken creatures you control have Afterlife 1
Token creatures you control get +1/+1
(Any effect that gives *all* your creatures afterlife, without some nontoken or nonspirit rider, would be bonkers - add any sac engine and that's unlimited saccables).

Seriously, I don't think it would be too powerful. If your opponent has a creature you want to murder, they often have a potential blocker. If you're reliant on having to be able to attack and deal damage before you can go ahead and kill their creature that might be the very reason you're unable to attack and deal damage, that's a pretty big limitation.
The question is, how would they cost the nonspectacle mode? It can't be so efficient that the card is worth playing even if you're not spectacling.

There are creatures that provide utility that you don't want to block with that your opponent absolutely wants to remove (jace, vryn's prodigy, grim lavamancer, etc). Not sure how many are in standard or will be after the set drops but I often swing in to make my opponent chump just remove those annoying weaker utility guys.
Dodging Edicts in Pauper could be decent. Pauper Pestilence decks may want to take a look.

Maybe we'll get a pushed Murder effect with Spectacle for B? That would be p cool.
I think you're a little too optimistic there. Since Fog effects are pretty thin in sets anymore, pinging for Spectacle is not at all difficult, and therefore at best it'll be Spectacle-cost either 1B or (and I suspect this) BB.
Fogs were kinda annoying, made the game take longer, and little else back in the day. Of course MaRo's going to make them rarer.
BTW, I like how their cards with afterlife show the difference between a common and a rare. Though calling the common "oligarch"? Someone needs to explain oligarchy to Wizards.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
I don't think she did anything yet? That Flavor text is current tense which means the Obzedat has power still, and "protecting the rights of ghosts." seems a real good PR phrase for "Protecting the rights of the Obzedat."
For limited, the black afterlife cards will be great as spectacle enablers in Rakdos, and the black spectacle cards will be very easy turn on in Orzhov. BW splash R and/or BR splash W will probably be common. This synergy overlap between neighbour guilds is very good game design.
Edit: I'm going to guess that the order they will reveal the final three guilds will be WU today, then UG, then GR, to highlight synergies between the guild mechanics.
I like the design of afterlife, even it is a bit "boring" or simple compared to the limited tax effect I was expecting.
There is room for tokens to have afterlife as well, which is nice, and it isn't technically limited to creatures (i.e. an enchantment presided over by a spirit who can enter combat when the enchantment is destroyed). Doubt they will fully explore this mechanic since design tends to be more linear/pre-solved these days.

Latest proof this forum is a trashfire:
Your authoritarianism will be the reason the company suffers another 60M in losses.
Overall the mechanic is just a TERRIBLE form of "kicker" with more restriction on when to cast it and the cards are overall fairly weak so far.
Doesnt look great, its just not a "spectacle" at all, more a boring toddlers birthday party.
I don't think the Spectacle cards we've seen so far are bad. Light Up the Stage and Rix Maadi Reveler both are aggro refueling cards and I wouldn't be unhappy to have a Rafter Demon in draft.
Sure, there is a chance of spending $4 on a booster and getting the Mythic Rare $30 super card. There is also a chance of surviving putting your tongue in a light socket.
Dodging Edicts in Pauper could be decent. Pauper Pestilence decks may want to take a look.
Is there a way to do multiple Pestilence activations in a a turn that wouldn't also kill the afterlife tokens?
I don't think so but I was thinking more along the lines of this being cast 2nd main phase, after a "wipe" and basically blanking any removal spell from black or red from the opponent to keep Pestilence up.
Also some times 1 activation of Pestilence is enough to wreak havoc on several decks as well. Goblins, White weenie, Elves, token decks. Plus the token dodges Doom Blade as well. I think this new card will find a home somewhere, where others like Doomed Traveler have not.

That and an unconditional Tutor effect too. But I doubt the second one.

You're right. Only two out of the past two standard sets have had a common Fog. (Root Snare, Pause for Reflection).
