So some of the guilds are getting ascendancy (which looks immediately intimidating in Pyr/Toothy commander decks). The mortify looks amazing, growth spiral seems perfect and fun, and that vampire is a solid casual pick (potentially even constructed depending on meta). Now we just need to know what spectacle does before we think that shenanigans through lol
*edit* also think the rakdos uncommon is an absolute bomb.
And speaking of Dominaria, Haunt of Hightower is another attack-to-make discard for 6 mana: I'm not a fan of those.
NB that unlike Dominaria's Urgoros, The Haunt of Hightower doesn't need to connect to make op discard - it's just an attack trigger. I'm not saying that makes it amazing, but it's definitely way better, and if there's some discard synergy, who knows?
Wow. That Rakdos cardcis going to be an absolute house in draft. Easy 2 for 1 plus chip damagecat a great rate. The black flier will play out better than it looks, and iæI still feel that the similar card in Dominaria was underrated. 3 toughness will keep it out of constructed. Simic Ascendancy is hilariously bad - the alt win is nearly impossible to pull off, and the counter adding ability is not enough to carry the card on its own. Can you imsgine a game where you add 20 +1/+1 counters and still need another wincon? Is it an EDH thing? I like Ascendancy cards though, I hope it's a cycle. Mortify is a cool reprint, but it makes my Experimental Frenzy deck very sad. If BW is a color pair for Standard, it could be a new Abrade, making the whole card type less viable. Lastly, the UG instant looks ok, not great. Exploration type cards are almost always worse than they look, so... Uh, how much do you want a 2 mana cantrip?
Firewheeler feels like the new Flametongue Kavu, lots of two toughness creatures to hit.
The Haunt is not bad, in fact it might be really good. The fact it grows as cards are played from your opponent, grows when attacking, and has lifelink means it is a must kill creature before long.
Growth Spiral is just Explore.
Mortify is always a good reprint. Simic Ascendancy is great in commander, a way to pump up creatures while being an alternate win con itself is a nice double threat.
The Haunt of Hightower is an interesting card. It's only the second card to feature the Vulturous Zombie ability, and the discard and lifelink go a long way. I may put it in my cube over something generic like Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis just because of how many interactions is brings.
Growth spiral is a bit better than explore. It reduces the chances of “whiffing” by drawing the card first.
Also, the instant speed sounds kinda huge. Turbo fog can leave their mana open for counters/tricks and dig/ramp EoT if they have spare mana.
Instant speed makes a big difference, but Explore's effect lasts until end of turn, so it doesn't whiff any more than Growth Spiral. Basically it's just a trade of 1G for UG and sorcery for instant.
Growth Spiral looks to be at common. Pauper Tron may want this.

I guess the Camaraderie as many have especulated was suposed to be a part of a ascendancy cycle
Any guesses on how Spectacle works? My guess is a hellbent like alternative cost where you only get to play it for the reduced cost if its the only card in hand.

IMO it is a alternative cost once damage is dealt to a oponent or a kind of Morbid.
From thos spoilers we know that the AABB creature for Rakdos does not have spectacle. From guilds we had Izzet: C Drake, it counts magics in graveyard and exile: jumpstart will always make it big.
Dimir does not have surveil, in fact it don't even suport the mechanic.
Selesnya: creates tokens that helps paying for convoke
Boros: has mentor
Golgari: returns a card from graveyard, helps with the self mill subtheme.
We can see the Rakdos RRBB uncommon creature has a ability to deal damage to a oponent once it etb and maybe deal damage to a creature. imo the guild ability has something about with this etb ability.
I'll put my bet on growth spiral being a major player in a lands build for modern hell legacy potentially for budget depths players. Instant speed drag play any land is a big deal and can be game changing in the right builds.
In GOR, for each guild, we got:
-1 Mythic Legend
-1 Rare Legend
-1 Mythic NonLegend
-1 Rare Creature (except Izzet, which got an enchantment instead)
-1 Rare Noncreature
and
-1 Rare Hybrid/Split.
For a total of 6 rares/mythics for each guild.
Simic Ascendancy implies a cycle of Ascendancies for each guild. Given that this set already has fewer guild rares/mythics than RTR/GTC and, in some cases, RAV block, will this rare cycle further limit the number of non-cyclical rares each guild gets? Will they take the spot of the noncreature rares? Or will they just be extra guild rares in addition to the six rares each guild already gets?
Either way, it'll either be disappointing because they take up slots that other unique rares could have had, or it'll be disappointing and aesthetically displeasing because the first five guilds got fewer rares. It's already displeasing that the first five guilds didn't get ascendancies.
Good, that's a super annoying and uninteractive mechanic to play against. He's a little expensive though, they will already have surveiled about 3-5 times by then.
That Rakdos double-Shock dude looks spicy as well, nice to see, Can't wait to see the Gruul additions!

That makes sense, especially considering Rakdos, Lord of Riots. I just hope new Rakdos (demon) is more focused this time around. I don't want to bash him too much for those who like him, but to me, I couldn't decide if he wanted me to play big creatures or burn. Imo, it's awkward. I could really get into a burn deck that rewards you for burning if its done right
The Haunt of Hightower. The obvious is this benefits from putting the opponent's library into the graveyard for a quick high counter buff. Glimpse the Unthinkable for 10 counters.
It would also do fine in multi-player games since so many cards will go to the graveyard over the course of the game.
My mind put a comma into Rakdos Firewheeler and I thought we'd get to see the guild leader. I was quite confused about the lack of flying and also why the big evil Demon turned into a 4/3 Human Rogue. Everything is fine now.
Neat cards. The instant speed Explore variant is easily my favorite. At two mana it is definitely well-situated.

[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
Well, my favorite guild just got a few good cards spoiled, so I'm happy! Growth Spiral is neither definitely better nor worse than Explore, but the instant speed is a huge plus. Had quite a few games already in which I really wanted to be able to use an Explore-like effect on my opponents turn. Simic Ascendancy is an even better alt-win condition for Simic than Biovisionary and I love it... and yet I'm still ambivalent about the card in general. Atraxa, Praetors' Voice EDH decks are already really annoying to play against and this card seems to be made for absolutely bogus shenanigans with this deck. Other than that, great card.
Hope Simic also gets such a great four colored mana cost card as Rakdos (and quite frankly every guild so far) has gotten, I really love their designs. Mortify is just good removal, and I like it just as much here as I did in the original Ravnica.
Some very interesting cards here
