Just wonder when wizards will start to make non human-elf-merfolk(human like) walkers and do some walkers of other races, you know, the other 30+ out of 33+ fantasy races....
Yes, i want a Cephalid walker
I mean WOTC barely has Elf Walkers who are basically humans with pointed ears so if we cannot get more then one of the nearest of nearhuman walkers the chances for moving beyond that is limited.
Maybe Davriel will finally be the sultai planeswalker I have been hoping for. Masks, politics, and demon consorting all seems very Sultai to me. Plus he kinda gives off a more refined Tasigur vibe.
Sanderson: A lot of their Planeswalker designs do a good job of evoking who the character is, simply through use of mechanics. So a Davriel who is able to steal other people’s cards and use them in unexpected ways would be something awesome to see.
I was waiting for someone to say that because it's so on the nose in the art lol
The first chapter of his story was already a much better read than the vast majority of Magic lore in recent memory. Now I'm just chomping at the bit for the rest of the story which is supposed to be released today...

The style of this art plus that of the promo card with spectacle that the focus of this set will be that of a bloody play in hyper-tragedy about to unravel before our eyes. Perfect Rakdos style.
(Maybe this is what Mercadian Masques should've looked like to make up for the drop in power level compared to Urza's Saga.)

Davriel would not premier in the same set as the Rakdos card you refer to. We know the planeswalkers from the next set and Davriel is not one of them. Though it's hard to tell how soon we'll meet Davriel his story apparently is not set on Ravnica either, but on Innistrad, right? Not that a "bloody play in hyper-tragedy" does not have a nice ring to it...

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

I mean I don't know seems replace one letter with two letters to me but I only know English and some French.
So Daniel to Davriel.
He looks BU to me as well. Black well Violet is mainly associated with Black.
Gabriel's original version in Hebrew is Gavriel, and of course that's an angelic name.
Yep. I didn't even think of Daniel. My first thought was Gavriel/Gabriel/Jibril.
Obviously they do this with angels already (Tariel and Razia being Sariel and Raziel), but still...
Anyway, stealing things and finding new uses for them. Sounds UR to me, but that artwork says to add B.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

After reading about 33% of the story, here's what I see:
Davriel Cane - 3UB - 4 Loyalty
+1: Create a 3/3 Demon creature token with flying.
-X: Look at target player's hand. You may cast an instant or sorcery card with converted mana cost X or less from it without paying its mana cost.
Not sure about ultimate... Maybe by the time I finish the story something will come up...
Storywise, it makes a lot of sense for them to have a Demon-hunter PW because I see Ob Nixilis as one of the obvious next problems after Bolas and Phyrexia. Also if/when Bolas goes down, our resident UB walker will be gone was well (I know, there is Ashiok... We're still losing Tez).
No way a +1 ability is making 3/3 flyer even at 3UB. Theirs a reason PW’s that make mid+ stat flyers are always minus abilities, because flooding the battlefield with free mid stat flyers is overpowered. Not only that but this guys goes up to five loyalty with a good blocker and then just keeps ticking up loyalty while constantly putting a threat on the board....for free....every turn.

why do wizards insist on making all the walkers these young douchebag looking types? like, every single walker is just some young moron with tribal tattoos. its actually vomit inducing, worse character designs ever. remember when mtg actually had real wizards in it? yeah me neither.

Middle aged douchebag, actually. He's 49. (In story his deal with Crunchgnar is to live till he's 65 without dying. At one point Crunchy states that is 16 years away, thus Davriel is 49.)
the tattoos was a generalization (obviously), i was talking about the other walkers and the general state of magics characters and aesthetic. its awful. its like every character is designed primarily for cosplay potential.
and i said "young douchebag LOOKING types", my point is they look like young douchebags, i dont care what his age is in the storyline.
the anger is not misplaced, magic looks like trash now because they are desperately trying to market to a younger audience rather than building real fantasy settings.
i mean just think about it man, not a single planeswalker in MTG actually looks like Gandalf. do you think this is ok? it is NOT ok.

Teferi is pretty classical wizard looking, Arlinn, Estrid and Jaya are also more mature aged characters.

In your apparent opinion.
Which I disagree with.
I'm not saying that there SHOULDN'T be tolkien-esque Galndalf type planeswalkers, sure make one or even a several (though I agree with many of these forums that they really should do more NON-human walkers). But to label all of Magic characterization and aesthetics as somehow terrible because there aren't any is frankly hyperbolic.
You know, the action in the book kinda sucked, but overall I like this man very much, he is okay and has its moments.
"I don't keep up on local fashions," said the Man from his seat. "I know they're very fond of buckles. And collars. I swear, I saw a fellow the other day with a collar so high, his hat rested on it rather than touching his head."

Also, he's not mentioned as having any tattoos?
The anger seems a bit misplaced here.
I think he's sort of like Doctor Strange: He's supposed to be middle-aged, but he looks like he's in his 30s. Actually, he looks a bit like Strange. So, another "benevolent chessmaster who never tells his pawns more than they need to know and ends up looking like a douchebag as a result" planeswalker. That's...great.
