From the cover of the novel we knew she would be there and it was pretty clear she would get rid of the ghost council, but that she would take over was still unclear, nice to see a confirmation.
The question is in which direction will she steer the guild? Unlike Dovin Baan she does not seem to fit into the guild she is taking over.

Do you think she will kill al the Obzedat? They are like 6 after all, maybe someone survived?
If somebody survived - Uncle Karlov being the prime suspect - that would be a plot hook. Hmm. It would also be ironic considering he would probably be the one Teysa would want to bump off the most.
Ooh look, another Neo-Walker killing old established characters that where previously undeafetable just so wtc can shove more walkers down our throats! Yes, these neo-walkers sure are just like any other wizards.

Glad someone else said it for me this time. I've been loudly criticizing this trend, and yet it appears to be here to stay.
Since Kaya is literally a ghost buster I think it's safe to assume that at least some of the Obzedat members will die, but there are still a number of configurations in which she could be considered the "guild leader" after the coup without simply being the new boss that everyone has no choice but to obey because she's just too powerful (see Ral's case). I think she'll only be able to hold onto her new position because of Bolas's support and the tacit approval of other groups in the Orzhov who view her as an opportune figurehead in turbulent times (Kaya has to deal with the problems and dangers of being a leader while they can prepare long term strategies and stay in the shadows). We see her along Gideon and Chandra on the cover of the Ravnica book - her reign will be short-lived, and I bet Teysa is going to take the guild leader post after her.
Do you think she will kill al the Obzedat? They are like 6 after all, maybe someone survived?
For after the battle with Bolas I think it would be cleaner to have all the Obzedat killed and with Kaya off with the Gatewatch, Tesya finally claiming guild master. It also adds some more tension since its unknown if Jared is truly dead and Niv is just off somewhere else so the number of dead guild master so far is 1.
I really can't wait to see how Tesya and Kaya interact, Kaya gets rid of the Obzedat like Teysa wanted but presumably Kaya takes over which Tesya won't like.
I also think Kaya is from Ravnica and an Orzhov noble family.

Unless there’s something from the original Ravnica block that indicates otherwise I don’t think the Obzedat was ever previously undefeatable. And they’re literally bringing in someone who’s power set is incredibly specific for this exact task. Get over yourself.

They made it a point that the Obzedat was near untouchable during the last block.
But very well, say this assassin that stabs ghosts whalzes in and kills off the Obzedat. Why would she lead the guild other than wotc's wills? All the other nobility simply stop their plotting and withdraw their aristocratic and bureacratic rights simply because their current leader is dead? I don't think so. Oh Bolas secured a place for her? Did he kill half the guild or something?
There is no way that the Orzhov would accept a stranger, with no ties to them, as their leader. Except when wotc sees a way to shove some more walkers down our throats by supplanting/beating excisting lore or figures.

I mean, they just ruthlessly governed for 10k or even more years, sure they aren't frail.
With Brago, things went like this:
- Brago is untouchable mostly because he's a ghost
- Kaya shows up, she can kill ghosts
- Brago is screwed
but really, the Obzedat have no tricks in their sleeve besides being ghosts? They are not skilled magicians or something like that? They can't use their numbers to stand against a human with a knife?
If they all die with a stab, that will be extremely disappointing.
You kinda said it much of the Obzedat being untouchable is due to being ghosts and probity having powerful magic to keep them bound to Ravnica (much like Brago). They can revoke membership of each other so this was a way to banish them. But with the themes of the guild makes sense the powerful members are simply the riches, not the most skilled or best leaders. They have law and contact magic but not sure if they could work on Kaya and since she can walk through walls their guards are also useless.
By the way, why does everyone think Jarad is alive? Why would Vraska spare him? Especially pre-Jace Vraska.
They haven't showed him being killed in a card and last we saw in the story Vraska was info by Bolas Jared had been captured. And as a mapper character I find it odd they don't have a card showing his death (unless Vraska, Golgari Queen is meant to symbolize that). As Vraska is poetic I could see her imprisoning Jarad like he had done to the gorgons.
EDIT: Also guild master in the card cycle (which Kaya is going to be) and guild master in the story can be differnt. Niv for example is alive and Ral is taking over but is considered acting guild master. While Kaya might kill the Obzedat and take over a part of the guild, how much power she hold (and for how long) could just make her a guild master in title only.

The only way Obzedat has been made to look untouchable since the last block is that they have a room in which they are immune to the power of the guildpact. A thing that, prior to being a guild leader, Kaya wouldn’t give a good god damn about. And as for “Bolas made a place for her” why is that acceptable for Vraska and the Golgaei but not for the Orzhov? There’s similar plotting amongst immortals in both guilds.
The only thing I hope is that we get to see these things unfold. Did Vraska just waltze into Jarad’s place and petrify him or what? Same with Kaya and the Orzhov. Who hired her? Was it Bolas? Was it a high ranking member manipulated by Bolas? We know Bolas can shapeshift. Maybe he IS a high ranking Orzhov member that has been pushing others to the guild leader position for millennia while puppeteering them from the shadows.
Just quit your *****ing until you know the details instead of assuming you don’t like them. I mean it’s almost like you people don’t like the story but read it anyway just so you can go around talking about how much you hate it.
I hope the reason she's hanging with Gideon next set is not that she had a change of heart and saw the error of her ways, but because it's the only way she can survive the Orzhov backstabbing after Bolas closes the plane with the Immortal Sun.

The Orzhov were just mortal and spiritual extortionists. Like an undead mafia, basically. They only 'helped' the people that came to them in order to empower themselves.
Kaya, on the other hand, sounds like she'll be more interested in helping the community through Black means - taking power from sources outside the guild to benefit it. Like the Orzhov verison of Robin Hood, I guess. And of course, from a political standpoint, returning stolen power to the exploited from the exploiters at the top is pretty smart.

Did Dack and Kaya interact during Conspiracy?
Kaya likes getting paid and putting Tyrants in Power apparently. I wonder if she and Tesya will be BFFs or bitter enemies.
