yeah but look at the value in the set. i have to believe the EV per box is higher than previous sets, even with the higher cost. then add on the promos (which will be extremely scarce with 40 potentials).
we will have to see the rarity on all the cards to see for sure though.
Value in the set? It costs the same for wizards to print a Grizzly Bears as to print Karn. The other Master Sets shouldn't have costed 10 dollars a pack. not everyone cana fford to get those promo foils so increasing the price of product jsut because of those is ridiculous from my point of view.
The paint and canvas of the Mona Lisa also isn't worth Millions. Money is just paper yaddy yadda...welcome to capitalism.
Comparing a old painting with cards. I'm open to changing my opinion but your comment din't help at all as to how ilogical it was.
Yes, comparing canvas with paint to cardboard with paint. Silly me, how illogical.
Yes it is silly of you. Please pick a diferent a valed comparison to prove your point. Please tell me why shouldn't a normal customer be pissed at this? Those Iconic and 25 Master products msut have sold well for them to be this confident.

You can be pissed all you want and I agree with you to an extent but saying "there's no value in the set" is ridiculous.
It's not bad so far, although I will say they've reprinted the hell out of Faerie stuff already, why does every one of these sets have a V Clique or Bitterblossom in it? And Dark Depths already crashed from the FTV Lore reprint, so I am confused. Otherwise, this set seems pretty fair, I'll have to see the remaining cards to be sure, but so far looks good. I'm excited to try and get the new Demonic Tutor and maybe the new Bitterblossom for its art. Hopefully there are interesting Blue cards in this. Snap and Temporal are good, but there's a lot of Blue in need of reprinting.
"Let's start with the big news—yes, we're shelving the Masters series for the foreseeable future. We are instead focusing on other products that will also include reprints."
Why has no one mentioned the fact that there will be no more master series????
Now the price of Modern and Legacy will go shooting through the roof! It's like they don't want people playing modern, it was the most requested product series they have ever made and their best seller. Now they are shelving it because they want to focus on other products that they have no idea how they'll sell? Why not shelve commander decks, Conspiracy-like products or even the Spellbooks? I can't be the only one upset that they decided to destroy the only product that made modern playable for the kids. Sorry Timmy you can't play modern anymore cause wizards won't reprint those cards you need, so you'd either have to wait till your old enough and take out a mortgage for your deck or play standard.
Nobody's making a fuss because they expected this.
WoTC is ending the Masters product line, not modern/legacy reprints altogether. Doomsaying over the end of a product with a decidedly troubled history is premature.
I'm not sure how the price will translate to in Canada. Holy cow. Probably well over 400. I know there's obvious value, but how many Mikaeus do you need to open before weeping? Make you wonder how Wizards is reading these forums. "We have heard you wanted more shinies with a higher price. Here you go."
Get rid of topper, get rid of guaranteed foil. Set pack price at 8$. That would have been a great final set.
Instead, they banked on this being a final set, so they know there will be people being it regardless. The worse part is that the EV is probably there, but only because modern prices will not fall and thus Karn, Snappy and hierarch will still float the box value. Another set that won't bulge modern's high prices.
The only thing that is ridiculous regarding this set is the comments and attempts to justify intellectual property price based on costs. I will remind you that any personal copy of music you listen or game you play costs literally zero to be delivered to you; yet you pay for it.
If you think that $300 is too much - well, guess what, just don't buy it. Whining about that is like going to Lamborghini forum and spending a day complaining that you cannot afford one.
There are 14 other cards in the pack, and this is virtually guaranteed to have one foil per pack.
If they put a high amount of playable staples it will be fine. I'll gladly pay $16-$18 CDN for one pack to get something I can just flip for value, etc.
It will be fine.

THE EV IS NOT THE PROBLEM. The health of the Modern format is the problem! If you guys are looking for 8 Whales sitting at a table to be the entirety of a GP, great! We'll watch it on Twitch, I guess, because even though I've done quite well in multiple Modern tournaments, I'm not going to keep dumping money into it if prices just go soaring as the supply fails to meet demand! If you want Modern to just be Legacy 2.0, this is how that happens.
People are angry because Wizards is essentially saying, "We're killing Legacy and turning Modern into Legacy 2.0, and we're going to try and make as much money off of you as we can while we do that." Modern players have been looking to make the format more approachable for newer players, and UMA does nothing to help with that. We're not running excel sheets to see how much money we can make off the newest Modern set; we're hoping it will drive down prices so we can try out more decks, or experiment with decks we've been previously unable to afford. I want my wife to be able to play her own style of deck; I want some of my friends to see if Modern is fun for them.
But no, GP "8 Whales" Madrid is apparently the future of the format now.

Sure, you are free to do this.
But don't be surprised if one day your favorite author stops to write books, your favorite artist stops to produce music, and Wizards stop to support Magic.
You know, WotC is not a non-profit charity, and game designers want to eat as well. At least until we teach AI to design new MTG sets and lore.
$336 per box? Nevermind, not buying. Well, more like can't buy. If thy'd announced it further from the release date, I'd have maybe tried to scrounge something together, but with Christmas followed by Ravnica Allegience followed by how much I'll owe on my income taxes...*sigh*
I get what you're saying. They can reprint Modern staples in stuff like Battlebond and so on as well.
Unfortunately, Booster delivery is their preferred mode, so unless Modern Event Decks return, it's going to be a recessive format.
I absolutely empathize as I dip my feet into Modern every few years, and my preferred deck is $800 or so, which isn't a small amount. In this case though perhaps they'll add Modern to Magic Arena, or just trickle stuff back into Standard. It's not great, but this is where we are.

I think I've learned to treat Magic cards like baseball cards: keep 'em in a binder in numerical order, don't play with 'em, try to finish the set and just keep my head down.

i get that some people wish wizards would flood the market and stamp down prices in a serious way, but its just an unrealistic expectation.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind the price hike as much if they actually printed enough of the set to get a significant quantity of cards into circulation to lower prices for some of the singles. But, of course, it's a super limited print run like all the other masters sets.
There are going to have to be a lot of staple commons and uncommons for me to even think of popping down that much money for a booster. Lightning Bolt, Preordain, Fatal Push, etc.

Well there goes all my good willing to buy wotc products. Just have to keep playing kitchentable with my old cards and friends like the past 2 years . Tried to play standard this year but the quality of the meta wasnt that good for me.
If people want to save tremendous amounts of money, they simply put their money into ALTERNATE arts of their choice, can even make wishes what they want to have special on the cards.
However, these are as inflated as it gets and WotC is just pushing the prices even harder.
The bunch of failed master pieces that are worth pretty much nothing are quite the downer and will ensure the lottery of this product.
If all the possible cards would have been expensive, it would be less brutal (but here its either +300 or +5 $ , which is by any stretch quite significant).

If i am concerned this is the kind of cards they should give away to players regularly for playing tournaments.
Play 10+ tournaments, get a pack of these ; that will give players that actually play tournaments the cards they need to play and get more cards into circulation while boosting tournament attendance.
This however is a quick and dirty cash grab , people will buy this product up, sit on it and sell it for double the price.
