Is that the first new border LoA? It only being available in foil is going to drive some people nuts, I´m sure a lot of Modern Merfolk players have been waiting for a new border LoA for a long time for consistency reasons, and for those that don´t like foils (which is more people than you might think), this is not it.
It also kind of sucks to make a promo that is a guaranteed 4-of in any deck that plays it. But eh, it´s a playable card at least, not a fringe EDH card like certain other Judge promos.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
It's not the first foil for Lord of Atlantis. It was a timeshifted "purple" rare in Time Spiral and thus had it available in foil.
7th Edition was foil and there was a JSS foil as well. The point wasn't that it is the first foil; the point is that it is the first foil in the new border (which the Timeshifted cards were not).
I personally like foils, but for people that want a non-foil Lord in the new border, it is kind of disappointing.
In any case, I am really excited about the Teferi's Protection foil. I will be picking up at least 2 for a couple of decks. It is nice when they come out with cards in the Judge promos that had no foil printing prior to this. It makes it available for those of us that want them as well as providing a unique card for the judge program.
The minute I saw Teferi's Protection previewed back in the day I knew there was going to be a high probability it would be a judge foil in about a year or two, so I held out and refused to get one (its pricing certainly helped) and today I'm proven correct. Going to have to keep an out for it now.

Does judge promo usually promote a price drop? I thought it was generally not enough printed to warrant a price change, but I havent paid that much attention.

Lord of Atlantis is an interesting choice! So glad they made it. I feel like the art could have been more vibrant though. It's still good. I don't say this often but I think I prefer the original art more haha

After Ixalan's merfolk, i'm always dissatisfied with them. Ixalan ones were so colorful....
My favorite Merfolk art is Kiora's Follower from BNG, but I agree the Ixalan ones were gorgeous too. Where are the vibrant corals and turquoise waters? The whole dreary slate blue look is pretty tired IMO. Theros, Zendikar and Ixalan really deliver on that balmy beach and sea look that I love for such worlds. This palette is more fitting for a seaside Innistrad geist than Lord of Atlantis.
That LoA is gorgeous, and not a bad throw-in to Commander and Legacy players with that Teferi's Protection.

Nope, they seldom do (I'm not going to check actual statistics, but they generally don't but there might be a few that did based on sheer probability based on the number of promos of the past combined). I just have a policy of not buying a nonfoil version of a card I want for EDH (which I want to foil out) to save myself the effort of having to re-sell the nonfoil once I acquire the foil. Cards like Protection are especially difficult to move since chances anyone who wanted one and is willing to pay likely acquired theirs already. The reason I cited the price was if it was a cheap dollar rare I could potentially write it off as a loss for the year or two earlier I got to play with it, but when it comes to the pricey ones you have to shave off much more than a dollar to move the card off quickly, so it becomes either a tedious effort to find a buyer at the same/slightly cheaper price or to sell it off at a substantial loss. Sure in reality I'm in no hurry to sell it off, but I'm also in the general process of minimizing the excess chaff I want to sell off (so I have to cut down on acquisition rate since I'm pretty patient and fine with a slow selling rate).
I wonder if the near-identical shots were intentional?

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Only if the card is really tough to get. Look at Imperial Seal, Imperial Recruiter, and others like that. They make a dent. For a card like LoA, it's been printed so many times that a judge promo will hardly increase the qty there is out there.

Wait, teferi's protection get a flavo test? Zhalfir may return? Wasn't it lost forever?
Retconretconretcon because teferi is popular?
I feel like the flavor text is concurrent with Teferi phasing out Zhalfir, not him saying it in modern-day. So as he's phasing it out to protect it from Phyrexia, I'm sure he's pretty hopeful he can bring it back, not knowing he will give his spark to heal a different rift.
