Kraul Harpooner is that special kind of card where wizards just slides right past the power curve and really pushes the heck out of something in hopes of it seeing play. Last seen in those numbers on Avatar of the Resolute, which had trample in addition to reach. Maybe there was some kind of oppressive flier problem in future future league? But the ability to both shoot down a flier and be a 3/2 reach essentially makes the undergrowth ability a very roundabout way to accomplish a split card creature/sorcery with plummet. And if its shooting down a 1/1 spirit token, it survives that combat. Or you can use it with whatever combat trick I guess. But all it takes is 2 creatures in your graveyard and this is already big enough to shoot down a 5/5 angel, and its 2 toughness means it generally won't survive shooting down any relevant creatures without dying, and without built in haste or flash that +x/+0 until EoT goes away, so its a pretty odd design to have it go through all those steps only to be a glorified plummet.

In limited at least, I'd say taking down Roc Charger and Healing Hawk and not dying will be relevant.
also that's only the 2nd troll (inb4 changeling) that doesn't have any form of 'regeneration' or similar self-protecting ability. Of the 27 other trolls in magic (masterful ninja not included), 25 have regenerate, 1 has persist, and the only oddball out is Harvester Troll. Maro even said on his blog that they were turning regenerate into 'gain indestructible until eot', but this is the 2nd troll to oddly skip that template and just add +1/+1 counters to itself.
Dunno how to feel about the troll. It simultaneously enables Undergrowth while also taxing it. I don't understand why they would do that.
Undercity revolt is a card I would have loved to see at something other than common so that maybe it could be an instant or cost one less. Granted, I understand that Golgari got assassin's trophy, but I've been underwhelmed by a lot of their other cards.

It's also the first troll we've gotten since Oath of the Gatewatch. I would expect more like this with regenerate gone.
The Charnel Troll is definitely an aggro creature just like Lathnu Hellion was--a 4/4 for 3 mana whose only purpose is to swing once or twice before going away.
Undercity Revolt is mostly for Limited, but I still love the design. Can be used as a pseudo-Bone Splinters and still gives your remaining guys an extra oomph to make blocks extra painful. Definitely another solid Limited all-star.
Kraul Harpooner seems like a very good Plummet variant. Has a very relevant body, ups your Undergrowth count and can take down 1 power fliers and stay on the field. The downside is, of course, it's a bit harder to take huge flying beaters like Doom Whisperer, but then again if you're facing Doom Whisperer you have other problems to worry about. Could easily see Constructed play.
Troll seems like a fun build-around-me, but sadly it clashes with the whole Undergrowth mechanic, and seems only decent in Limited due to the high risk involved. We have the tools to make it work in Standard, so who knows.
Troll seems really bad power-level-wise.
Even if you jump through the hoop of having a creature in your bin and discard a card on turn 4, which means its consuming resources of -1 CA, -1 'relevant card in bin' and -2 mana on turn 4, all you're doing is swinging with a 6/6 trample, 7/7 if you discard two cards. And all that is blown out by any removal, let alone instant speed removal like trophy after you dump resources into it (at least you can hold out on that until before combat damage). So all you're getting for investing resources is an oversized beater. But you could have just played steel leaf champion and attacked for 5 evasive power on turn 4. If you wanted to dump resources, we've had cards like nantuko shade that can swing as a 5/4 and 6/5 on turn 3/4, far faster. And at least that's not eating cards to stay alive and dying if you can't pay on any given turn.
Charnel Troll Looks like a villain who'd appear in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Golgari, I guess in a way is like that show where cast out would hide and revolt.
That Kraul is obsoleting the ery concept of a bear. Interesting to have "up to one target" and "may have deal damage" on the same effect. That's one more click than I'd expected.
Am I the only one who would rather see "totenwelt" as the mechanic name rather than "undergrowth"?
Considering how horrible many of the literal translations into German end up being, I cannot believe it finally happened. I just wanted to point out the very same. A job well done.
