Could this be a thing in modern with Selective Memory? Run a bunch of Opt-type effects, power this out turn 3 with Simian Spirit Guide, then play Selective Memory next turn exiling twenty instants/sorceries and one-shot the other guy?
Counting exiled cards is a huge upgrade for EDH. Adding the exile zone makes this work wonderfully with Dig Through Time, Mizzix's Mastery, and graveyard hate. Tacking on the cantrip is hugely relevant in EDH, too, because you can't expect your creatures will get to hang around for long. Well, at least at my table. I'm definitely giving this some run in my Izzet-themed Melek, Izzet Paragon deck.
Ain't immune to that disgusting four-coloured-mana CC, though.
This cycle of XXYY cards indicate a limited environment that makes it easy to play three colors. If they feel like they should reward us for not splashing, that means that it´s viable to do so (unless you play these cards ofc).
This is very powerful in limited. 2/4 or 3/4 that cantrips for 4 mana is awesome.
It does indeed point to a Limited environment that makes multiple types of coloured mana easy to produce.
I just really hope they've actually given us one.
I actually think this guy is constructed viable - thanks to the cantrip. Having a huge flyer that cantrips for 4 mana is quite powerful. You really have to warp your manabase though. No field of ruins. Probably have to play 3 or 4 gates / highland lakes (finally get to play with that sweet noah bradley art). He's more of a 5 drop in limited and you need a good spell density. A pod can probably only support 1 UR player.
Just realized that with the right deck... this guy is the same size as Dragonlord Ojutai. Would be scary if someone casts a battle rage or any double strike effect on him.
even if the opponent kills the first drake, the next one you cast will be just be as large as the first that died. It helps the he's bolt proof, and for other removals.. stubborn denial can be used to protect him. Can be a backup win con in a Grixis control, since that deck uses a lot of instants and sorceries.
MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Nice, that's a neat trick there with selective memory.
