Pushed demon is nice, but this isn't the first time we've seen a pushed demon in standard not see a lot of mainstream play. On the upside, it's a nice 6/6 flying face beater unlike Herald of Anguish.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

That's true, but Surveil 2 at will is incredibly powerful.
What makes the demon super strong is that after he is cast, there is no mana needed to pay the surveil, just life... this method can be easily abused with a little build around.
the art in this set is some of the most drab, uninspired, lifeless and depressing kind of monochromatic blandness in a magic set ever. i imagine wizards have slashed their art budgets and the artists have barely any time to work on these.
the art in older ravnica sets were so colourful and imaginative by comparison

What?
I mean, when it comes to art, to each to their own but have you looked at the Selesnya cards? The basic lands from the Guild Kits? They are some of the best art pieces we got since Rebbeca Guey left, no joke. My absolute favorite is Centaur Mediator, it is anything but lifeless.
These spirits are making me regret taking apart my spirit tribal EDH. I'm tempted to rebuild it... but I don't want to get Spell Queller and Mausoleum Warder again >_>
Dimir control here I come, they even got the mana cost wrath in black and some cool spells and card draw, this demon looks like a great finisher next to belzenlok my main man.

Doom Whisperer is waaaaay above the normal power curve. It's a big, under-costed beater like Baneslayer Angel but it also generates value even if removed! BOMB.
So, what's the story significance of Doom Whisperer (and Dream Eater)? Nightmare is typically associated with madness, which there's not a lot of in historical Ravnica, and the twisted bodies look like they'd be right at home in the post-Emrakul Innistrad. I know Dimir has driven people mad in the past, but having a literal nightmare demon flying around the city seems like a significant step-up from that. Will we be seeing Dimir's mysterious hidden truth at long last, perhaps to combat Bolas?

Back in Rav-1 the usual way to make a card Dimir was to make a pit dwelling horror monster the likes of which nobody has seen before.
It became less of a thing in Rav-2 because they were now 'simple couriers' and 'information dealers.' Which is the politest way I've ever heard smuggler and spy said.
