I have a feeling this is going to find a nice home in Standard and possibly some Modern play as a Snappy-lite. I do like the Isochron Scepter and Mission Briefing combination to dig and fill graveyard in some Modern brew.
Wow. Now we have two really strong rares that are likely to see play in Modern and Legacy. With Assassin's Trophy already at $30 presale, and this likely to be preselling high as well, this could have the interesting effect of driving down the prices on the shock lands in the set.
ye, $2 shocks incomming (being realist $3-$5 shocks i think will happen)
So I’m too poor to play with Ole Snappy so maybe I just don’t understand but it seems like th empathy important difference between him and this is the extra U. The body so rarely matters. And add to that some card filtering? This seems fantastic.
Snap's body is almost always relevant. This is still a good card though.
Can I cast a sorcery at the end of my opponent's turn with this card? Thanks a lot for the answer
I believe no, as the normal timing rules would still apply (like with Flashback). So while you could target a sorcery during your opponent's turn, you still can't cast it unless you somehow gave it Flash

I see this a lot, and I don't understand the problem. If there are less cards from the mothership, that doesn't mean there are fewer spoilers for the day. It means that more cards are assigned to mtg content creators. This is a great thing for the community. Please don't complain about that.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
You can't cast sorcery spells instant speed with it. It says "you can cast it this turn". Doesn't say "cast it now", so you still need to respect timing restrictions (so, sorcery only in main phase when stack is empty) when casting it later that turn.
The reason why Torrential Gearhulk was able to cast Memory instant speed, was because Gearhulk says "you may cast it", meaning "you can cast it now and only now". This overrides timing restrictions, because if text on card conflicts game rules, card wins. So it doesn't matter that "now" is not your main phase and/or stack isn't empty, because Gearhulk's ability instructs you to cast it anyway.
Snapcaster minus the 2/1 body plus a little bit of mill (sorry, "surveil") with it. Sounds good to me. More weighted, ironic given this is a multicolor set and ISD was on the tail of an artifact block and the next block would be multicolor as well, but it works.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
For those wondering if they could choose a sorcery card in the graveyard and cast it at instant speed, like on an opponent's turn for example, the answer is no. This works very similar Snapcaster Mage's flashback granting ability. You could give Serum Visions or Supreme Verdict flashback if you wanted, but you could still only cast it at sorcery speed. The same concept applies for Mission Briefing.

But it' s the same case than Aetherwork marvel, isn't? Or it's different?
the difference is in the wording. if it stipulates "this turn", then normal timing restrictions apply; since the range opens to include them. if it just says "you may cast this card", then its an option you only have at that moment meaning restrictions can be overruled to compensate.
not the most intuitive of interactions, and i expect many a judge will have to clarify this for people.
like for instance snapcaster mage gives flashback, which is an alternative casting cost. this means it cant cast cards for existing alternative costs (unless the card had flashback to begin with). Mission Briefing isnt an alternative cost, so it could technically recast Force of Will with the pitch mode; or cast Ancestral Vision using As Foretold.

Can't wait for someone in a feature match to cast a desperate Mission Briefing with an empty yard and hit nothing but another Mission Briefing to spin the wheel again
This Mission Briefing will cost you a cool $15 on SCG right now.
This is a pretty good Snap competitor. Should make Delve threats and spells a bit more attractive as well. Though, it's tough to beat the epic combo that is Snap+Kommand.
I think it's funny how Dimir is so good at enabling Jump-start, then just does better Jump-start anyway. This might even be better flashback, ya?

LOL... reminds me of the worst play ever. Both of us down to 2-3 life. Two cards in hand, one was Winds of Change, I cast it hoping to find a Bolt, Fireball, Ball Lightning or even a Wheel of Fortune. Nope. Got a Winds of Change back.
$15 for a slightly-upgraded Flood of Recollection is likely to be the biggest bust of the pre-sale season. Being vaguely similar to an awesome card is a traditional recipe for this. And bear in mind that it took about 8 imitation Dark Confidants before they finally printed a playable one with Siphoner, and that card was still only worth a few dollars.
oh yeah for sure. dont buy into the hype. this is a 5 dollar rare at best.
surveil 2 may be some virtual card advantage, but thats still quite different from an actual card; which the body of snapcaster provides.
still a great card no doubt, but snapcaster this is not. then consider the volume in which this set is going to be opened, and it wont be long before you can pick these up on the cheap.

This is indeed a 5 dollar rare. The double blue cost definitely was a precaution. If you want to flash back a cantrip, better be ready to have triple blue.

Aetherworks Marvel casts the card immediately, as part of its effect. This just says "you may cast that card this turn" and doesn't try to push the matter right now.
Just earlier today I made a post about how most Magic players are absolutely awful at evaluating cards. And then we get this and most people seem to think this will be close to Snapcaster.
It won't. It's not a bad card but it's nowhere near as good as Snapcaster.
Actually in some instances it is better than snapcaster... for instance:
Narset Commander
Shu Yun
Delver may want a mix of both to keep NC-C ratio high

Jesus. Finally a Surveil design that wouldn't be almost identical if you changed it to Scry. I think R&D really dropped the ball with Surveil as a mechanic by barely making any cards that emphasize the difference between Surceil and Scry.
As for the card itself, it'll probably see a decent amount of Standard play. Being able to flashback an Assassin's Trophy or Ionize or Settle the Wreckage seems pretty legit.

I think WotC is trying to have a mechanic that plays nice with Jumpstart. So Surveil a card that has Jumpstart into the graveyard. Then Jumpstart the card by discarding a trash card. Cast another Jumpstart card to feed the graveyard. Ad nauseum. With enough Jumpstart cards in a deck, can you imagine a control deck with effectively double the counter spells?
Someone is going to try and build such a deck and if WotC's previous attempts at anticipating problems is of any indication, we're going to have tons of fun.

Between Mission Briefing, Assassin's Trophy, and the five shocklands, I can hardly afford not to buy a booster box of this set.
