So the weekend basics I guess are the same basics that come in the guild kits but in foil? I am definitely going to need to pick them up. I'll be the next redundant comment that they are stupidly awesome.
Well, Direct Current and Sonic Assault have me realll worried that Jump-start is going to go the way of Cipher; i.e. development was so scared of it that they costed it into oblivion. I'm not convinced that Direct Current is even that amazing in limited (context will matter), and it has zero hope of being constructed playable in any format. I mean, the overall cost of your two shots of two is the same as Firebolt...but you also discard a card :(. Radical Idea is at least on the borderline where I could see it being too strong at one mana even if it's probably a little weak at two.
Meanwhile, Unexplained Disappearance and even Deadly Visit (which is not a constructed card but will most likely be a limited rock star) show that they considered Surveil to be equal to Scry for mana purposes even though Surveil is generally much, much more powerful than Scry. It bodes well for us getting a Surveil-based Opt or Serum Visions that they then have to ban in Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Pauper.

Radacal Idea is enough to keep control competitive. 2 cards total and spending one is ideal and it even survives being discarded (which is one of the ways to heat control - discard their draw)
I kinda wish Jump-start required discarding a non-land card, but it is what it is.
That red jump start is too expensive - although it may see play with Guttersnipe.
Deadly visit is hard to evaluate. Murder and Contempt are cheaper and instant but surveil 2 might make it worthwhile.

Rose tint my world, keep me safe from my trouble and pain.
Rosemane Centaur looks a heck of a lot better than Guardian of Vitu-Ghazi. With Emmara and any 1 cmc, you can have a 4/4 horse man with Vigilance out turn 3.
Sonic Assault? For some reason, I get a mental image of a blue hedgehog toting a machine gun.
Direct Current is AWFUL. 3 mana sorcery Shock that requires another 3 mana and discard to deal another 2 damage, is terrible. Radical Idea just.... I don't know on first look it feels like a bad Think Twice. That discard in the Jump-start mechanic, just really really feels bad on these cards that it looks like WotC decided to cost very safely (aka under-powered).
I knew the Jump-Start burn spell wasn't going to be undercosted, and I knew it would garner complaints when it turned out not to be. Just remember that it combos with Fiery Temper outside Standard. We'll also quite possibly get a card that copies jump-started spells.
Radical Idea doesn't cost 2U to Flashback. Where you see downside, I see combo potential, both with Jump-Start itself and with other effects like Flashback and Madness.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Definitely. Like I said, I could see these becoming valuable, especially that Izzet mountain, which might be one of my favorite mountains of all time (up there with Véronique Meignaud's "portal" mountain from Zendikar block). Probably not as much as foil Un-set basic lands or Zendikar full art lands, but they'll be up there.

Proof they still have new things for split cards, I guess. (Actually, I called half-mono, half-two back when DGM came out as the next big thing.)

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

Jump-start is definitely underpowered on first glance. Sure, it's early and we've only seen a few cards, but unless there's more Izzet-themed cards that work with those cards you discard, it's probably going to be up there with cipher as a failed mechanic.
Surveil is powerful. I mean, holy crap is it powerful. This is a mechanic that Modern and Eternal format deck builders are going to salivate over for quite a while. Unexplained Disappearance costs 1 more mana than Vapor Snag but is probably more powerful: it's incredible card advantage, especially in decks that benefit more from putting that card into your graveyard. I actually can't believe it's common. It should become a Pauper staple in no time.

Radical Idea seems to be a pretty solid draw spell , potentially in Modern , as it becomes pretty good with Baral and friends in storm, 2 spells, 2 draws, a discard effect, for just U+U.
It also works in "miracle" , as you already could play Think Twice.
I have high hopes for the split cards, i mostly love them, if they are not absolutely terrible.
2 half decent cards combined often result in very good cards for the added flexibility.
Just sad they dont have FUSION , that made the split cards so much better in the late game when you totally flood out on mana.

Some interesting limitted cards for sure. Not happy about hexproof, but otherwise very interesting commons. Mentor seems good. I like that it rewards agression without forcing you to commit too much to the board. Jumpstart seems pretty meh. Unless there are discard synergies only a hand full of these will be playable. Except when you are flooded it looks like the spells you are jumpstarting will be worse than what you discard. Hopefully the support it there so that it's not cipher2.0. I appreciate that they can't just print busted jumpstart cards at common or else other archetypes will just draft them all. Also that black common is going to be sick! Looks fantastic as a finisher in pauper tortured existence.

I agree. I could see this being a reference to having a meeting with Vraska, for instance. Either she gives you status in the guild, or you become her new personal garden statue. Status and Statue makes no sense.

So Status // Statue is "Status and Statue".
GENERATION 12: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your signature and add 1 to the generation number. It's a social experiment.
