TEFERI LAUGHS STILL KING. MAYBE VRAKSA CAN CHALLENGE?
Would it be too powerful if it could do direct damage to an opposing player? They could drop its Loyalty by One.
But I do like that it cannot be hosed by graveyard exiles and jumpstart since damage is equal to spells in your graveyard and an exile. And the art is quite good. Does that cloth belong to anyone in particular?
I'm honestly rather disappointed that this card has nothing to do with extra turns. I feel like the ult was the only unique thing about his original card, and I (would have) expected them to carry that over to his new card in some way, shape, or form.
seems similar mechanically to Chandra, Torch of Defiance - which will be rotating out of Standard.
1st ability would be excellent for not running out of gas, burn often has that problem. being able to use it for creature removal right away can be useful in a pinch. Ultimate gonna ultimate.

Reminds me of the Ajani art with Elspeth's cloak. It's the Brotherhood of the Traveling Cloak

I think flipping a whole mess of coins for a powerful effect was the more memorable part of his ult, but either way, this one fails to tie back to that one at all.
I'm alright with this card. The first ability feeds the Izzet mechanic and gives you CA, the emblem is powerful and fun, and the fact that his - counts cards in exile is a good touch. Not saying it'll be standard playable but I'd definitely play it amongst friends.

Ral is themed around lightning and his guild is themed around instants and sorceries, so his current ability set makes sense.
But now I want to see a RG Leprechaun PW themed on luck, with at least one coin-flipping ability.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Climbing to that emblem might be a chore (and I'm sad that I can't play him in Atraxa, so I guess I'll never resolve it lololololol), but I like it! It works nicely with the character, with him being Izzet, and with the new mechanic. Plus, I generally like decks that encourage me to crap out tons of instants and sorceries. I may have to get him even though I have a feeling he'd get blown off the table instantly no matter what format I'm in and his kit is not the most inspiring thing ever seen in MTG history.
If he was like 3 or 4 cmc with loyalty scaled down to match he'd be pretty good but as is he just feels slow and kinda uninteresting.
Oh yeah he be much better at 2UR with 4 Starting Loyalty.
Every season people say this about 5+ planeswalkers. A 4 cmc planeswalker with loyalty 4 is the standard. Jace, the Mind Sculptor made sure of that after he broke the Standard Format. After he was printed Wizards is ever careful about how four mana planeswalkers are created, with their abilities toned down accordingly. 3 mana walkers are good to middling, with Liliana of the Veil and Liliana, the Last Hope being flukes in terms of planeswalker card power. In all honesty, Ral's starting loyalty is fine, But his abilities should be more powerful than what they are. Not every planeswalker is, nor should be 4 mana 4 loyalty card and I find the idea kinda boring. He's Ob Nixilis 2.0, BUT, he changes things by adding another element to the game: The Graveyard.
Raises the Question can you Design the 5 CMC Walker that is good without +1 Card Advantage, -3 Removal, -8 Win Game Eventually.
Creativity seems reserved for 4 CMC Walkers.
I mean, Tezzeret, Artifice Master just came out a couple months ago, that seems like a pretty big break of the formula. I don't know that he's amazing (I mean, he's cool and all, but he could be better.), but as we've established this as reminiscent of the design of Ob Nixilis Reignited... Is that the metric we're using as "good" here?
This is Grixis's Teferi substitute. I think he's much better than people are thinking. You have the card advantage in colors that actually like cards in the grave, and his minus can hit for a lot more than people think too.

The art for this set is stellar so far.

And Blue basically gets some sort of draw by default to represent knowledge, his other abilities tie into bolting stuff

Also, I like the design of this card more than his first. Man, I may consider playing more colors to accommodate red and Ral.
How am I already interested in cards from this set. I'm supposed to hate this plane.
