Guys immediately confirming your underrating the spider
Yea it not the best but there are some nasty tricks forcing people to attack you can do
Stupid Spider has nothing to do with lands thats the main issue. Also its quite boring with the forced to attack style. Instead of creating spiders or evenr amping when attack....nope it only puts a measly 1 counter on it. Thats incredibly underwhelming. It's not even a +1/+1 ccounter for each atatcking creature, just 1 minor +1/+1 counter per combat step if the opponents attacking you.

I suggest you read the card, it is indeed a counter for each attacking creature. The ability triggers each time a creature attacks you, not when one or more attack you.
This is just Fumiko the Lowblood with a couple of extra colors and keywords.
And Fumiko lets you keep your own creatures up to block and do other things with.

Case and point
You read it wrong
It's "whenever a creature attacks you" not "whenever one or more creature attack you"

So 5 creatures the spider gets 5 counters
Ahh i see . ok isn't that bad then. Still boring and not very thematic(unless it has a force attack sumb theme). Not a bad card then my bad for not reading it correctly
There's also caltrops which sort of makes the spider brilliant against weenie and token strategies. Bring in black also provides a great number of ways to gain life, and BR gives all the fling options. Seems like it should be a solid deck all in all.
I think it's interesting with fog effects, particularly - You swing at me with 10 creatures, I cast Tangle, then dome you you back for 15+ next turn. That's not counting any other players who want to attack you while your shields are down as well. Maybe you don't swing at me next time, if youre going to attack point them someplace else. I might have Constant Mists on hand next time.
I like how half the posters in this thread are saying "this cards sucks and is boring it doesn't do anything interesting" while the other half is actively brewing.
Needs: "Creatures your opponents control attack each turn if able," and whenever a creature your opponents control attack..." Very tame as it is now. Definitely headed for the not quite good enough commander exclusive pile. Every aspect of the card is undertuned, which is not what you want to see in a commander.

My favorite flavor text: Time of Heroes
Feel free to tell me yours!
Was thinking the same thing.
A pile of fogs, a few lure effects, some hexproof blossoming defense style cards.
You've not got a commander who is going to get HUGE and cause your opponents to frequently have an "Open" battlefield.
If any of your opponents go wide, you could quickly do 20 pts commander damage in a single swing.
It's not a win every game, but feels like a sneaky commander who could really punish the right meta.
'Undertuning' seems intentional in the way 'you have to attack but are you really sure you want to attack me?', which seems quite fun in casual politics-heavy games.
A pity it has nothing to do with lands, though.
Worm Harvest also provides a huge army of chump blockers with the aforementioned chasm and mists. Plus, who says spiders and Frogs can't fit in the same deck? There's a huge incentive to go heavy into lands interaction it's just not mentioned by name.

Especially interesting with Constant Mists or Glacial Chasm, which force you to pitch lands. If you now try to recur them over and over you have your land theme. Very vague and rather obnoxious but it‘s there.
Honestly, with the Jund deck being land-themed and this apparently being in it, I think it would be a huge misstep to not reprint Constant Mists here.
Other than Constant Mists being a miserable card to play against? I think in general they err on the side of "fun and less powerful" vs "potentially backbreaking and un-fun" for these products.
I feel like throwing in minus counters into the build as a small subtheme might be fun to try out
Everlasting Torment helps everybody at the table wittle away fatties overtime (while Thantis can use his + counters to mitigate them), and the fact that you can pretty easily slide in Hapatra and Scorpion God into the same deck makes things pretty funny. And of course considering basically everybodys going to have the majority of their board tapped out, throw in Skythyrix and the rest of the Jund Infect creatures.
To me, Thantis represents the sweet spot between Pillow Fort and Voltron.
1. On the one hand, Thantis encourages you to load up on fog effects so that you won't be overrun by swarms (or simply killed by fatties when the spider is swatted by a kill spell).
2. On the other hand, Thantis will often be able to attack players with "shields down" (in a 4-player game, not everyone is going to drop a new creature each turn) and Thantis can easily grow big enough to take down players.
I don't think that the deck will be competitive but friends of mien have made cool Fumiko decks and I'm sure that an extra two colors will make the deck interesting. My only gripe is the anti-synergy that this deck has with other spiders (a generally defensive creature type).
Why not just drop Living Plane and then you have lands synergy? Either tap out, or grow my spider while still being tapped out and ripe for a crack back.
This is easily the most appropriate commander for a punisher style deck. Forces shields down, which can be fatal with the color combo.
Not everybody enjoys broken synergies. Sometimes, working for that win in an unusual way is truly satisfying.
I honestly would prefer a more cohesive precon deck. Looks like people wanting an actual land theme-focused deck would be slightly disappointed, and that's understandable.
Whelp, there's our Jund Spider legend. Not quite tribal like I was expecting, but your Spiders will still serve it well.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
If you want to get cute, put Repercussion in the deck. Force people to attack, and when their creatures take damage, the owner takes damage as well.
This will also help dissuade token swarms toward you as the swarm will make the spider really big... Which also means they will be taking LOTS of damage.

True, if everyone is attacking, Thantis would go unblocked in most cases, and being vigilant it could still block at least one enemy, and a few more if equipment serves. Vanguard's Shield and Echo Circlet came to mind, perhaps more colored options are available.
No Mercy is another good option for a Thantis deck, with Grave Betrayal to beef up your army further, and use Death's Presence to keep your advantage. Perhaps I should start a thread to ponder on this further.
