Oh dayum. I'm loving these changes. Especially someone who plays unpaired partner commanders as their commander already The format is called Commander, not Commanders. So I never liked to use partner myself, though I didn't mind others doing it.
If they took Top and Serra's Ascendent off the banlist, all my decks would be viable in this format now
The issue with Partners is you always have access to at least one of them, and as the game progresses you are not really penalized for their earlier deaths.
Maybe now they get bomby early plays, and games are a little more swingy. From Hawley's writing it seemed the 1 v1 online meta had become super grindy, maybe this solves that.

MTGO 1v1 is completely ran by WotC. The multiplayer format is ran by the Rules Committee, so there will be no changes to paper, unless the RC deems it so.
So, they turned the format into RNG? I mean, seriously, is all it takes is for either player to start with Sol Ring and that’s it. I used to have an Alesha, who smiles at death deck that could routinely kill a player on T2 in about a half-dozen ways. Time to dredge that bad boy back up and start ruining the scene. Seriously, fast mana in 1v1 is broken as hell and is strictly luck based. Better off buying a lottery ticket.
Wow, I hope anyone didn't like the format the way it was, because this seems like enough to transform it completely. Fast mana is way worse in 1v1 since getting a head start in multiplayer paints a target on your head, diminishing the advantage it provides. Games will be decided by who gets their Sol Ring/Vault/Crypt and the cards to cash in on it.

This sounds like they went "maybe that partner mechanic was a bad idea..." and just flipped the entire format back to pre 2016 before partners were invented. I mostly just play Maren since she's costed me an arm and a leg to get her up to par. Gods, my soul dies every time I look at the costs to make an optimal 4 color mana base for Atraxa.

That's why I reverted back to Ephara despite being thrilled with Jodah. It's just easier to stay in two colors, and a lot less of a nightmare as far as manabase.
I actually love the Partner commanders, but not because of Partner. I love that we got so many of them, and most were past characters. I love using them individually, like Silas Renn and Thrasios. I use Kydele in the 99. Just a great bunch of Commander characters from the lore, but I don't partner them. It was like a huge spill of awesome dual color past legendary characters when C16 came out. I hope we get a huge helping of new legends this year.

If people are sick of reading about stuff just stop taking part. You have 100% control over what you read. Simic Ascendancy isn't going to get banned just because you didn't tell someone to shut up on the internet.
I play a lot of 1on1, and yes partner is a problem. But not because of the mechanic, but because the cards themselves were broken.
