And while I love the art-appropriate and lovely concept of having Ixalan vampire themed Vampiric Tutor, I resent that the artwork is so hideous. So many Ixalan vampires, male and female, are very elegant, handsome/pretty in their art. But here, we've reverted back to depicting men, yet again, as old, gnarled, worn and unattractive. I love everything else in the art, from the candles, lanterns and feathered pens on a map etc. But contrast this to lovely Terese Nielsen depictions of Jace and Gideon, I question the high volume of disparity in MTG art with sexualized women relative to grunty gnarled brutes in depictions for men. Gives the game a distinctly hetero male exclusive vibe that I resent every time I see men depicted to be as unattractive or imposing as possible.
I find it weird when they reprint Promos that have already been done in the same program.
Vampiric Tutor has already been Judge promo'd (though ages ago). At least it's less egregious than when they did Judge Vindicates 6 years apart.
See also FNM Goblin Warchief, the only FNM promo to be repeated ever.
I really like the Legendary frame, it makes the colors stand out. That set symbol is taking way too much space on the typeline, though. It's shrinking the text down, Yugioh style.
Honestly I respect Wizards more that they are trying harder to have a variety of art, particularly art depicting non-sexualized characters.
I mean, dude can we look at people as people, not objects?
It’s one of the reasons why I appreciate that Wizards has begun more to feature noble, older women, whom are often not represented (positively) in fantasy art. That new Jaya art is beautiful and has so much depth to it.

I find the vast majority of male artwork to be consistently unappealing, until recent years. Probably even intentionally so. I wouldn't say adding more to that is fostering variety when there's already an abundance, but perhaps there's people who admire this sort of style. All I can say is it's not for me.
As far as Vampire anything goes, I rather prefer the Bela Lugosi Vampire over the new generation Brad Pitt version. Nothing wrong with, "Interview with a Vampire," but vampires need to be as scary as F, not trying to get you into bed. In short, I think this card art is alright so I'm not really sure what the controversy is.
Is there not enough Brad Pitt vampires in the game? I can't think of any card with art like that...

Honestly i would find the art ugly even with brad pitt/george clooney/johnny depp/jason momoa/ryan gosling/whoever you want.
As an hetero male i would hate the art even if there was naked emma stone instead. There are many problems with this art, the attractiveness of the main subject isn't even on top 10.
- he doesn't look like he's tutoring. Really random looking at maps isn't what tutors usually are, unless they are land tutors.
- he doesn't look scary. The idea is that you are paying for the tutoring with your blood. The idea isn't depicted by the art in any way. It's just a random studio with some maps. You can't even be sure that the guy is a vampire
- he is ridicolous. Not because he's ugly because he looks annoyed. Like a grampa who sees kids on his yard. Really his exprection isn't giving to me a "youu are gonna give me your blood" feeling, but a "can't you see i'm busy?" feeling.
The tutor art is obviously left-over artwork from Ixalan that never made it onto a card until now. And as you say it looks designed for a different card altogether, probably a Vampire Creature card that tutored for a land. Its called being cheap and hoping no one notices.

The art never used to be like that back in the day, but it's so blatant these days it's getting pretty ridiculous.
When do these get released? I mean obviously they will be given to judges, but I'm wondering at what point we can expect to purchase them on the secondary market and/or trade for them.

I have to agree. It seems hard to believe this art was specifically commisioned for this card.
It doesnt match or represent or depict anything about vampiric tutor at all. Cant even tell that he's even a vampire.
They tried to tie it together with the flavor text but that doesnt work either.
I would be dissapointed as a Judge to get these.

Didn't even catch that it's Ixalan art. Hard to see the map detail on my phone but that does look like the map for Ixalan.
Some people enjoy the original art for cards and some people want that art in foil. This will be the first time Nin is in foil so it makes sense to use her original art.
Nothing about this Vampiric Tutor illustrates what it's supposed to be. He doesn't look vampiric and he's just staring at you. WTF?
He's a Torrezon Vampire from Ixalan. And the look on his face suggests he might be a little unhinged. Or incredibly thirsty. Actually, the latter often leads to the former.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Uh... Perhaps I'm insensitive or downright dumb, but "ugly artworks in a collectible card game are lesive of LGBT equality" seems like a preposterous angle to ride. It honestly seems to me that the LGBT community already has harder, tougher, more serious battles to fight.

He's just a aged man who looks perturbed. We can't see his fangs or anything, we just have to assume he's a vampire since he looks like he's from Ixalan.

Is every picture of Vampires ever supposed to have their mouths wide open like they're posing for a Universal Monster Movie poster? Though Vampire's Bite looks more like a Halloween issue of Sports Illustrated.
