Amulet of Safekeeping2
Artifact (Rare)
Whenever you become the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, counter that spell or ability unless that opponent pays 1.
Creature tokens get -1/-0. Whether it is magical, lucky, or merely old, it is cherished, and that gives it power.
Wow, Wizards really ups the hate on modern. Witchbane orb was too costly. This drops right before the storm deck pings you to death or drops a now useless hordes of 1/1 goblins.
My Burn Heart is bleeding right now. Also this does stop storm right? Since you have to pay for each spell targeting you, they dont have to be cast.
I don't believe so. This is a trigger on you being targeted. Storm copies enter the stack already targeting you (if you decided to switch target to your opponent that would trigger it), so I don't believe this actually does anything. You can even just let the first Grapeshot be countered if you have enough storm copies afterwards.

The card reads "Whenever you become the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls..." The trigger is when you become the target, not when it is cast. Each instance of Grapeshot on the stack actively targets you when it is placed on the stack. A new targeting trigger is created for each copy of the spell. Thus, each is countered unless its controller pays 1 for each spell on the stack.

You still have to choose a target for each copy then this would trigger for each copy. So yes it will counter each storm copy unless the controller pays 1

I thought that the copies enter the stack already targeting you, and the opponent has the option to retarget. If that's enough to trigger the ability, then I guess I'm wrong and the reminder text for Storm just isn't super intuitive in this corner case.
Need a playset. Lots of possible sideboard uses in Modern.
Someone is going to jam this with Chalice of the Void and drive some control player bonkers.

I guess this card was designed back last year when storm was right at the top of the meta in modern. Still this seems like a solid card to have available if storm rises up again. Also randomly good against mardu pyromancer and burn.
The downside of this vs Damping Sphere in the storm scenario, is that with this you can just combo off and try to find a bounce spell to get rid of this before you Grapeshot their face. With the Sphere, every single spell costs more and more mana, so if you don't start with the bounce spell, you're probably not comboing off that turn.
As a Modern Storm player, I don't think this actually does anything against Storm. Postboard, Storm will always bring answers like Wipe Away for hate cards, and this does nothing at all to stop the Storm player from going off, except for making Gifts cost 1 more. The most effective hate proactively stops the combo from working (Damping Sphere and grave hate), and I would definitely rather the opponent have this than Lightning Bolt or Mana Leak, let alone a good Storm hate card. It's cute that in combination with other hate it locks the game up, since the desperation plan of a couple rituals into Empty the Warrens doesn't work anymore, but forcing the Storm player into desperation mode is what your sideboard cards are supposed to do single-handedly, and this does nothing on its own.
Really I say it mostly beats up on Mardu Pyromancer. No More Young Pyromancer Tokens or Lingering Souls dealing chip damage to you and/or your Walkers.

The first ability is interesting, but I don't know if it's better than Witchbane Orb in Modern artifact decks.
Pretty sure that Grixis Shadow doesn't want to spend an entire turn casting Thoughtseize, so I'd say 50% cheaper is attractive over Witchbane Orb.

Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.

Krenko without combos? What?

Shhhh.....
With this, Damping, and Alpine?
This is also great against Mardu of course. Righteous card.
