Any of the Mares is an absolute beating in Limited, with Shield Mare being the weakest - which is saying something considering just how damn much it DOES for three mana. Plague Mare might be the best Limited card in the set depending on how things hash out.
I love nu-Chromium. It's Ham the Tickery Man, kids!
Jeez, the black horse is just a black chainwhirler, sans the PW damage.
And Omniscience is a great reprint. It was getting close to $30. It sees play in Legacy and is a casual allstar. Really pleased with some of the mythics we’re seeing.

"The essence of every world, every spell and every thought is power. Nothing else matters, because nothing else exists."
Chromium is straight out insane finisher. Flash, uncounterable, 7/7, evasion and hexproof on demand. What more do you want? I think it's slight wrose than aetherling, but close and some of it is obviously better, but mostly a tad worse.)
So the jank dream is to Apex of Power into Omniscience. Almost makes having multiples of those two otherwise insanely expensive spells manageable, since once omniscience is out apex gets much better (and chainable). Now will red have the rituals needed to race to 10 or not?
Edit: dam it omni is free from hand only... never mind. Still janky.
Chromium’s ability is awful. I understand it’s flavor related, but yikes is that garbage. Its static stuff is fine at least. m
Why is Chromium's ability awful? Looking at it, giving himself hexproof for the turn by discarding a card (and he's something you'd theoretically run in a control deck, so cards to discard for him shouldn't be too much of a issue) doesn't seem terrible to me.
Also, regarding Omniscience, it's neat that Jodah Brawl has access to one of Jodah's best big spells.

He loses all abilities, becomes a 1/1 and gains hexproof and unblockable. At 7 mana and 3 colors, it should be doing a lot more. You’re going from a 7/7 to a 1/1. Yes, it gains hexproof and can’t be blocked, but there are so many better options as a finisher.

Sure but you a 1/1 so chainwhirler bait. I wouldn't mind it so much if you became a human that was like a 2/2 or something that cannot die from incidental damage. But yeah add me to the list of not impressed with these New Elder Dragons did I expect Standard Playable (nope overcosted for that most likely maybe worth cheating in other formats) no but I at least expected cool Commander Cards.
BR now gets two chainwhirler effects? Way to go WOTC. Hell of a Job.
Speaking of Chainwhirler does Shield Mare give me 3 life when Chainwhirler ETBs me?

Ok... so you're obviously using that ability to dodge a removal spell. In standard, that means 3 or 4 mana. Then on top of that, they have to pay three to cast Chainwhirler. So they had to burn 7 mana and two cards to kill your guy.
How is that bad, exactly?

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

Chromium is going to fit so nicely in my Ur Dragon historic deck. There are si many things that give effects to legendary creatures. Discarding a card to go unblockable and hexproof as needed is nothing but an advantage.
...Why are you attacking into a flyer when they have open mana in a control deck unless you have a counterspell or a kill spell?
He's not a weak card by any means. He's easy to cast as your keeping up defenses mana pays for him on their turn thanks to Flash. His only real issue is that he can end up caught between a rock and a hard place due to how constant Chainwhirler is in standard right now. But he'll still have a lot more room to not die than most creatures because he's designed to evade death.
Like, this is a late game control card. He does late game control card things. And is a faster clock than most.

Trinket text - Chromium had a tendency to become Human to "pass unnoticed."
The ability is mostly about the hexproof but also does things like dodge RetMeek in Commander and similar, and also probably silly wombo combos
