I wouldn't even call anything helmed by Ziliran a dragon deck. He's like Scion of the Ur-Dragon in that he's a bunch of different commanders in one. Lathliss is geared towards a true dragon deck, though I personally cannot see myself running just red for any creature based deck due to its lack of creature protecting and recurring options.
Can we talk about how beautiful Lathliss looks? She has this majestic aura about her that... I dunno, I just really really love her design. She even has a bit of a Bolas-like horns thing going on, I wonder if there's any relation, or if I'm just seeing things?
Unfortunately for zirilan, lathliss comes in 3rd at the dragon token making Olympics behind utvara hellkite and arguably skyline despot.
Eh, apples and oranges. Latliss having lower CMC is not nothing, even in EDH. Even with the same (high) amount of mana available, Lathliss is also better than Utvara Hellkite on an empty board, and Skyline Despot requires you to go a whole turn cycle unmolested even if his tokens are free. Lathliss also gets you the burn and the beats out of Dragon Tempest, whereas Utvara just gets the burn.
Lathliss is incredible
6/6 Flying for six....and pumps all your dragons. Thats awesome
Oh wait I drop any creature and get another 5/5 flying dragon for free....good grief....a red chase rare...incredible

Hey now, utavra hellkite is a stronger effect. It triggers every Dragon attack even the turn You cast it. It can also be cloned so its its own army in a can, is potentially useable immediately, and doesn't even demand you go all dragons because even one other Dragon plus it gets insane fast. This is a sweet 6/6 flier for 6 and is a nice Dragon tribal commander, but it's no utvara hellkite. That think costs 8 for a reason.
Well 25 years later and we finally get to see an Elder Dragon other than Bolas. Took long enough.
It seems about as playable in constructed as the original. I'm happy for EDH players but it seems they get about 95% of the goodies anymore. (Of course the format is named after these dragons I suppose.)
New Vaevictus looks OK as a creature to cheat in off your opponent's Show and Tell in Legacy and eat up your opponent's big creature and maybe Sneak Attack later. Of course, Griselbrand draws 7 cards before he gets killed, but when doesn't he draw 7 cards before getting offed? Nic Fit can even Green Sun's Zenith for Vaevictus against non-Show and Tell decks and tell him to eat his opponent's best creatures and possibly get them swapped for worse ones.
OK, Vaevictus also eats your stuff and tries to get them swapped for better stuff. Here's hoping you can afford to lose your lands.
