She's okay, but most 4cc walkers actually protect themselves
The invocation isn't terrible to pull that ghalta not in your hand yet.
Still the best green walker ever printed:
Still waiting on 2cc monogreen cards that are actually relevant. What's the point of having Llanowar Elves pump out an archdruid on turn 2, when other colors flat out get lords at 2cc
This is not nearly as cool as the concept of the card was. The survey version of her profile that came out a couple months ago was just so much more fun

"I hope to have such a death... lying in triumph atop the broken bodies of those who slew me..."
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
Where's Ugin? This upcoming set is supposed to be about his history with Bolas, and yet apparently he won't get a card just so that Wizards can continue to avalanche us with generic brown-skinned human female planeswalkers to show everyone how woke they are.
Less politics, more dragons please.

I collect Legendary cards, Planeswalkers, and Sagas.
Current count of different Legends: 1314
Current count of different Planeswalkers: 213
Current count of different Sagas: 44
They pretty much locked Garruk in as green/black since Innistrad (the coreset story basically has him no longer wanting to be mono-green anymore). One reason they went with Nissa for the gatewatch she was literally the only mono green aligned walker they had at the time.
What he wants doesn't really matter, now does it? (They needed a way to make Bolas and the Onakke unrelated threats as well, which is hard to do with Liliana.)
That +1 looks interesting. It's a sort of green Phyrexian Arena, almost. The -3 is just Bring to the Earth, which is good, when it's repeatable. The -8 could be fun with Doubling Season, especially since there's very little reason not to alpha strike every turn now.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
they mad the concept blacker
what a flavourless boring walker, art doesn't match the abilities and the overall look seems way more generic than any walker before, this feels a reject from the chinese masters series
- She's an archer who shoots elemental beast spirit thingies.
- she wants revenge on Bolas.
- She's basically a genderswapped planeswalking Steve Irwin; she loves exploring and interacting with exotic fauna.
So for her skills, her +1 definitely says "explore and find cool beasts", her -3 definitely says "mystical archer", and her ultimate...hm. I would have liked to see something like "Put all creature cards from your hand onto the battlefield" or "you may pay 0 rather than pay the cost of creature spells", something that felt like a wild summoner.

Wait so is Ugin not in this set?! The article seems to imply so and I hope it to be wrong since I was looking forward to seeing him (and hopefully a reprint of Ugin, the Spirit Dragon). Anyway, the cards: Vivien Reid is a lot of value with no protection. She seems like a solid SB card against control for green stompy decks in standard, as she can provide repeated advantage and shoot down Lyra Dawnbringer if that is control SB plan. I'm not sold on her for EDH, but her first two abilities might be relevant enough for her to find a place. Vivien's Invocation is interesting. Between potentially cheating a mana cost and getting to kill a creature, the potential value is certainly there. Unfortunately, top of deck is slightly harder to manipulate than the hand so the consistency might not be.

STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Mechanical-fail walker. I expected something that mechanically would resemble spirit animals. This could have taken any of the following forms.
1) Damage prevention clause from Phantom creatures (IE Phantom Tiger) as an emblem.
2) Creating spirit animal tokens.
3) Returning a creature in your graveyard to the battlefield and giving it the spirit subtype.
4) The emblem, as it is, also giving your creatures the spirit subtype.
Unrelated, but they might as well have called Skalla "Nordic Battle World" as that is what Skalla essentially means: "headbutt" or "butt". Unless its a plane more about sound as per the Swedish version of Skalla meaning "ring out" or "blast" or "resound" which would be very different and interesting. Even a mix of the two would be a cool concept of norseman battling using sound.
I'm somewhat sad we didn't get Jace in Core 19 so we could have both 'Vivien Reid is a boring character who I care nothing about because she is new' and 'whyyy is it jace again, can't it be anyone other than jace' threads going at the same time.
Anyway. This is a core set, complexity level is low on core sets. This is a monocolor walker in a core set, the goal is to not break the new players. Power level wise she's higher than Walker deck walkers, and as far as interesting, let'slookateveryotherfirstmeetingmonocolorwalkertheirfirsttime.
While they're sometimes more complex (especially on ult), they aren't actually that flexible in their actions as, say, later printings of the same walker character. Most walkers our first run-in with them are fairly boring. I'm sure a few of those are exceptions (like OG Sorin being fairly interesting in a dumb way). Probably the most interesting of all of those is Tybalt. He isn't good, but he's interesting.
"The new Green planeswalker is a hunter with expert knowledge of beasts. In spite of this, she shares deep bond with the animals and has a lot of respect for them. But this time with a bow instead of an axe!"
Come on! That's such a flat character, the color has so much unexplored territory. Do all blue walkers live on islands and have water powers? And she's a human (elf?) as well, once again failing to fill in the G "weird" race that every other color has. Looks like green is the new red.
I also don't like the card itself, flavor-cohesion-wise, seems all over the place. First ability kinda works for "tracking", though it reads extremely Kiora-like and muddles the identity. Second is... shooting arrows, but mostly naturalizing (can't kill an artifact with a bow), which usually implies Nature's destructive anger at artificial things or outsiders: so she is The Protector of the Forest, its avatar, already Nissa's job? Ult buffs your team, a stampede effect but more sophisticated, yet beast army is clearly mono-G Garruk's gimmick. And abilities barely work with each other in-game: I guess weak synergy between +1 and ult, "card advantage synergyzes with anthems", duh.
Power level is fine, I guess, but the card's very reactive. Climb to ult is slow and it's not an insta-win considering throwing +1'd creatures in front of attackers as the only way of protecting Vivien probably leaves you with not enough of a force to swing for lethal - although manadorks help, as well as vigilance+indestructible combo. Card selection/advantage her + provides is pretty good but not insane, so without valid targets for - she can scarcely compete with opposing engines. Sideboardwalkers feel kinda bad from a design standpoint, to be honest.
