RtR gave us a lot of great cards. If the power level is there, and the art is good, its hard for me to get upset by plane that gave us so many amazing tools to play with.
If this wraps up the Gatewatch story, all the better.

Oh I will throw a parade if this ends the Gatewatch Story and we shift focus to new group for the Second Phyrexian War (as Phyrexia is the most likely next threat with Bolas and Titans off the table) which really the Gatewatch has little connection to...Karn, Teferi, KOTH, etc should be the focus of such a story.
A bit sad that this was too rushed, but really glad it was Ravnica. Thank God it wasn't Theros, the least the game needs right now after Ixalan did okay and Dominaria did so good was another *****show.
LOL.
Theros brought in a ton of new players. At Wizards, it's incredibly likely that Theros is generally regarded as one of the higher points of Magic in the past 5 years. The inevitable return to Theros will do very well, despite the personal preferences of some players.
On topic: Ravnica part 3 was entirely expected, based on the storyline direction. What we don't know yet: Will Shocklands come back?
Original Innistrad was the reason I considered playing MTG. Kamigawa reinforced that interest. But it was Theros the nailed me down as an invested, enfranchised player. I ended up spending ten times as much on Theros than I ever did in Yugioh, and abandoned Yugioh for good, which I'm grateful for. I remember seeing so many new players, our Commander games were massive. After BFZ, it's just been on this horrible decline. Magic Origins was my favorite pre-release of all time.
This online community, like many others, is another example of a highly invested, vocal minority being contrarians and just not liking popular things. I bet there would be just as many people complaining about Theros if that was the popular plane we're returning to the second time already. "Gods again? UGH! Wizards is getting so lazy and greedy!"
My predicitons for the storyline: All the guilds + the Gatewatch gang up on Bolas. That's why it's called Ravnica allegiance. And the guilds not killing eachother means Wotc get a nice excuse for preserving the status quo on their most popular plane instead of just magically reseting everything at the end of the block (happened with Rav1 and Rav2).
Original Ravnica is my favourite Magic set, so I am kind of excited to see how things shape up. But the shown concept arts do not fill me with hope. Don't like that Rakdos are some sort of performers now and the Dimir look just plain retarded.
We will see what happens.
Didn't the Rakdos always have performers? I even remember reading that some members are used for manual labour.
My problem is more we just shifted from multiple sets on the same plane only to spend one set on Dominaria. First time back to Dom in 10 years and the plane with more sets on it then any other cannot get more then one set but then we immediately go to Ravnica which gets three sets. Not to mention we seem to be rushing to end the Bolas story.
Gatewatch got some new allies and I guess Jace, Chandra and Gideon all got powerups...Jace got his mind abilities unlocked, Chandra got trained by Jaya and Gideon got a legendary weapon but ugh seems too soon after HoD.
The Gatewatch hate is still a thing after all this time, eh?
Very much so. I would be more than happy with Planeswalkers not being a story focus point, and letting the sets sell themselves based on their overall appeal.
The Gatewatch is even worse. I mean why would you think it wouldnt be a thing? Its not like people get over things they dislike, especially if they have to swallow it every single set.
The ramp down of the gatewatch 'face time' in Dominaria cards/art is a huge reason why I enjoy the set more than Kaladesh/Amonkhet. Both are fine sets, but I'm in this for the story of magic, the story of the planes, I dont really care to see Gideon on a bunch of cards, or Jace.

I didn't think it wouldn't be a thing. There are too many people in the playerbase for that to be possible. It's the reasoning for it that I'm interested in.
Mostly, I am just far more interested in seeing the plane through my eyes, the denizens of the plane's eyes, than through the lens of the same hero's over and over and over.
I was shocked for example, when I saw Gideon's Reproach because it was such a rare thing in the Dominaria reveal, to see a Gatewatch member on a card. It wasnt a good shock either.
I mean as I click through the spoilers by colour, it is so dang refreshing, to not have to see the same 5 hero's depicted in the art. Is the issue overblown? Sure it is, but its tiresome at least, to some of us.

Congratulations, you're part of the so called minority.
I get that people WANT other planes, but if you were actually expecting another plane then you're probably blind because everything in the last two years indicated that Ravnica 3 was going to happen very soon.

Actually, I'm in the majority. Theros pulled in a lot of new players like myself, as stated earlier. You can't be blind to that fact.
I also called it, among many others who did, that it would be Ravnica. No one is blindsided by that. Just by the fact we'll be there for 3 sets. Being disappointed in that isn't being oblivious.
So, two sets of Ravnica: more of the same and one of Oh no, it's Bolas again... Guess I will just stock up on Dominaria and reuse my Unstable box for our drafts...
I didn't think it wouldn't be a thing. There are too many people in the playerbase for that to be possible. It's the reasoning for it that I'm interested in.
So here's my reason. I hearken back to the Weatherlight saga. It went on a very long time but at least the end they saw it was time and globalled everyone. Hannah died, Gerrard suffered, Yawgmoth had its day and we re-booted. I don't really have any personal enmity against any of the Gatewatch (I wish Ajani got more facetime and maybe went Orzhov, yeah, that would be sweet >_>) but they're too omnipresent. The focus should be on me, Pierre, making the decisions on the battlefield and so on. Instead it's "BIP! Gatewatch appears, parties it up and solves the issue. BIP! Gatewatch planeswalks to another area."
It's become boring. It's time for them to disband or fracture or lose some forces or simply to be less involved. I yearn for new planeswalkers. I opened a Huatli the other day and even though it wasn't OP I was "Whoa, this is new!" instead of "Oh, Chandra v8.3". That's all I'm saying. Make the focus on the world and the player exploring and using the world, not on these peeps.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
Ya know, if this is the supposed showdown with Bolas, it makes me wonder what they plan to do with the Gatewatch following any conclusion at the end of Ravnica Allegiance, assuming Bolas meets his long-last fall from grace. Will this be the end of the existing Gatewatch and replaced with a new cast of characters with a new story arc, or will they continue on to finish off Emrakul still stuck in the Innistradi moon?
Wonders will never cease!

Sadly I think it's highly unlikely, given that any new set that involves New Phyrexia/Mirrodin would be judged by the player base on the standards of the old New Phyrexia block, in terms of power level. If that new set doesn't have cards on the same power level as Mox Opal, Phyrexian Obliterator, Karn Liberated et al., players will see it as a step down.
Also, a new war involving New Phyrexia would be... what, the fifth Phyrexian war? (The Thran civil war, The Brothers' War, the Invasion and the one for Mirrodin being one through four).
The video was bad. Just put in the information and not the horrific forced jokes.
Not sure I like the emphasis on Ravnica as the background for the gatewatch showdown insted of Ravnica as the city of Guilds.
With the above caveat, I absolutely love Ravnica as a world and its penchant for producing fun, powerful cards (and shock lands) has produced great sets (and Dragon's Maze) in the past. Lot of first hand nostalgia here.
The Guild Packs are interesting since they contain a lot of rares. I'd like to see some good oldies in these as well (they said all three ravnicas) such as Lightning Helix, Electrolyze and Muddle the Mixture.
More partner commanders should be fun.

Yeah seriously. people are shocked and dismayed that they're going back... to the most popular setting the game ever had. It's like everyone on this website forgets nightly that Wizards is trying to make money and is saddened to rediscover the fact in the morning.
Also: comparing the buy-a-box promo to Nalathni dragon is ridiculous... Nalathni dragon was a card you could only get from attending one specific convention in 1994.
Firesong & Sunspeaker is a card you get for buying a box at an LGS, meaning it's available wherever Magic cards are. Without market data it's hard to tell how many of them should be around, but it's definitely enough. Because a lot of boxes get opened by dealers or sold by non-WPN retailers, it's not exactly 1 firesong = 1 box, but they're definitely not particularly rarer than a typical rare; probably comparable to a mythic. The market bears this out: They're at $3.50 right now, which is less than sadly-unplayable Jaya Ballard is going for. So the ceiling on them is probably the same $60-ish ceiling that Karn is hitting, but those cards are being specifically designed not to impact Standard, which Wizards is perfectly capable of doing as demonstrated by the fact that no Planeswalker Deck exclusive has even so much as scratched the surface of Standard.

On average, Magic players are worse at new card evaluation than almost every other skill, except perhaps sideboarding.

They been setting up nice rogues gallery with Dovin, Ob, Nahiri and Garuuk, as well as possibly Sorin who have issues with one or more of the gatewatch. And a few people have pointed out Tezzeret might be a threat if he can get out of Bolas claws.

I think will go with a team of big bads if do a major walker threat again ...a League of Villains so to speak because past Bolas and Ugin no one walker is strong enough to really menace a team alone.
As for the team well Nahiri and Sorin are unlikely to be friends again and Ob is not a fan of Nahiri.
Tezz got beat by Jace already he cannot be a main bad unless he walks the path of Yawgmoth.
I mean maybe some of the names you mentioned we be good enough for the Old Jacetice League 1 v team but a new one with Teferi, Karn and Jaya around yeah not a chance.
Still I think Phyrexia is next. Its the most obvious threat and has build up.
