So... Pir, Domri Rade, Kari Zev and Raff Capashen? And that's... it? The only other child/teenage characters we've seen in the past decade are either dead, or snapshots of the current adult cast when they were younger.
I'm failing to see the problem with having a teenage character in Battlebond.
So... "Partners with" is a variation of an pre-existing mechanic that makes the original more complex, isn't very intuitive and does more stuff than actually listed in the card?
Holy crap, it's the second coming of "Bands with other".
Eh Raff is like 18 at youngest. He hardly be in the same class as Domri and Pir.
Someone from WotC said he was still a teenager, though I don't remember who. And if it was someone who wasn't from the story team (I have a feeling it was Maro), then they might not even be right about that.
So yeah, I'm seeing, at most, 4 characters in Magic who are less than 20 years old? Not exactly "too many".

Edit: remembered one more
The kid shown is probably about 10 years old. Hardly a "teenager", more like a child. Also a few is too many for me, plain and simple.
What I'm failing to see is why so many get their knickers in a bunch when someone doesn't feel the same way as the majority? I've stated I don't want to see childish characters and Pokemon level cards in Magic. You need to just accept the way I feel about it and move on. Its unhealthy to dwell on a lone dissenting voice. We all aren't drones. End of discussion really. You cannot and will not change my mind. Some people don't like some things. Can we drop it?
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.

Fun little couple. I enjoy the synergy and like more partner commanders. I am, however, deeply apprehensive of partner missing (the most relevant imo) part of its rules text.

Fortunately the part of the reminder text they chose to omit does nothing after deck construction, so its not like you forget to do part of the action midway through your game. It's mostly a "wait how do you have two commanders?" followed by "oh, I didn't know that, maybe I'll check those out and build a deck later."

People get curious about weird things and like to poke at them. An opinion that stands out is weird. So people poke at it. They're not necessarily trying to get you to change your mind.
And disagreement conversations are usually more interesting than agreement conversations. There's more back and forth.
Myself, I'm curious what you mean by "Pokemon level cards".
I need to hit the breaks on the hype train for those who thinks what it does a lot of people makes this mistake
Read hardening scales it's the exact same thing but this dude is for everything
And that simple difference is a world of difference when the ‘everything’ includes planeswalkers. A permanent type that tends to put counters on itself to build up to a big ultimate ability. And turning planeswalker +1 loyalty abilities to +2 loyalty ... can be a big deal.
So this makes planeswalker ults hit sooner, which Hardened Scales and Winding Constrictor don’t. Another permanent type that this hits that builds up to a grand finale ability? Sagas.
I really badly dislike cards that refer to specific other cards.
This is lazy and kills any deck building if you simply have to play them together, its really really bad.
----
Artwork is annoying as best, but oh well, as long as this is just a one time thing of an artist, i write it off as art i dont like but that wont hurt much.
----
What the card does beside that stuff the green one seems to be the most playable one even without its blue partner.
But not really outstanding, still annoys me to see this card getting played (its like a "kid" and looks way too much like a card stolen from Hearthstone, and i despise Heartstones artwork).
----
Anyway, not really hyped for "partner" cards, at least the partner for Commanders allowed you to mix/match them as you liked, still somewhat limited to other partner cards, but this approach here with the forced specific card is just terrible design and should be avoided like the plague.
Well I think they learned 4 Color is simply too strong. You get a bonus card compared to your opponents. Although maybe the bigger problem is 4 color simply became themeless good stuff decks with the old partner commanders generating pure advantage. Thrasios & Tymna being among the worst in multiplayer. I have heard Vial and Kraum were similarly awful in 1 v 1 granted only 3 color.
2 Color Partner Pairs are probably too weak especially cause they seem to have a theme more then pure win.

Fair enough. As to my comment the flavor, the new goofy mechanic and the overall child-like artwork gives it a total air of juvenile-ness that I liken to games like Pokemon (or that other one I can't even think of the name of) that are aimed, catered and designed for players from 8 to 12 years old. Personally I'd like to keep Magic more "mature" and again that is from a personal standpoint. If it becomes too childlike I won't spend my money on it, and I can guarantee I probably buy a lot more product than the average 10 year old. Again its just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. Its really best if we move on.

A lot of truth in that.
Magic just needs to know whats good about it.
Theres countless other games that fill in the roles that Magic really doesnt need to touch and should stay away from, otherwise its just imitating (poorly even) and not innovating its leading role it should have.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Pir works with planeswalkers coming into play and using abilities?
You are half right. Pir affects when a spell or ability puts counters on a permanent. Planeswalkers gaining counters as they enter play is an ability, so it is affected. However, when activating the loyalty ability of a planeswalker, adding (or removing) a counter is a cost rather than an ability, so you cannot activate Karn's +1 and add 2 counters.

This is incorrect, read earlier posts in this thread to see the correct information.
Pir doesn't care about effects, he cares about placing counters on cards. And when you do, you add one more. This is a specific difference in his text from Doubling Season.

Not to mention one of the Rules Guys from WOTC specifically saying it DOES add a counter when activating Loyalty Abilities
I'm pumped to see the Black/Green one. Hopefully the green one is like a Plant Elemental and the black one is a Zombie Lich... that would be a ridiculous partnership
In Golgari that could be a single character. Both Zombies and Plants are put into the soil. There is a strong thematic connection and we've seen it come up a lot. I'd call it cliché by now.

Yeah sadly I don't think this helps us with any more variety in the four-color combinations.
Also would have been sweet if they could have gotten Gabor Szikszai to do the art for Zoltan Boros's partner guy for old times' sake.
