The Gatewatch nearly disbanded after their defeat, and we got our first case of someone leaving the roster. The confidence of everyone involved was severely shaken, and it took Gideon several chapters to recover from his injuries. And that's just the immediate consequences. Jace's advenure on Ixalan happened because of the Gatewatch's defeat, which in turn lead to Jace recovering his memories, and might've affected whether or not Tezzeret was able to snag the Immortal Sun. Failing to kill Bolas before killing the last of Liliana's demons leads to her having to work for Bolas, making the Gatewatch's next attempt that much harder. And I'm sure there's more I've forgotten, or that hasn't been revealed yet.
Death is not the only possible "real consequence" in a story. Any writer who thinks it is is a terrible writer. It's alarming how many people on these forums don't realize this. Nobody dies in The Empire Strikes Back, for example, but it'd be ridiculous to claim that it had no "real consequences".

There is a certain finality to death that is appealing when looking for consequences that seem dire. Having said that, it often feels like the masses want a "Red Wedding" every time consequences must be felt to the main cast. That is, honestly, completely unreasonable since it takes years to make people like and care for characters. Throwing them away at the drop of a hat is wasteful and lame.

And this whole notion of doing it Game of Thrones style is also absurd. I find resorting to character deaths to build tension and illustrate consequence to be lazy, uninspired and the path of least resistance. Just because it's popular with the low attention spans of TV audiences doesn't make it the way to go with these stories. Far from it.
I admire Magic for making deaths final, for the most part, and a gray area where it makes sense (Theros). Having an underworld like Theros be the exception and not the rule, and only because it makes sense per the source material, was a wise move on Creative's part.

The problem is that WotC are also the Kings of Retcons of their own stories. :/
Let's look Teferi for example. When I was around time spiral, I knew that for make the mending and save the multiverse he did a huge sacrifice. He lost the spark. He became mortal and die ultimately of old age. That was a huge cost, a real consequence for his actions.
...and after 60 years of that event, not only Teferi didn't age almost at all, but he even gained his spark back again. And why so? Simply because Teferi is popular amongst players and bring him back as a creature wasn't apparently good enough for the marketing.
...what a "Meh" :/
I can't admire WotC because you can't really trust it entirely through the end.
That's valid. I wasn't around for the older lore. I started with Dark Ascension and am most familiar with Theros and Kamigawa. My two favorite aspects of lore. I also admire Jace's back stories. But yeah I can see the issue there.
...and after 60 years of that event, not only Teferi didn't age almost at all, but he even gained his spark back again. And why so? Simply because Teferi is popular amongst players and bring him back as a creature wasn't apparently good enough for the marketing.
Teferi was never going to age much. His disassociation with time had nothing to do with his planeswalker spark, and everything to do with his experience being trapped inside a slow time bubble. This is why Teferi essentially hasn't aged, but why Jaya has (Jhoira and Jodah have similarly not aged, and neither have ever been planeswalkers).
Admittedly, the way they chose to give him back his spark was a bit of an ass-pull, but it was kind of necessary for him to be able to help the Gatewatch against Bolas, and I can kind of understand them maybe not having the time to spend the better part of a larger arc regaining his spark when there are other more important stories to tell. Considering the consequences of The Mending, it's not as if it suddenly returns Teferi to his previous status, either. He still doesn't have the power to return Zhalfir to Dominaria, he just regains the ability to travel from plane to plane. Most of the consequences of Teferi sacrificing his spark in the first place remain intact.
I hope that the spoilers this Friday will be worth it because the lands were enough of a disappointment after the long wait I really don't want another one two weeks before release date.
Maybe they spoil what plains walkers will be in m19 and the commander set and that next year they will release next years commander anthology in the winter were it belongs.

I don't really think the Eldrazi and Amonkhet was "drop of a hat", it doesn't get much bigger that that. That's like Urza and pals blowing up Yawgmoth and then all grabbing a beer, a bit shaken but otherwise well. And yeah, killing off characters is "wasteful" because they help drive sales...
Ajani really needs his time to shine. Jace is a fan favorite cuz he's blue and emo and mysterious, Garruk is MIA and evil, Liliana has been a driving force effecting lots of plot lines, Chandra got a spot light, has an awesome card, and we met her family, but what's going on with da catfolk!!!??

He's recruiting planeswalkers to join the fight against Bolas.
Maybe in the interim between Dominaria and the actual showdown with Bolas on Ravnica, we can see a set or two focusing on Ajani doing this.
Y'all want them to communicate more openly, respond to everything and be more transparent, yet you immediately go at their throats like a pack of wolves if one person at WotC says one single word that isn't completely true at its strictest definition. It's something to think about as a community.
It's more for them to communicate openly and accurately rather than just throw random words at us to stimulate us as though we're a Pavlov experiment.

You completely missed my point. I can see how I might not have been clear.
If every single little word out of every WotC representative is going to be held over them as a promise and a guarantee, and we as a community reach for our pitchforks every time they slip or god forbid there is a delay or change of plan, we heavily incentivise them to say as little as possible and keep everything secret for as long as possible, wouldn't you agree?
Someone said "early May", and then it turned out to be May 18th, just a few days late, probably because of some delay for which we don't know the reason. And now some of you act as if they stole your lunch. There really is no need to complain at any and every little miniscule opportunity. People complain about WotC as if someone is keeping score. They do mess up a lot of things these days, I agree, but this right here is such a small thing that it's just ridiculous to get upset about it. Save your riots for the next Masters set or profit driven ban list changes or something.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
The fact we wait until May 18th to know a single thing about C18 is the problem here, so yes, we are coming with pitchforks. Some of us don't care about Core Sets or Dominaria and certainly not about Battlebond or any of these other products. We're a few months away from a set/block releasing that we don't even have a title for.

Ixalan was announced on June 14th.
We are right on track for announcing the fall set.
Core 2019 was announced in June of 2017. The set is not due out until July. We have a ways to go before we get any more details on the set.

Honestly I'd like a bit of Garruk more than Ajani right now as we haven't seen him since M15. Maybe he'll be hunting someone that Ajani wants to recruit? That'd be a nice two for one in the story department.

Not only that Wizards has said they are tightening up on official spoilers happening until closer to the product, we won't see anything until a few week before. Gone are the day they would show off all the face legendary 9 months before at a pax or Comic con. Heck only reason we know about last years so early is because someone got the dragon deck early and the cat deck face got leaked.

I agree they’re tightening things up and at this point we only have 2 weeks of spoilers (and not our old three weeks for larger sets). I feel like in about 2-3 years from now spoiler season won’t exist anymore and all the set contents will be a “surprise” at the prerelease. They just say this set will have a prerelease on this date but not give us information and let us open it up At prerelease. May seem like a bizarre theory but wouldn’t put it past them.

I wonder if they will touch on Garruk now that Liliana's contract defaulted and is fully under Bolas' control. Supposedly Lily made him go mad to my understanding so we're bound to have a story highlight--or at least a chapter's worth of content--on Garruk.

Early May =May 1-7, let's say. Maybe up to the 12th or so.
18th is about 14 days past early May.
If I promised a revision by early May then sent it in mid-May, I'd get sued, and rightfully so. I don't think we're necessarily jumping down people's throats, but they need to leverage comms a bit better. When it wasn't done by the first week, anyone should have just popped on Twitter and said:
"Ok guys, here's what happened. We are really pressed for Battlebond release (or reasons) so the Announcement Day will be mid-May. As a token of appreciation, he's a cool sorcery spell from Battlebond!"
That would have been great, the preview a classy touch, and overall better than the near-radio silence we had on the issue.

Liliana cursed Garruk with The Chain Veil, and the curse both drove him mad and almost transformed him into a demon like what had happened to Ob Nixilis. The only reason Garruk isn't a demon now is because Jace intervened and stuck the same hedron in Garruk that suppressed Ob Nixilis while Nixilis was on Zendikar.
If Garruk were to ever get involved in Liliana's plot again, it would probably center more around the Chain Veil than anything else.

Based on this sites wiki Garruk had killed a planeswalker, nicknamed "Icy" by Garruk, who tried to bring him back to Avacyn to be healed, before Shadows over Innistrad, and planeswalked away to somewhere unknown.
It's hard to say whether or not Garruk is still PW hunter or not as he wanted to be left alone just before killing "Icy".

Actually the Planeswalker sent by Avacyn was Vronos, who was from Innistrad and planeswalked to Esper. After spending some time on Esper, he returned to Innistrad and Avacyn tasked him with tracking down Garruk after that.
"Icy" was another planeswalker who was hired to track Garruk down. It's been a while since I read that story so I don't recall who hired him, but the wiki says Vronos hired him, so I'll go with that. Of course, Icy got murdered by him too.

Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).

Return to Lorwyn or Kamigawa - unlikely but I would be pleased with either as well.
Ravnica or Tarkir and I'm hoping WOTC get the dusty end of the Thanos snap.
