When I saw this in the FAQ I thought it was going to be a rare, given the current state of things. Glad to see Dominaria is the beginning of the change.
Kind of expected Liliana to struggle a bit against Belzenlok, but apparently she just finishes him off easily like the rest of her demons. Not going to lie, it seems pretty boring...

We don't know how this one plays out, but at face value, it does seem par the course. Razaketh wasn't as easy as Griselbrand and Kothophed though, since she would have been ****ed without the Gatewatch.
Then again, I'm still betting on Liliana being the one who ends up In Bolas's Clutches.
I'm pretty sure this was a rare in the second set before it became Core '19. I wouldn't take this (or any of the other crazy uncommons) to mean that they're handling uncommon cards any differently.
It's definitely neat. Probably won't see any more play than Hour of Glory does.
I know many are going to trash this card because "zomg sorcery speed is bad" but exiling the target creature is useful and two loyalty counters is a lot--most planeswalkers in Standard right now have abilities which are either +1 or +2, so that is like getting an extra activation that turn.
I think there's a lot more nuance to that. Those counters aren't always going to be as good as another activation. If it lets you do back to back - abilities, that's relevant, but it's not the same as doing a second + ability because most of the value from + abilities is the actual effect, not the loyalty counter gain.
There's something to be said about the extra counters protecting the planeswalker, but the removal spell is already doing that and a more efficient removal spell or a board wipe would do that better than +2 counters.
It may open lines of play where you can start to realistically threaten an ult, I suppose, but it seems to boil down to the specific planeswalker you're putting counters on because the value of those counters is going to vary wildly.

Since Settle the Score is double-black, one presumes that the planeswalkers mostly likely being used are Death's Majesty and Relic Seeker. With the former you probably used +1 on turn 5 for a zombie token and 6 loyalty, so Settle the Score on turn 6 exiles a creature, allows the ult to blow up all non-zombies, then +1 again for another zombie. With the latter, +2 on turn 6 for a pirate and 8 loyalty, then exile a creature and ultimate on turn 7 to send your opponent to 1. I can't see it being used with any other planeswalker....maybe Torch of Defiance because of the extra mana ability, but we'll just have to see. What will most likely happen is that the card will help win games of Limited/Sealed then disappear from existence altogether.
I am not even going to begin to try and analyze this card for Modern. The general consensus is probably "unplayable" but this spell should work very nicely with either Veil or Last Hope".
I think betting on Liliana NOT being free after killing Belzenlock is pretty much a given, right? Like the card, interesting that they are more willing now to put "planeswalker"-related effects on cards other than rares and mythics.
Well, if you take into consideration the name of the last storyline spotlight card...

She is the most likely one to be clutched, but it could be anyone or anything considering it gains control of permanents.

It's not Blackblade and probably not the Weatherlight. Seems to be a person and not an object, and Lili's deal was brokered by Bolas in the first place, so he could readily claim her for "breach of contract." Which still makes me wonder how Lim-DûlLeshrac the totally original and not anyone's secret identity Raven Man fits in.
I'm surprised they resolved her demon arc so quickly, and alongside early development of the Gatewatch and other events they had going on, such as Eldrazi and all that. IDK.

If we're interpreting things correctly the Demons were just catspaws. She thinks she's free but that's far from the case.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Yup, doesn't mean it was good before. I would argue it was 'less bad' because fewer people could actually find, buy and read the novels. Now that you can read online they're just ruining the story for those who care to follow it. I'm sure not everybody that reads feels that way, but that is how I felt and one of the reasons I stopped reading (though not my main reason).
The elegant solution would be not to have cards that spoil major plot points, instead having cards that just give hints of what is about to happen (like a card where Lili is about to enter Belzenlok's lair, or something to that effect). But nope. Let's just spoil every plot point. The other elegant solution would be to just have the story told before the set is spoiled, so you are actually rewarding people who care to read it by having they know what happen before people who buy the cards.
Now, will WoTC adopt elegant solutions? Of course not. Better to just spoil everything in the cards and ruin any chances of surprising my readers. Just good moves.

This is what Ive advocated for a while, specifically since the advent of Story Spotlight cards. It would make much more sense to have the last story spotlight "Story" the day before that card is spoiled or the rest of the mass dump on Th/Fri. This of course would be in the course of a 'normal' spoiler season (not icluding foil sheet or Note leaks).
It could all be rolled out much more effectively with stories and card spoilers if a little bit of timing effort would be put into it. but hey WOTC....they are busy and understaffed for a multimillion dollar company to actually organize these things

You're assuming that the primary vehicle for story is the novels, the cards are a supplement, and you don't wan the supplement to ruin the main story. WotC is fairly explicitly taking the reverse approach. The primary vehicle is the cards; anything else is the supplement.

I mean, it has only been going on for 11 years and she killed the first one 7 years ago. It is actually nice that the plots are moving forwards now. Say what you want about "The Gatewatch ruining magic" at least we are getting actual storylines now as opposed to "The Eldrazi are eating Zendikar, but we won't deal with that for the next half a decade while we start two new storylines about Elspeth that end on cliffhangers and won't be revisited for half decades either.

No, the Elegant solution would be to have the Story Spotlight cards Spoiled...IN THE STORY THEY HAPPEN IN and not have the majority of the stories come after the set is released.
And she's not even using the Chain Veil....seems too easy
The storyline moment shows the culmination of her efforts. The moment where she gets to make a her quip. Whether the path there was easy or not should be judged on the path there. The fact that it would end the way it does was almost a foregone conclusion.
Whether a game of Magic was easy or not is not decided on whether you deal your final points of damage with a one-mana burn spell.

And a Dragon.
And a Raven.
And the Onakka Spirits.
And maybe some troublesome Gatewatch members if Lili proves to be a threat.
We don't actually know what the Raven Man is, or whether or not he is antagonistic towards Lily (signs point to no, as he has warned her multiple times, even if she refuses to listen).
As for Bolas. Even with the veil she will not stand a chance against a 30k year old elder dragon planeswalker who is a literal god. She couldn't handle him on Amonkhet with support from four other planeswalkers, she has no chance against him alone. Fortunately for her, Bolas mostly lets his minion planeswalkers do their own thing as long as they do the occassional job for him that is suited to their abilities and don't antagonize him.
The Onakke spirits are tied to the veil.
Sure. Can you please respond to the other 80 % of my reply for you?

A lot of cards have depicted major story elements. Have since the Weatherlight saga. Unless you think Death Stroke, Unmask, Ascendant Evincar, Phyrexian Arena, and Vindicate weren't all major story spoilers. Even Curiosity if you're into puns.
