I think betting on Liliana NOT being free after killing Belzenlock is pretty much a given, right? Like the card, interesting that they are more willing now to put "planeswalker"-related effects on cards other than rares and mythics.
I know many are going to trash this card because "zomg sorcery speed is bad" but exiling the target creature is useful and two loyalty counters is a lot--most planeswalkers in Standard right now have abilities which are either +1 or +2, so that is like getting an extra activation that turn.
What a cringeworthy flavor text, and seems like a major story spoiler as well. Glad I gave up on following MTG's storyline.
Card itself is neat, quite powerful if you have a planeswalker around, but sorcery speed makes it a lot worse. Not sure on this one. I'm guessing it is not going to see play.

Its fine in limited, but Vraska's Contempt has it beat in many ways for standard

If it was instant man would it be so much better but also very broken. End of turn cast this, next turn ultimate pretty much any relevant PW that you can.

She didn't read the Fine Print from Nicol Bolas on that one. Or the Raven Man, Assumes Full Control.
Course if Lili does actually strike the final blow it really makes you wonder wtf the other characters are doing. Hey 25 years guys we are bringing back Teferi, Jaya, Jhoira, Karn, and Jodah to stand around while Lili strikes down another Demon?
This plus Oath of Teferi though will lead to some fast ults though for Esper Decks. Which Walkers are especially deadly with an instant ult essentially.
You don't need to control a planeswalker to cast this spell, right?
Correct. The spell only targets the creature. So you can certainly cast it without controlling any planeswalkers.
Added bonus, if you control more than one planeswalker your opponent won't know which one you are putting the loyalty counters on until it resolves.

Spoiler? Dude, we've known she was going to kill this demon from day one. Her whole story revolves around killing demons.

Point of order, we knew the demon was dying now whether Lili got the final hit in was of course debatable.
The 2/2 pirate token with Menace that Vraska spit out the previous turn should hopefully do the trick.
Assuming They have 2 creatures or less when you start the combo?
Or if you have another creature on the board besides the pirate token. Either way, unless the opponent has some serious lifegain, they aren't going to last long at 1 life.
Considering that the set gets a full spoiler well before the entire story is published, the spotlight cards are guaranteed to be spoilers.
(After seeing the fallout from this, I have to wonder what reactions to the full spoiling of In Bolas's Clutches will be like, whomever is in the clutches.)
It's worth noting that many players prioritize whether to attack a planeswalker based on how close the 'walker is to its ult. Plenty of ults are going to get fired off with this card because the other player thought they had an extra turn or two to deal with it.

Glad to see that, when it comes to the Gatewatch, everything remains predictable and boring.

It has nothing directly to do with the Gatewatch. Liliana's demon-slaying quest has been a plot running far longer than the Gatewatch has existed. What comes after that for her story is still an unknown.
Also, and I'm going to inject my personal feelings on it, I enjoyed Jace's story in Ixalan and I'm OK with Liliana's (and even Gideon's to some extent) characterization in Dominaria.

I know that Liliana's quest is not part of the Gatewatch's mission (necessarily), but she is a member of the Gatewatch. That is what I was referring to. Though I stopped reading the storyline before Amonketh came out, so I have no idea how it is. I just know that Origins, BFZ, OGW, SOI and EMN had mostly terrible stories whenever any character of the Gatewatch was involved in any shape or form. The legendary creature standalones were usually much better, but the overall writing quality was low either way.

Also, this would be run alongside Vraska's Contempt, not instead of. Maybe a 3 Contempt/2 Settle the Score or 4/2 split?
I don't think the writer of this flavour text and the story writer are the same individuals.
While I am tempted to say that this should have been an instant, maybe that planeswalker boon will be good for something.
Vraska and Tetsuko. Although if you drop them to one you should have some way to finish them.
Two loyalty counters is insane.
