I know this doesn't relate directly to the card, but does anyone know if Dakkon Blackblade is still alive in the lore and if there's any chance he'll ever show up as a card again?

Unlikely, he was a mortal. Korlash is likely his descendant though, as he was future-shifted and has not seen print. I doubt we'll see anything with the Grandeur ability anytime soon, but his descendant before he became a zombie is definitely a strong possibility.
On one hand it is really nifty that Gids is getting a totally awesome loretastic weapon. On the other hand I am really sad he isn't ever getting his surall back, I like exotic weapons.
I've always enjoyed Dakkon's lore and Korlash, Heir to Blackblade is one of my favorite cards. I hope Gideon and Jacetice League don't somehow screw up such an interesting piece of Dominaria.
This is actually a really interesting development and makes for some odd possibilities for the future of Gideon cards.
Look at the art for that weapon. Does that weapon look pure or does it look evil? And the most recent printing of a card with Blackblade in the name was a mono-black creature.
Calling it now, the next Gideon is gonna be WB, corrupted by his new weapon.

That reminds me. Grandeur would have been a nice fit for Dominaria. I wonder why it didn't make it.
The Elder Dragon it was used on was named Piru, and it was wielded at that time by a guy named Dakkon.
It was never used on Bolas, but it looks like that's about to change.
If I recall my random Vorthos knowledge, I think it was a sixth elder dragon that didn’t have a card.

Piru was a "lesser Elder" but yes, that's the situation.
