You know, this card reminds me of male privilege in a nut shell. Dudes come in here all heated and complain about her hairstyle non-stop. I've seen it in this page, and in real life. (LGS of all places) Can you tell me with one-hundred percent confidence, that if a beautiful woman (in your eyes) came up to you with this hairstyle, and confessed her undying love for you- That you'd turn her down?! "Sorry, sweetie. I won't date girls who cut their hair like you do." That's a real fantasy right there.
Furthermore, you know what? Not every single woman has to have her hair styled in a way that is attractive to you. She wasn't put on this earth, (or any other in the multiverse) to be looked at. In fact- she's not required to do anything at all in order to be attractive to you. It's not her job to be pretty. It's her job to make creatures with power, or toughness, equal to one- unblockable.
Since we're on topic. You know what hairstyle bothers me? Female knights and angels with super long hair. That's an excellent way to have your hair pulled, while someone else is chopping your head off. This style, or an old fashioned bob is probably best for the type of combat they'd see. Can you imagine getting all that hair inside a helmet? Pfft, fat chance. You'd need an oversized helmet.
While I personally would never wear this style, when I see other women wearing it- they're usually a confident bada** (and after reading all this hate, I might do it simply for spite. It'll keep those types of guys away from me.)
Up until today, I've never felt the need to go on a feminist rant about anything. Once again, It's something that I always left to someone else with more confidence than me. Glad to see that my confidence has gone up.
I'd turn her down by virtue of my homosexuality. And frankly, Vorthos care about art. So yes, her appearance is relevant to us. I don't care as much for this art for her, I can think of many pieces of Kamigawa or styles of artists I'd have preferred to this. I understand she's meant to look hard or rugged like a rogue, and I do love her having the jitte and a nice outfit. But having the same hairstyle as another legend, which isn't terribly elegant for so such a desired character and clashes with her neat outfit is kinda lame. Especially after seeing how neat and aristocratic the artwork for things like Soratami and all that from Kamigawa are.
Pretty sure I trashed males for looking old, dirty, too burly or unattractive as well. People can like whatever they want. And dislike things all the same. Her being a female character doesn't make her immune to criticism.
Thank you for your reply. It was well thought out and respectful. Clearly, the question in my first statement wouldn't apply to someone who isn't interested women. I did say "(In your eyes)" but you're correct, that doesn't quite cover all the bases. In that case, I apologize.
I may be bias by the virtue of my own homosexuality, but I see the hairstyle as quite powerful- but only on the right people. You have to have good bone structure to wear that style and rock it. Not everyone can wear it. Tetsuko does- very well.
Your point about her hairstyle being shared with another legend. There are plenty of women legends with long hair in this set, and I don't see a single complaint about that. So clearly, It's more about this hairstyle than anything else. There are only so many hairstyles to begin with. I'm not a hairstylist, but this does appear to be some direct bias towards the style in particular.
When it comes to basing a women's appearance, I really do believe that in this day in age- people should be a little more careful about how they word it. With all the bull that has happened over the last 12 months. People need to learn to be a bit more respectful, perhaps- stop judging people (or art) based on appearance.
No problem, of course. For me, the hairstyle seems too modern for a character depicted in the pre-industrial era that she's in for a fantasy game about magic. That clash and real-world modern influence makes it more difficult to connect with the setting.
Some sort of Grixis deck I suppose and a way to get extra combat steps. Of course, the problem is that three color combo doesn't have the protection for a deck running a lot of 1 toughness creatures.
Dive Down and Supernatural Stamina; the latter card won't protect, in and of itself, but it does make the first removal spell pointless.

I didn't mean Tetsuko herself I meant stopping someone from killing all your one toughness creatures and tokens with a single creature or ability. Green and White have better cheap mass protection options.

I complain about that hairstyle because it's significantly asymmetrical, which inherently draws attention to itself. I don't like this hairstyle on women or on men, but it just so happens that we've seen almost no male characters with that hair (the only one I've noticed was Hallar), despite having been used at least 7 times on art we've seen so far - Tetsuko, Danitha, and a bunch of elves. I'm frankly sick of it.
And it's not just women who are having their appearance commented on - there was a fair bit of mockery in the Naban thread as well as praise for Jodah's good looks in his thread. The only reason I didn't comment in the Naban thread is that I couldn't quite decide what Disney villain he most looked like.
Furthermore, you know what? Not every single woman has to have her hair styled in a way that is attractive to you. She wasn't put on this earth, (or any other in the multiverse) to be looked at. Here's the thing: every time a character is drawn, the artist's intentions can be boiled down to "this character is supposed to be attractive", "this character is supposed to be ugly", or "this character is supposed to be average". If the artist failed to actually make something attractive when it was supposed to be, it's all the more noticeable compared to, say, Dauntless Bodyguard, which is perfectly content with its mediocrity.
If an artist is clearly attempting to draw an attractive character, then yes, that character was "put on this earth" to be looked at. I'll stop objectifying fictional characters when they actually start having thoughts of their own and aren't an artistic representation of a game mechanic. So long they don't have feelings to hurt, commenting on their looks is fair game.
If you're going to complain, it makes more sense to complain about the artists that keep trying to make their female characters look like supermodels while being more than content to have mediocre male characters. We're far more likely to start commenting on male appearances if they weren't mostly bland by design.
Oh, and if a beautiful woman confessed her love for me (regardless of hair) I'd take a step back, analyze my escape options, and question who the crap she is.

Alright. Let's return this conversation to something more civilized. I really like the card, and I'm planning on building an EDH deck surrounding the character. It's been rough, I've spent three days mulling over cards trying to find the perfect fits. While I knew it'd be hard to build a mono-blue aggro weenies styled build- I didn't think it'd be this hard!

Worst part is, most blue weenies are naturally evasive, flying, shadow and skulk all appear a lot on tiny blue dudes. I really second the point made above about putting her in the 99 for Edric.

Yes, yes I would. 100% that is my choice, a woman doesn't get to demand for me to be attracted to them Physically and a hairstyle like that is not only physically ugly, it tells me that she is something who would claim sexism for not liking a hair style and a relationship with someone like that wouldn't work out on my end.

No, no they don't but if they aren't attractive to me then that is my right to not be attracted to them, I wasn't put down on the multiverse to bow down to her fashion choices, it is a courtesy that I extend to females, If they are not attracted to me I accept that and move on, they should show me that same level of respect.
As for Tetsuko's job..she does her job okay, however her hairstyle makes her look like something out of Shadowrun or Tumbler than Dominaria, which is a real problem.

I agree. You're definitely right about the Edric thing. She'd probably be best in the before mentioned 99. It's also access to a second colour, which is always huge. I really like Tetsuko though. She (In a way) reminds me of Shinsuke Nakamura, which made me want to make some sort of "Queen of Strong Style" EDH. My best friend Is a lifelong fan of wrestling, and tried to get me into it recently. I've watched the last couple wrestlemania's with him. (That's it though) Which is why I thought it'd be amusing to make some sorta "Kick to Face" deck.

Anyway, I don't really care that much about her hair. While it's a shame that she can't be used in Doran EDH, Edric EDH will eat her right up.
