Wait...an uncommon legend? Wow, this really is a throwback to Kamigawa! Pity she doesn't work with great grandpappy Toshi though. But Ninjas would like her!

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Wait...an uncommon legend? Wow, this really is a throwback to Kamigawa! Pity she doesn't work with great grandpappy Toshi though. But Ninjas would like her!
There are several uncommon legends in this set. Historic cards matter (historic cards being Sagas, artifacts and legendary cards) is a theme in Dominaria.
Exactly was my thinking as well. The only card in my Sygg deck that doesn't get effected is Sire of Stagnation, but its strong even if it doesn't attack.
Very flavourful, and it kind of actually makes me want to try out a brawl deck with her.
Unfortunate that there isn’t a single blue or colourless creature in the Standard cardset with 1 toughness and higher power-than-cmc. White and green and black have plenty of 2-mana 3/1s, which would be great to use with this, if only they could be played in a brawl deck that had this as a general. Blue does not. In blue you basically never do better than N power for N mana. And even if you go unblockable it’s hard to win a race like that.
Nice card in an even nicer set. This set will not be forgotten like all the crapp before it.
Wish richard garfield could stay and work on more sets. That man is the only reason dominaria will be great.
I hope wizards learned a few things on buildings sets now.
Because if they go from hero with garfield to zero with rosewater again it is seriously going to be cost them this time.
Yes please. The design sensibilities in this set feel a lot more fresh and a lot let by the numbers than they have in a long time. Sadly I'm sure Garfield is probably going to leave to work on other things but I hope that R&D takes notes. (Sadly, again, I doubt they will.)

I know I honestly wonder if part of the problem might be emphasis on draft concerns. I do get the feeling that for the most part, commons and uncommons are made for draft, rares for constructed. It's not a possibility that sits well with me; I feel like uncommons, at least, should be nuts-and-bolts material for constructed, not be rendered pointless after the draft game. And we certainly have the former with this set, with all the uncommon legends, not to mention things like Damping Sphere.
(Do we know when WotC started making draft a major concern? I'm thinking that the latest would be Zendikar, considering the infamous Lotus Cobra was probably made mythic precisely because of draft concerns.)
Huh. I don't know of anything my ancestors over 1300 years ago supposedly said. Impressive.
However, I like the card.
That's fair, although I'd consider this - we know what Achilles said in Troy from times before Christ himself, who I know we quote every Sunday from millenia ago - so who knows how she remembers Toshi, but he's a pretty memorable guy.
After reading the article just now I kinda wish they kept her name Rumiko actually. Regardless, can't wait to get this card.
Tetsuko is a nickname used for female train nerds in Japan. Rumiko would have been better. And the haircut is awful. She looks like some bland podcaster.
You know, this card reminds me of male privilege in a nut shell. Dudes come in here all heated and complain about her hairstyle non-stop. I've seen it in this page, and in real life. (LGS of all places) Can you tell me with one-hundred percent confidence, that if a beautiful woman (in your eyes) came up to you with this hairstyle, and confessed her undying love for you- That you'd turn her down?! "Sorry, sweetie. I won't date girls who cut their hair like you do." That's a real fantasy right there.
Furthermore, you know what? Not every single woman has to have her hair styled in a way that is attractive to you. She wasn't put on this earth, (or any other in the multiverse) to be looked at. In fact- she's not required to do anything at all in order to be attractive to you. It's not her job to be pretty. It's her job to make creatures with power, or toughness, equal to one- unblockable.
Since we're on topic. You know what hairstyle bothers me? Female knights and angels with super long hair. That's an excellent way to have your hair pulled, while someone else is chopping your head off. This style, or an old fashioned bob is probably best for the type of combat they'd see. Can you imagine getting all that hair inside a helmet? Pfft, fat chance. You'd need an oversized helmet.
While I personally would never wear this style, when I see other women wearing it- they're usually a confident bada** (and after reading all this hate, I might do it simply for spite. It'll keep those types of guys away from me.)
Up until today, I've never felt the need to go on a feminist rant about anything. Once again, It's something that I always left to someone else with more confidence than me. Glad to see that my confidence has gone up.

Honestly I feel like a lot of common should be viable in constructed in the right decks. Anyone who plays pauper can tell you that there are a lot of strong commons across magics history. Some of them are the nuts and bolts of constructed decks as well.
After reading the article just now I kinda wish they kept her name Rumiko actually. Regardless, can't wait to get this card.
Tetsuko is a nickname used for female train nerds in Japan. Rumiko would have been better. And the haircut is awful. She looks like some bland podcaster.
I wish Christopher Moeller were still painting for MTG and did her art. Rumiko sounds like a sad loss for an awesome named character. If we were returning to Kamigawa or at least getting some freaking Kamigawa themed cards sometime this millennium, I could look forward to seeing a Rumiko somewhere. But "Market Research" is too busy ruining this game worse than the reserve list.

Lo, is there some requisite that human (or elf, or merfolk, or...) characters be attractive?
As for the naming (which is barely a mar, and only because of the phonetic confusion possibility with Tetsuo--and yes, Tetsuko is a valid feminine name in Japan), it probably depends on what etymology you're looking for. Looking up the name Rumiko in Jeffrey's (http://rut.org/cgi-bin/j-e/FG=r/dict), I did get at least one set that looked interesting. One that reads "reality child" when translated to English (sadly, the board isn't accepting kanji right now). Now, whether this particular Rumiko is common in Japan might be another story (Jeffrey's returned about fifty names that can be read as "Rumiko").
Me, I would have gone for Sagiko, but that's just my bird mania talking (sagi=heron).

I'd turn her down by virtue of my homosexuality. And frankly, Vorthos care about art. So yes, her appearance is relevant to us. I don't care as much for this art for her, I can think of many pieces of Kamigawa or styles of artists I'd have preferred to this. I understand she's meant to look hard or rugged like a rogue, and I do love her having the jitte and a nice outfit. But having the same hairstyle as another legend, which isn't terribly elegant for so such a desired character and clashes with her neat outfit is kinda lame. Especially after seeing how neat and aristocratic the artwork for things like Soratami and all that from Kamigawa are.
Pretty sure I trashed males for looking old, dirty, too burly or unattractive as well. People can like whatever they want. And dislike things all the same. Her being a female character doesn't make her immune to criticism.

Thank you for your reply. It was well thought out and respectful. Clearly, the question in my first statement wouldn't apply to someone who isn't interested women. I did say "(In your eyes)" but you're correct, that doesn't quite cover all the bases. In that case, I apologize.
I may be bias by the virtue of my own homosexuality, but I see the hairstyle as quite powerful- but only on the right people. You have to have good bone structure to wear that style and rock it. Not everyone can wear it. Tetsuko does- very well.
Your point about her hairstyle being shared with another legend. There are plenty of women legends with long hair in this set, and I don't see a single complaint about that. So clearly, It's more about this hairstyle than anything else. There are only so many hairstyles to begin with. I'm not a hairstylist, but this does appear to be some direct bias towards the style in particular.
When it comes to basing a women's appearance, I really do believe that in this day in age- people should be a little more careful about how they word it. With all the bull that has happened over the last 12 months. People need to learn to be a bit more respectful, perhaps- stop judging people (or art) based on appearance.
Some sort of Grixis deck I suppose and a way to get extra combat steps. Of course, the problem is that three color combo doesn't have the protection for a deck running a lot of 1 toughness creatures.
Wait...an uncommon legend? Wow, this really is a throwback to Kamigawa! Pity she doesn't work with great grandpappy Toshi though. But Ninjas would like her!

I also love that in my Wrexial, the Risen Deep deck, she lets Guiltfeeder through.
