When that Dominaria trailer came out with the really ugly KPT Bryce Karn, I was hoping--praying--that the art used for this planeswalker wasn't that art...but it is. That is depressing. I love the card, but I might have to blindfold myself when I cast it, because it looks ugly.
This new Karn still disgusts me, I hate it so, SO much. Seriously, I hate that card more than anything else they have come out with, maybe since I started playing, it's just blasphemy to call it Karn.
If it's the flavour, then I don't see the issue since Karn has created robots before, and the silver counter thing is a reference to his silver allowing him to time travel. If it's the fact that he's pretty pushed, then I can see why that would be a cause for concern. Either way, I don't see how it's "blasphemy" to call it Karn.
It's none of those, least of all being pushed, he's weak and boring to my eyes. the original Walker card was amazing, a level of busted that was fitting for a former god, he could lay waste, and he worked perfectly with the Urza lands, which was a huge flavor win. Karn is an 8 foot tall metal titan, he's not supposed to be some midrange friendly 4 drop that any deck can play and it gains steady but relatively slow advantage. Karn is supposed to carry and just BE the biggest stick around. have his plus be something with creating beefy robots, have some suitably powerful time silver themed ability, it's just that he's more of a Jund card than Tron, he's so much weaker than last time. Ugin was a MUCH better Karn than this.
And before you say something about how not every Karn has to be made for Tron, I disagree. the flavor in this set is amazing, to have the greatest creation of Urza not have a home in the deck with URZA lands is just a huge fail. make him cost nine and when he drops, he could drop kick this one into the nearest star.
firstly I think this is a very good card while also being balanced. Your argument that it should be a tron card based on there being urza lands in the deck doesn't really make much sense. Cards shouldn't be designed in a way that they should slot into certain decks for only flavor reasons and flavorfully I don't think there's anything wrong with the card to begin with (based on his abilities)
And before you say something about how not every Karn has to be made for Tron, I disagree. the flavor in this set is amazing, to have the greatest creation of Urza not have a home in the deck with URZA lands is just a huge fail. make him cost nine and when he drops, he could drop kick this one into the nearest star.
I wasn't going to mention Tron.
I was going to say that Wizards has pointed out before that the planeswalker cards are basically snapshots of those walkers at various points in time. The cards don't illustrate all of the abilities those walkers have, lest they'd have a dozen loyalty abilities and be costed so highly that they'd be unplayable.
Karn at this point in time isn't trying to be a walking weapon of mass destruction (at least not yet anyway). He has abilities that are still in theme for the silver golem, but toned down.
this is also another great way of looking at it as sometimes characters can change and with that so can their abilities.
whatever. I'm just really disappointed. I have been waiting for the new Karn ever since the first time I saw the last one, and it's a letdown for me personally.

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
For the first time ever in a spoiler season, I'm legitimately sad. I look at Muldrotha and see a card that, 20 years ago, I'd have spent weeks trying to carefully craft a deck around. Now all I see is a creature that will simply die before its inherent greatness can be realized. RIP the naivety of youth.
It would take some kind of four color mess using the new white hexproof legend. I suppose you could use evolving wild to fix your mana...and then you could use the new merfolk legend as a draw engine. Maybe Board the Weatherlight would let you find the legend you need...and something like Siren Stormtamer could protect them all...
Yanno...maybe somethings never change.
...Ravenous Chupacabra seems like a must...Walking Ballista too...
What's that thing in the back of the Muldrotha art? A tail?
It's most likely one of the Thran ruins that appeared out of nowhere and apparently litter Dominaria's landscape now.
I'm kind of on the fence about them so far. They almost feel like afterthoughts in most of the images where they appear in.
I only just saw Muldrotha for the first time now, and I am already tired of seeing it in commander.
Stop hating She Bae...Karador has some competition.
Agreed, I'm more excited for her than any of the new Commanders we know about.
I love how she can pretty much just take over The Mimeoplasm's deck when I want a change.

So the Primevals, aspects of the Ur-Dragon, don't get Elder Dragon creature type but Tarkir dragons do?
I wonder if there will be a cycle of mythic Primevals....
Brainfarting, why doesn't Muldrotha just read "During your turn?"
Because then it could be misunderstood as meaning that for each permanent you get to play one card of that type during your turn for the duration it remains on the battlefield. The given wording makes it so you get to play a land of it during each of your turns not just once until you e. g. bounce and replay Muldrotha.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
There's a better picture for Karn and now also one for the token.
At first I thought that token has an armblaster - but that wouldn't be really fitting the pacifist Karn. It's a Construct doing construction on a construction site!

How is that Legacy Weapon in Tron been treating you?

Designing all iterations of Karn to have a home in the same single deck simply because he's Karn sounds like a very linear and poor design choice.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Added a nicer card image for Darigaaz, as well as a bigger version of the art.
edit: Also the art for the token. Can't attach it to the main post, though.

How did you feel about the original Karn? A 5-mana midrange 4/4 creature, Urza’s greatest creation.
If we're technical. Gerrard Capashen was Urza's greatest creation as heir to the Legacy. Including Karn. How's that 3WW 3/4 been performing in the top tier Tron lists?

the original Karn DOES bother me. Legacy Weapon isn't useful to Tron (I could make it work, but I already have PROPER Karn, so why bother?) but do you know what? it bothers me less because it has the decency to cost 7 mana. it's amazing, this 'Karn' would actually bother me less if they raised his mana cost. doesn't have to be 7, it could even be 4 and requires colorless, it just shouldn't be readily available to EVERY deck. this card is gonna be played in every Standard midrange deck until it rotates or is banned. knowing Wizards recently, I'm actually betting on a ban.

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
It's a mere card-draw engine with some protection built-in via tokens. You even only get the worst of two cards at your opponent's choice for his plus abilities. (Sure you can get the other the next turn.)
It's good, don't get me wrong, and CA in every color (and repated CA at that) *is* an absolute violation of the color pie. I still don't understand how MaRo let it slip. I do agree that it should have had that new must-be-colorless mana cost to temper it. But it's not busted the way Karn liberated was. It will be a standard staple but I would be surprised to ever see it in modern.

Original Karn is still a good card and very, very flavorfull. What's wrong with him? Also, Legacy Weapon costs 7. It's even the pinacle of Urza's craft. Based on your own logic, you have to play it in Tron.

This Karn works with the vast majority of Urza-related cards, simply by virtue of the fact that his -2 cares about artifacts, and most Urza cards are artifacts, or deal with artifacts. What of Urza's things does Karn Liberated work with? The Urzatron lands? Anything else? By your own logic, Karn, Scion of Urza is the better flavor fit.
The eyes look just bad as they are replaced by just lights.
Thats just plain wrong for Karn.
And he looks way more like a golem of Chrome rather than Silver and polished to that level its like he is a transformer car and his eyes are the headlights.
----
The artwork otherwise looks good, but Karns body is fine, even if its a bad angle to show his big body.
But the face and the strange shiny chrome look are really really ugly and out of character.
The extreme amount of blue in his color also contributes to making him look way less silver.
Its a bad art choice for Karn to do that stuff.

Creation is not the same as apprentice.
Karn is Urza’s greatest creation if we’re technical.
Gerrard was never Urza's "apprentice." Urza literally engineered Gerrard's birth, silently manipulating the genes of his ancestors for many generations. This was the Bloodline Project - Sisay, Hanna, and the Metathran all also resulted from it.
Karn is an 8 foot tall metal titan, he's not supposed to be some midrange friendly 4 drop that any deck can play and it gains steady but relatively slow advantage. Karn is supposed to carry and just BE the biggest stick around.
Karn is an intelligent pacifist. Support, defense, and creation are more fitting for him than being a beatstick, and he certainly shouldn't "lay waste".
Edit:

I wonder whether that's supused to be the Caves of Koilos - or anything story relevant... oooh... Beast of Burden!
On the tiny pic I didn't get to recognize Urza's image looking over the shoulder of his creation.

Gonna pretend that's the flavor text of the token.
