I'm sure Wizards will faithfully continue to disappoint us all with the other Planeswalker spellbooks. Watch out for Naturalize with Nissa and Fireball with Chandra.
Actually I kind of wish they did Jace Mana Leak, but... I could see Chandra with Lightning Bolt!
I think it's a nice product, especially for EDH players assembling a Blue deck (apart from Gifts Ungiven, but that one has value for Modern players). At $20, it is a much easier buy for casual players than the From The Vault series, or for someone looking for a gift to give to a Magic player.
Treat it like it is: an affordable, casual product. I won't be buying it, and I guess most people here won't either.
This actually seems pretty decent. Cant say I am much of a fan of the art but thats pretty subjective.

SonofaBith - Wizards was so excited about making the packaging for Modern Masters 2 recyclable, they decided to make most of the rares and all but 1 of the UC's recycle-bin ready too. Convenient!
I was excited when I thought everything was foil. As is, I might grab one but won't make an effort with the foil being random. The art and flavor text on some of these is fantastic, though.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).

I might trade for the Mystic Tutor and/or Counterspell to pimp out my EDH decks, but there's not enough here to make me want to buy it. To be fair, though, I'm a heavily enfranchised player with a huge collection, so it's pretty hard for reprints to be stuff I want, but don't have.
Hmm, I'm undecided. I really like the look of the cards as well as the fact that they are not all foil (oh god do I hate foils).
However, I think they could have had some more exciting cards in here: Rite of Replication, Cryptic Command. Are all "spellbook" releases going to feature only instants and scorceries? Jace's Phantasm could have been a good choice for some card type variance and may even be somewhat sought after now that its pauper legal.
I wonder what made them decide to go woithout flovor text oin the two cards with the most space for flavor text. I guess it's for the sake of elegant simplicity, but it's kind of a missed opportunity for some sassy Jace lines. Even cringey ones would fit him =)
Anyway, eight useful cards with one being a foil, value wise it's a good buy, the problem is that I dislike most of these arts and even if one of them ended up being foil I won't be too impressed by the look. They should have at least, say, Rebecca Guay's Path to Exile that kind of quality.
Otherwise a bunch of nice cards, so its a nice product if you actually want these cards to begin with or you enjoy the art.
----
That they make "random" foil cards in these otherwise pre-con style products is good, i like that as it means you actually still get some random "money" pulls from them, that sells more copies right away.
Also, what do you guys think, which part of Jace card frame means new legendary treatment? Because all spells' frames here look the same.
They've said planeswalkers will not be getting the new legendary frame treatment (probably because they already have a unique frame). I think it's stated somewhere in the release notes.
This is one of my favorite products of all time. Jace art alone is all I ever want! I must say, I love some of the selections, and the art and frames look amazing. My favorite is a Jace themed Mystical Tutor. The art on it is remarkable. I really do hope I can pick up multiples of this.
My only concerns are the random foils (I do not like foils, so I'll be disappointed if I get a foil version of a card I wanted to play) and the fact Gifts Ungiven was selected, as I don't consider it to be in theme with Jace, and I can't play it in Commander... I think it should have been Stifle or Remand or even Mana Leak. Just something else. Not too fond of the original Jace Beleren card art. It's too diarrhea on Venus.
Regardless, I want so many copies of many of these cards. The Mystical Tutor is my absolute favorite. Brainstorm looks great too. I seriously can't wait
I actually quite like the modified frame...but the art being so incredibly Jacetastic does nothing for me. Rather sad to see how they tailored this so hard to players who love Jace; seems like they potentially narrowed sales a bit by going all in on the Jace art.
Also, really disappointed that this doesn't have Rhystic Study. Although the best place for that reprint would have been Masters 25.
