He promotes a kind of ambient I personally dislike a lot. Recently he uploaded a video criticizing the She or He change to They as unnecessary, while claiming that this kind of focus on those details is not what the game needs but a good gaming experiences. The comments where full of LGBTQ hate messages and all kinds of conspiracy-like positions in where wizards is pandering SJW ideology.
While the fact is that a lot people don't feel represented by those standards, and a gender neutral product does not affect any binary person. But most importantly the quality of the game does not depend on the ideology of their designers. And to spread that idea is quite petty of him.
Not to mention he claimed wizards was going to be sold in some years, 2021, enough so that no one would care then about his video, of course again continuing this idea the game is broke, etc. All I see is an attention whore person with no evidence, sources making claims that only lower the consumer confidence, he has done this many times so I have no respect at all for his content or him as community member. And this m25 boxes claim follows his record.
The point of his message in that video was not to belittle the change, but that card quality and gameplay design should probably take a higher priority in a company in which their main product is a game sold on pieces of cardboard. If you blame anyone for exploding those topics in the comments section, blame the people making those comments.
And he's not wrong. In a time where card quality is in the toilet, multiple recent sets have been garbage fires, and Standard was a miserable pile of trash for years, Wizards has bigger and more important things it should be worried about.
As for his video, he was more or less shocked and surprised by it and in his video today, has said he has tried to replicate it (and hasn't), but had some strange anomalies with regards to foils. Either way, something is fishy with the boxes and Rudy's portrayal (in this specific case) feels like it comes from the perspective of someone concerned for success of the product rather than simply fishing for attention. I've met him in GP Vegas last year, and he actually seemed like a normal, laid back guy, who just happens to be passionate for Magic, finance, and old cards (go figure). Sure, he cranks it up to 11 for the camera on YouTube, but he's also got 125k subscribers to show for it.
I don't think the boxes are mappable I think that WoTC is doing a different method for distributing cards. If they want less volatility, they can change the spread of cards in the boxes to make fewer blow out boxes. It kills God box phenomena, but it hypothetically leads to less feel bad moments. I just don't think they have enough good mythic and rares in this set.
There may be some truth to this. I watched my shop open three cases of MM17, and every box seemed to follow the same pattern - either 3+ fetchlands, or at least two of Goyf/Lily/Snapcaster. Some boxes would have either damnation or goblin guide (but never both) and 1 fetch + 1 money mythic. The box I bought had 4 fetches and a goblin guide. It was pretty well assumed at our store that the map was set up intentionally to have fetches on one end, the mone mythics on the other, and damnation/GG one the sides so no box was a complete dud. Granted 13 boxes is a small sample, but most people seemed to have similar experiences when asked.
Given who the source is and the complete lack of corroboration, I'm going to assume that this is Rudy being Rudy.
Well, I don't know about that, my box had only 1 fetch and 1 goblin guide, my three mythics were garbage (Past in Flames, Sphinx's Revelation and Bonfire of the Damned). I was so disappointed that I still haven't even opened my second box and I'm considering waiting to resell it later at a higher price.
Thats funny because that was the EXACT contents of my second MM17 box I opened when I should have saved it after my first which had four fetches blood moon goblin guide Snappy, VoR, Cavern and a foil Snappy. I thought what the hell I did PRETTY well on the first one might as well crack this one too. Wish I wouldve saved it.
While it might not be mappable or a production thing it seems Most of the Masters sets are either God boxes or Junk, not much in the middle. Eternal had people cracking Jace,Crypt and Karakas OR like me only 2mythics that were Worldgorger and Balance.

Been a member here for over a dozen years. Playing since '95 just got lost in the twitch shuffle.
I watch the video's of Rudy everytime. And i like them. Just as i like all other channels that make video's about mtg.
But all of them have one thing in common.
You can not take everything they say for real.
Obviously. Everyone who watches Rudy’s channel knows you can’t take him seriously. He’s even a self-proclaimed scum bag, but he is entertaining.
Now, it’s pretty obvious too, that the real peeve EstravenEternal has towards Rudy has nothing to do with this box openings, but instead he/she/they/(insert other here) hates that Rudy did not push his/her/their/(insert other here) agenda in his videos, but instead expressed a sentiment many mtg players have, which is, to have Wizards focused on the game instead of ideology.
And you know what, Rudy and everybody else who shares that view are entitled to feel this way and express themselves. And doing that is not spreading hate towards LGBTQRWHTYD or whatever.
EstravenEternal seems to be the type of person that if you disagree with him/her/them/(insert other here) or think differently, than you automatically hate him/her/them/(insert other here). And that is the typical hypocritical stance coming from those pushing inclusion and demanding open-mindedness and acceptance of people with different ideas.
Also, presenting as fact, without showing any evidence, that a “ gender neutral product does not affect any binary person” is dishonest, and you know what, if designers are focused on pushing ideology instead of actually game design, then that really hurts the game, because, you know, the purpose of a game is to be a game, not a vehicle to push agendas.
Having said all that, I don’t hate EstravenEternal or anyone, and no one should be harassed because of gender, but just because you feel harassed that doesn’t always mean you are being harassed.
Warned for trolling.
Well, the entire political thing with Hasbro Corp. And their gender equality directives is a different subject. That isn't a WoTC problem as much as an entire movement sweeping through the toy industry and entertainment industry as a whole for the last three years at least.
Yeah golly I wonder why corporations would be interested in broadening their products' appeal? Anyone who thinks the trend of inclusiveness is some big SJW conspiracy or whatever is absolutely deluded. Companies want to sell their ***** to more people. More people will buy their ***** if they don't feel excluded. It's real simple, and getting undies twisted over something so meaningless and irrelevant is pathetic.
Well, this thread has gone off the rails. Anyway, before this thread gets rightfully locked, I'll say this: being perturbed by the change of "he or she" to "they" is perhaps the absolute stupidest thing I've ever heard. And then, to double down on the dumbassery, people claim that Wizards should have higher priorities, as if a simple template change was some massive undertaking that siphoned off labor hours from R&D. Magic is in the toilet right now -this is true- but it has nothing to do with a simple template change or an effort to be more inclusive. The two are unrelated, and any attempt to link them fails the common sense test.
But to get back on topic, Rudy sucks, M25 sucks, MTGS mods suck, but boxes of M25 probably are sufficiently random. Hooray for us.

Sorry I don't buy it and I don't like this kind of content promoted. If he were a trust worthy person, ok I would give him credit, after all the tin foil conspiracies he is has posted, I can't. Besides its anecdotal evidence, not actual evidence. This only helps lower the sales as he runs one of the most popular channels.
As to the state of desing, well I don't play standard, certainly I dislike that they have not acknowledged the mistakes in development with the bans. I think that kaladesh was a good set, but that promised more and could have offered more. I think Battle for zendikar was mediocre. I didn't like Amonkhet and I think its been the lowest in terms of creativity. They could have done so much more, even with the same world they created. As to ixalan I think it was too much popcorn. Eitheway Dominaria looks awesome and I deeply like all the stuff they have done, but again I am vorthos, and I play commander, so I might be biased.
Well.. my box had about $300 in rares/rare foils in it... So I can't complain on the value, though a good chunk of that is in 2 cards, Imperial Recruiter and a foil Imperial Recruiter...

Why? I understand the need for mass-market companies to go with the flow, but feeding the current hysteria of PC hashtag-fest has the right to upset people who want to be upset by it. I'm not a native English speaker, but last time I checked, "they" referred to a plural group of people, not someone sitting right in front of me.
I've had this happen with normal non-masters sets before, more than once. Buy a sealed case and chances were there'd be two boxes in there that shared most of their rares. Just like in rudy's video it was never 1:1 and there were always differences but overall I've seen this phenomenon crop up a lot over the years.
It's not really anything new I'm afraid.

There's always overlap between boxes in the runs of these sets due to the number of available cards at each rarity and such. I've seen some videos of Eternal Masters where 7 of the rares are the same. What us patrons saw along with Rudy on his video pretty much freaked him out, all of us out, and probably just about anyone else who actually understands it is an unedited video that got uploaded. I'm just glad he went back and did some more openings and that a few other people did some investigating as a response to the video. The absolute worst thing that can happen is that someone runs into that, says nothing, and then there really is a problem and it doesn't get caught until way later.
Someone has to whistle blow, whether that's some guy on youtube, a store, etc. If no one does people can be thinking their boxes are trustworthy and then get ripped off by those who know about the mapping issue. So that's basically why I think people here complaining about Rudy have basically lost their marbles and are running into the hills with conspiracy level insanity.

To be clear, this was not an unedited video, and I’m mildly curious whether he ever uploaded a version of the video without the cut between box 1 and 2 where he tidied up the piled cards (11:34ish). I’m not saying it’s evidence of foul play, but that if he is interested in debunking claims of that against him, making the uncut footage available would probably be a good idea. Otherwise people might be inclined to believe that giving himself an excuse to cut after box 1 was giving him a chance to reshoot box 2 if the first attempt had a telltale giveaway.
A few other things that give some fuel to the ‘was this a scripted hoax’ speculation:
- predicting the last card as being the only card from box 1 he hasn’t seen yet being Pact of Negation, when he also hadn’t yet seen Mikokoro.
- Triskaidekaphobia being pack 13 is either hilarious coincidence or shrewd screenwriting (or next-level trolling by WotC!).
- the jump-cut restack putting Reef Worm front and center as though to remind the viewer what the Box 1 pack 1 rare was right before opening box 2 pack 1.
Coincidence or evidence, is a matter of perspective.
You jest, and I dont want to overstate this guys importance to the world, but stunts like this do impact the bottom line.
Which is probably why he went ahead and made the apology-boxes-are-ok video in case Magic gets bought by Disney, Disney sees how his content impacts the sales, and sends the Disney assassination bots to purge his page. He can pledge his fealty to the frozen head of Walt, who is seated on a throne made out of Tree of Redemptions turned in by "no Tree guarantee" stores.

I reject your premise that there is any kind of "PC hashtag-fest." The change has no negative effect, and is in keeping with English standards. If WotC can make people feel included with a simple, reasonable template change, there's no reason not to. If the concept of inclusion itself is so abhorrent to you, then maybe you should examine why that is so. Anyway, the cards still function normally.
Finally, inclusion is not a zero sum game. There's still a place for hetero white males; no one's kicking you out.

I don't think that making it personal helps the discussion in any way.
This is not about a gay agenda or whatsoever, its the natural paradigm shift that's occurring in all the gaming industry. No one wants to be the game that wasn't open to women or lgbtq people, or that overlooked harassment cases. To affirm that the game design is crumbling because of this small changes towards equal representation, is mean, biased and not true.
No, it’s actually common sense. In a company with limited resources, if some are allocated to deal with inclusion ideologies, chances are the other departments are going to suffer, including design. That’s math for you.
And that is the point Rudy and others were trying to make.
This changes make inclusion easier while they don't affect in any way the rest of the player base, on the contrary it reflects the real life reality.
This makes laugh. The hypocrisy here is over the roof. If real life reality is relevant to push gay inclusion, why isn’t it relevant for gender representation equality? The reality we live in is not one where all leading positions are filled with women only.
To say this is ideology is unfair, is just equal treatment. But to say the reason design is bad nowadays (which in my opinion isn't true for all the latest sets)is because of this small changes is petty.
Look, many people found the use of “They” stupid. It may not be technically incorrect in the English language, but in many other languages there is no equivalent. I want to see how Wizards is going to get themselves out of that.
So, basically, at the expense of making a very small minority happy, the game is submitting itself to ridicule, and that makes a difference for many people, so saying it doesn’t make any difference is ignoring everyone who has pointed this issue.
Like many of his previous claims he has no evidence to support it, more than an anecdotal video. Likewise his claims that the mtg lost 8 million players, that sales are going down, that the company is going to be sold, etc, lack any trust worthy source.
Coming from someone who does exactly the same thing in his posts. Absolutely no proof shown. Only opinions and lies disguised as facts.
My reaction to Cash spent on this fluke could be spent on boardgames instead. For example, my M25 is gonna cost me 180€. I could have spent that on GloomHaven or videogames instead. I probably won't even get a Jace. So why did I buy a box? To get crap rares, apparently. Thanks WOTC! I hope you go broke asap.
this has got to be satire, right? if you buy a boardgame you have 0 chance of getting any return on that investment. boardgames also have limited replayability, player constraints, and are hard to transport. if you don't want to play magic that's fine but compared to boardgaming it is a dream. if you wanted a jace you should have just bought a jace, instead of buying a box. don't be mad at wotc for your own stupid decisions.
to all of the amateur financiers complaining about the value of A25, i suggest you look at the mtggoldfish breakdown. it comes to the same conclusion i have: A25 is basically worth around what it is sold for. and while the idea of not exceeding msrp might disgust you, i would implore you to find any other game or product that you can buy and then resell for anywhere close to msrp.
magic isn't an investment, it's a game. opening packs isn't a prospect, it's a gamble. wotc simply makes magic cards, they don't actually owe you anything more than that.
Wait, what? You can't be serious? I take it you don't know what Gloomhaven is. Please go take a look here or here, then come back and tell me if paying 180 euros for a box of playing cards still seems like good value for money. Also, you are enormously underestimating the resale value of board games in general. You can resell a lot of those for "anywhere close to msrp", or at the worst just trade for a similar sized game. Although yes, there could be regional variance in this. But you still have access to at least Boardgamegeek and its marketplace.
As for the box non-randomization thing... Well, that's just obviously bad now isn't it. Still remains to be seen just how bad the problem really is. I recall something like this happening before, but all the badwill WotC has generated lately makes this incident that much worse.
The notion that design is going to "suffer" because Wizards is changing gendered pronouns to "they" is pure fantasy. In fact, it's so unbelievably stupid that I have to assume anyone making that argument is either intentionally trying to muddy the waters or is completely blinded by ideology.
If anything, the change is going to open up new design space as "their" takes up less text space on a card than "his or her" especially in multiples.
Well, this thread has gone off the rails. Anyway, before this thread gets rightfully locked, I'll say this: being perturbed by the change of "he or she" to "they" is perhaps the absolute stupidest thing I've ever heard.

Finally, inclusion is not a zero sum game. There's still a place for hetero white males; no one's kicking you out.
My point is that when I play against someone, it's him or her. "They" would be a group of opponents. Also, from where do you deduce that inclusion looks abhorrent to me? I don't really give too much of a damn, I just find it a bit silly. Yes, "They" is grammatically correct, but in the context of referring to multiple people. And in French, "they" still has a gender, "Ils" for a group of guy, "Elles" for a group of girls. And if it's mixed, as per the current grammatical rules, "Ils" is used by default, which sparks a whole discussion in PC circles. So what should Wizards do to their French cards to be more inclusive? Respect the grammar or bend to yet another dictate of those who know better?
I hate PC culture and false inclusiveness fascism more than almost anyone, and even I think "they" is easier, if not grammatically correct. Now, is the inclusiveness at the expense of "white maledom"? Yes, it somewhat is. This is supposed to be escapism. People are getting kicked out of stores for "misgendering" someone or for having an playmat that "offends women."
Remember, gaming is largely made as an escape mechanism for not-athletic nerdy white men in various parts of America and Europe, and their equivalents in Asia (where nerd culture is likely more mainstream.) It is not a platform for "woeness."
Wizard is an English company, that's played by a majority of English players. The French language has it's own problems. Frenchmen I work with will openly admit is sexist. I don't think that's a problem Wizards need to try and solve.
I also know people who prefer to be addressed as "they", they are gender neutral and like to be identified as much. I find it a bit weird, but I'm going to respect their wishes because it's really not that impactful to my day to day life.

I hate how contrived and disingenuous it all is, when everything is female just to achieve a quota. The character roster is flooded with females only to find it's to push some agenda rather than something natural for a character. Really nauseating to me. "Oh it's always been this way with men prior to this" - great! Then let's fight fire with fire and repeat that mistake with a new flavor.

Just because this passed mtgsalvation lie detection doesn’t make it true.
This makes laugh. The hypocrisy here is over the roof. If real life reality is relevant to push gay inclusion, why isn’t it relevant for gender representation equality? The reality we live in is not one where all leading positions are filled with women only.
Coming from someone who does exactly the same thing in his posts. Absolutely no proof shown. Only opinions and lies disguised as facts.
If anything, the change is going to open up new design space as "their" takes up less text space on a card than "his or her" especially in multiples.
Remember, gaming is largely made as an escape mechanism for not-athletic nerdy white men in various parts of America and Europe, and their equivalents in Asia (where nerd culture is likely more mainstream.) It is not a platform for "woeness."
Some examples from the Wikipedia page on the subject:
Yes, it is grammatically correct, and it has been for the past 700 years.
