to all of the amateur financiers complaining about the value of A25, i suggest you look at the mtggoldfish breakdown. it comes to the same conclusion i have: A25 is basically worth around what it is sold for. and while the idea of not exceeding msrp might disgust you, i would implore you to find any other game or product that you can buy and then resell for anywhere close to msrp.
Yeah, except that most of the cards will plummet in value within a month's time. As I and numerous others have commented, the vast majority of the high priced cards in the set are due to abysmally low supply, not high demand. When M25 hits the market, those prices will crash and crash hard. Honestly, the packs could have sold for $3.99 each, and I would still be hesitant to buy any sealed product.
I watch the video's of Rudy everytime. And i like them. Just as i like all other channels that make video's about mtg.
But all of them have one thing in common.
You can not take everything they say for real.
Obviously. Everyone who watches Rudy’s channel knows you can’t take him seriously. He’s even a self-proclaimed scum bag, but he is entertaining.
Now, it’s pretty obvious too, that the real peeve EstravenEternal has towards Rudy has nothing to do with this box openings, but instead he/she/they/(insert other here) hates that Rudy did not push his/her/their/(insert other here) agenda in his videos, but instead expressed a sentiment many mtg players have, which is, to have Wizards focused on the game instead of ideology.
And you know what, Rudy and everybody else who shares that view are entitled to feel this way and express themselves. And doing that is not spreading hate towards LGBTQRWHTYD or whatever.
EstravenEternal seems to be the type of person that if you disagree with him/her/them/(insert other here) or think differently, than you automatically hate him/her/them/(insert other here). And that is the typical hypocritical stance coming from those pushing inclusion and demanding open-mindedness and acceptance of people with different ideas.
Also, presenting as fact, without showing any evidence, that a “ gender neutral product does not affect any binary person” is dishonest, and you know what, if designers are focused on pushing ideology instead of actually game design, then that really hurts the game, because, you know, the purpose of a game is to be a game, not a vehicle to push agendas.
Having said all that, I don’t hate EstravenEternal or anyone, and no one should be harassed because of gender, but just because you feel harassed that doesn’t always mean you are being harassed.
Warned for trolling.
Well, the entire political thing with Hasbro Corp. And their gender equality directives is a different subject. That isn't a WoTC problem as much as an entire movement sweeping through the toy industry and entertainment industry as a whole for the last three years at least.

Yes, Rudy is toxic because of his diatribes against his perceived "SJW" leanings within Wizards. The game is not suffering because of Wizards attempting to be as inclusive as possible. This is a part of Wizards' attempt to expand the game to as many individuals as possible. And I would be shocked if those within the organization responsible for making those strategic decisions are the same as those making decisions about gameplay and "power level" in Standard sets.
In other words, the state of Magic and Standard in particular has nothing to do with Wizards' inclusiveness attempts. Rudy's diatribes are instead a reflection of his own bigotry that he's attempting to pass off as a legitimate complaint with Magic's gameplay.
What gender equality directives? The ones that put female characters only in all leading roles in MTG stories?
What kind of BS "equality" is that?
I'm on my phone, but I can pm you the historic stuff later. Suffice to say I'm not getting involved in any debates with this. The female lead thing has been ongoing since female leads have been popular. That's actually another entirely different subject!

magic isn't an investment, it's a game. opening packs isn't a prospect, it's a gamble. wotc simply makes magic cards, they don't actually owe you anything more than that.
So you wouldn't be adverse to me packing up some commons crap uncommons and bulk rares, sticking them into a pack and selling them to you for 10 bucks a pop? How many of these boosters would you like? You will get variety and they will be playable and in NM condition. How many would you like to buy from me? If money is no issue right?

To be completely fair, I got reprimanded for penalizing a female who offered to expose her breasts to an underage boy in exchange for a win. I was told I wasn’t being “inclusive enough” and that I was “chauvinist” for asking that she remain clothed while in a public place and not expose a child to something that his parents would get angry about. I wanted to disqualify her, and ask her to leave. I warned her. She complained to Wizards. I got a reprimand. The store owner asked her to leave and never come back as a result. Wizards DOES have feminist and SJW leanings, and that isn’t to say they are necessarily interested in equality. If you want to push white, straight males away, that isn’t inclusion, that is preferentialism. I strive for a professional, inclusive environment for the events I run, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to drive away anyone that doesn’t fall into one or more of their preferred categories.
Recently he uploaded a video criticizing the She or He change to They as unnecessary, while claiming that this kind of focus on those details is not what the game needs but a good gaming experiences.
It's worth mentioning that several modern English language writing style guides advocate against "he or she" phrasing, and the singular "they" has been an acceptable part of English since the 1300s.
I probably have a 0% chance on my pre-order as well. That was my point; I might just as well have bought a boardgame instead; Just as much return on investment. Thanks for proving my point.
[...]
I didn't want a Jace. I wanted a decent return on my investment.
[...]
I'm not an investor
your first statement is patently untrue. you can take all of the cards you get from your A25 box and resell them to recoup a percentage of what you paid. if you buy settlers of catan (which is a great boardgame) there is no way you can be sure to resell it. in order to resell a boardgame you need to list it on craigslist or ebay or have a garage sale...and there is no guarantee you will have a buyer. with magic cards there are established stores and online retailers which will 100% buy any cards you don't want. that means that no matter what cards you get a fraction of the cost is certain to be recoupable. you are upset because you think that the percentage you will be able to recoup isn't as high as you would like, which again, means that you are viewing this as an investment. in your post you say that you aren't an investor but then repeatedly talk about the cards as an investment. at this point i'm hardly arguing with you, i'm just pointing out the words you are saying. if you want magic cards you should buy them. if you want an investment you should buy real estate, or hire a money manager to set up an ira/cd/portfolio for you.
also you mention the cards being easily mapped, which was almost certainly a hoax or hasty assumption based on subsequent reports.
So you wouldn't be adverse to me packing up some commons crap uncommons and bulk rares, sticking them into a pack and selling them to you for 10 bucks a pop? How many of these boosters would you like? You will get variety and they will be playable and in NM condition. How many would you like to buy from me? If money is no issue right?
if the magic cards contained within the pack are worth almost 10 dollars, sure, i will buy a pack of magic cards for 10 dollars. i like to draft. i will buy three packs and draft with them. afterwards i can resell the cards i got for ~75% of the cost. i might have even pulled a card i will keep. will i have made back my money 100% or made a profit? probably not...but when i buy an xbox game i don't make a profit either. when i don't want the xbox game anymore i can resell it for basically nothing. the depreciation that most gaming products have is pretty steep compared to magic cards.
to be clear, i'm not just talking about hypotheticals. i am actually going to draft this set. the value is close to msrp which is great compared to most standard sets which i also draft. additionally the set has some expensive cards which i legitimately want and if i open one in a draft that is a nice bonus. if you think the msrp is a disaster i would like to again suggest that you refer to the mtggoldfish evaluation.
lastly referring to the cards in A25 as crap commons/uncommons is pretty narrow minded. many of the cards are great in edh, pauper, and limited. there are even a few good legacy cards. and a lot of the cards were powerhouses in the standard environments they were legal in, which plays into the anniversary theme.
I don't think that making it personal helps the discussion in any way.
This is not about a gay agenda or whatsoever, its the natural paradigm shift that's occurring in all the gaming industry. No one wants to be the game that wasn't open to women or lgbtq people, or that overlooked harassment cases. To affirm that the game design is crumbling because of this small changes towards equal representation, is mean, biased and not true. Wizards has a great diversity of people working, from conservatives to left liberals (Aron Forsynthe and Ethan Fleischer are an example of this opposites)so to claim the company is pandering because its comprised of ideological biased people is also unfair. This decisions promotes the well-being of a very large part of the mtg community. LGTBTQ people are very commons in magic, my lgs has like 20% of gay players. My commander play group is composed of 50% gay players. This changes make inclusion easier while they don't affect in any way the rest of the player base, on the contrary it reflects the real life reality. To say this is ideology is unfair, is just equal treatment. But to say the reason design is bad nowadays (which in my opinion isn't true for all the latest sets)is because of this small changes is petty.
Like many of his previous claims he has no evidence to support it, more than an anecdotal video. Likewise his claims that the mtg lost 8 million players, that sales are going down, that the company is going to be sold, etc, lack any trust worthy source. In the end we are just spreading false rumors that only benefit this content producer at the cost of the success of the consumer confidence.
Another thread burning over this dumpster level topic? Its simple. 'They' harm's only those who choose to take offense to it. To imply it has any impact on Cost, on Product Quality (Cardboard) or Design, is tin foil hat level idiocy.
I don't think the boxes are mappable I think that WoTC is doing a different method for distributing cards. If they want less volatility, they can change the spread of cards in the boxes to make fewer blow out boxes. It kills God box phenomena, but it hypothetically leads to less feel bad moments. I just don't think they have enough good mythic and rares in this set.
There may be some truth to this. I watched my shop open three cases of MM17, and every box seemed to follow the same pattern - either 3+ fetchlands, or at least two of Goyf/Lily/Snapcaster. Some boxes would have either damnation or goblin guide (but never both) and 1 fetch + 1 money mythic. The box I bought had 4 fetches and a goblin guide. It was pretty well assumed at our store that the map was set up intentionally to have fetches on one end, the mone mythics on the other, and damnation/GG one the sides so no box was a complete dud. Granted 13 boxes is a small sample, but most people seemed to have similar experiences when asked.
Given who the source is and the complete lack of corroboration, I'm going to assume that this is Rudy being Rudy.

Whoa whoa whoa. Earlier you said and I quote, "magic isn't an investment, it's a game. opening packs isn't a prospect, it's a gamble." If its not an investment, why should you care if you get 10 dollars value out of a pack? You have just contradicted yourself. Secondly, I quote, "wotc simply makes magic cards, they don't actually owe you anything more than that." Again, I would just be repackaging cards that Wizards made, why would they or myself "owe" you anything more than that. My friend you have proved my point and disproven yours. I'm not saying that to be mean or troll you. The point is we as a consumer should have a certain expectation of value out of every pack. We can debate what that value amount is, but if you state you don't care about value then say you wouldn't buy from me without that value, that is hypocritical, plain and simple.
So I'm going to ask you again, if value doesn't mean anything to you, how many repacks would you like to buy from me of Masters 25? Its okay to change your mind and its okay to admit a mistake. I'll start, I've probably made a mistake using a little too aggressive line of questioning/reasoning with you. I tend to get too testy at times. I'll let you think it over.

Congratulations you all earned the jump to conclusions reward it's not unrandom boxes all around
I knew you were all not being smart on realizing these were only the first two boxes
But this is still some unrandomness in these the foils are on the same boat too from the third video but overall it's not unrandom it's only plausiable you need like 20-30 boxes and see how many are the same to prove the unrandom theory right.
But again you all say the reprints are bad all because of that stupid 9.99 price tag on one pack just stick with singles it's better to get cards that way anyway

To play Devil's Advocate, it appears Rudy took 2 random boxes, not 2 boxes from the same case as I believe he did in the first video. (I could be mistaken.) To make this more "scientific" it would require that several cases be opened to see if how the distribution plays out. At this point we won't know until actual end buyers are buying cases and confirming what happens. But it DID happen. Whether it is the normal or exception to the rule I guess we will have to wait and see starting tomorrow.
I'll say this, I don't trust Wizards packaging/randomization process at this point. Whether or not I buy more or less product I guess we will see what I do. I won't be buying Massturds 25 right now and won't in the future unless it falls under a certain price point and I see that this collation glitch is just that a small sample. I'll let others take the risk at this time.

true but out of every single youtube video so far how many of them had the exact same rares/mythics ina box
But your absolutely correct plus I did say the myth is still looking good though

No, I never said anything of that sort. I'm one of the people who patron him since he does good content, just that these box openings are more like filler for when there's nothing else going on. The thing I can't stand is MTG Salvation turning into something that reminds me of Desolator Magic. The only complaint I have against him right now is the horrible title to the video he posted because it probably should have been something more like "Masters 25 Box opening, and we got problems!", not "Masters 25 Box Opening, looks like wizards forgot to sort the boxes!" That was a mistake on his part because that is what got people going on this whole thread and a few others.
There is something odd about the randomization of the boxes, but after watching several openings now and doing some counting on my own I did see some patterns that are suggesting they may have changed the spread of the cards when doing the packing. The only issue is that I got no clue which boxes came from which distributors or what their placements were in the cases since I'm not the one opening the boxes. What I can tell you is that these are boxes from hades itself. There's a few people winning the lotto, but holy smokes when this goes bad, it goes bad hardcore. We're talking boxes where you can get two mythics and one is a Armageddon with another being Tree of Redemption levels of bad. It's also possible to get all the wrong uncommons as well. This is a set you stay away from and if it wasn't too late for me to cancel my last box on pre-order I'd have done it after the last two videos I watched.
What has made me happy tonight, though, is my first Isamaru, Hound of Konda arrived safely in the mail. My first piece of cardboard memorabilia of my late pet Shiba Inu named Tiger. Put that off way too long. That's the real crime of this masters set: Wizards can't even do the very thing that people want them to do and print the cards that matter to them. If a company can't do that, then they might as well go out of business.

to be clear, i'm not just talking about hypotheticals. i am actually going to draft this set. the value is close to msrp which is great compared to most standard sets which i also draft. additionally the set has some expensive cards which i legitimately want and if i open one in a draft that is a nice bonus. if you think the msrp is a disaster i would like to again suggest that you refer to the mtggoldfish evaluation.
lastly referring to the cards in A25 as crap commons/uncommons is pretty narrow minded. many of the cards are great in edh, pauper, and limited. there are even a few good legacy cards. and a lot of the cards were powerhouses in the standard environments they were legal in, which plays into the anniversary theme.

Not sure why I'm bothering asking since I think the answer is yes, because we are nows in a society with trust issues.
He didn't say that the boxes indicated a sort issue in his last video. He said that if it kept up as he opened boxes there could be a problem. That is a fair assessment. Other people did the conclusion jumping.

Didnt you cancel after that video? Or claim you would?

I thinking plausible so the right zone for this.
